People straight up do not realize that part of the reason manufacturing is not returning to the United States in massive waves is because we have things like “OSHA” and “environmental laws” and “minimum wages.”

It’s not even just about fair wages. It’s literally about the fact that you can’t dump industrial waste in a river here anymore.

Our cheap goods are so cheap because South American and Asians environments are being destroyed so you can buy a $40 pair of shoes every 3 months.

Cutting granite countertops has lead to a rapid increase in silicosis in the lungs out in California. All the working men and women in my family have died from pulmonary fibrosis. They were carpet layers, Post office workers, floor tilers. Staying safe in manufacturing jobs is annoying but also very, very expensive. Real manufacturing factories belch smoke and dust and grime that causes asthma and birth defects in surrounding communities. Everyone wants their manufacturing jobs back until they realize their kids are living directly under the Asthma Plant.

There will come a time when the workers in these countries rise up and demand better and things will start to even out, but if you want to honestly “do your part,” you gotta stop buying cheap shit for no reason.

Not every event needs to be celebrate with a baseball cap or a coozie or a t shirt or a keychain. Not every wall in the house has to have a picture or a cute phrase on it. The knickknacks are killing people.

I need one of those trope-y “watching protagonist’s memories” stories with Dick Grayson but the twist is that the memories aren’t like uniquely traumatic or anything. Most of them actually include the other people watching. But in Dick’s memories, there are just random ass hallucinations everywhere.

Like a memory of Dick casually eating dinner at the manor and talking Tim’s head off but Jason’s bloody mangled corpse is hovering beside an empty chair, and Dick does not appear fazed by it AT ALL. And Tim’s like “wait I remember this but that wasn’t there????”

Or like Dick is just holding a standard team meeting but you can vaguely see the outline of Batman’s hand on his shoulder and the whisper of “failure failure failure you are going to get them killed failure” and the Titans are like “wtf is Batman doing here?”

Idk if they’d realize immediately that Dick is constantly hallucinating random shit or if it would take them some time, but eventually they ask him about it and he’s shocked.

“You mean that doesn’t happen to you when you guys are stressed?”

Bonus points if he’s incredibly flippant about how he deals with them too. Like “no guys it’s chill. They don’t have shadows, see? You also can’t touch them either.” And suddenly minor impulses like Dick’s tendency to constantly check the ground every few seconds or his touchiness with other people make a lot more sense.

Since the holiday toy drive post is circulating again, I figured this would also be helpful! Food insecurity is such a massive problem in America, in general, and if you have the means to help feed others, I think you should take that opportunity. Here are some other tips:

1. If you’re planning on donating items from your own pantry, please check the expiration dates on the packaging. Think of your donations as gifts to bestow, not castoffs to be rid of. It’s awful to think of people feeling like they got scraps someone else just didn’t want. Everyone deserves dignity with their meals.

2. If you’d rather give money to a food bank, that’s also great since they buy food in bulk and know what items are most wanted/needed!

3. Not everyone has access to appliances like stoves or microwaves or hot plates so if you can donate items that don’t need to be heated up, that would also be greatly appreciated!
