the 1970s is the best decade of filmmaking in my opinion because its post-hays code so there's more creative freedom, but before all the major movies were big family action franchises and also there was the technology and budgets available to do interesting special effects but it was before everything was cgi. everyone was method acting. the soundtracks were phenomenal. the editing gave the stories space to breathe. everything was slightly arthouse-y, even blockbusters like jaws and star wars. all the actors look unique, imperfect, and slightly sweaty. it was all gritty, realistic, political, and slightly homoerotic. new hollywood come back america needs you
