And would you look at that, I'm still just as obsessed with the same two idiots. Like seriously, I'm probably never getting over Billy Hargrove and Steve Harrington. I write fanfic about them here

The thing is, I have nothing against socialism or communism as a political ideology; trust me, I'm as anti-capitalist as they come. The leftism is really not the problem here.
The problem is when in their leftism, people – Americans, really, and western Europeans – use the ussr as this sort of goal, this complete antithesis to the modern capitalist society, this almost-utopian place to live. They use hammer and sickle symbol, the ussr anthem; sometimes, as a joke, sometimes, not so much.
Not only that clearly shows that they know absolutely nothing about the ussr – it's also spreading russian propaganda, whether it's on purpose or not, which is especially insidious now, when russia is literally committing a genocide.
The ussr wasn't a socialist utopia where everyone is equal. It was a totalitarian dictatorship, responsible for colonisation and genocide of multiple people and cultures. Just like the russian Empire before it. Just like modern russia continues to do now.
For many Eastern European and Central Asian people, hammer and sickle is not just a symbol of a political ideology. It's the symbol, under which people were starved to death, imprisoned or executed for daring to write in their own language; in which cultures were erased, people – forcefully assimilated, stripped of their own national identity.
It's the propaganda of being "the same people, the same nation" that russians love to use; that westerners love to believe, for the sole reason of the oppressed daring to look similar to the oppressor; for the sole reason of Americans being unable to look past their own history and realize oppression comes in many shapes and forms.
By using the ussr symbols in your political movement, you're denying the atrocities commited under that symbol and spreading russian propaganda, whether it's on purpose or not.
It's not "progressive" to wave around a hate symbol.
Do your research.

“Who can prevent all this from happening? The people. Public figures, journalists, musicians, actors, athletes, scientists, doctors, bloggers, stand-ups, Tiktokers, and more. Ordinary people. Ordinary, simple people. Men, women, old, young, fathers, and most importantly - mothers. I know that my speech will not be aired on Russian television. But the citizens of Russia have to see it. They need to know the truth.”

thought i’d share another thing i made here :’)

i started working on this thing back in january, as russian troops were gathering around our borders, and i got around to finishing it a couple months later, after they retreated from kyiv and my lucky family and i were able to get back home.
for half of the process i was asking myself, “is making this even worth it if it’s going to be bombed to ashes in a couple of weeks?” (the answer was yes); for the other half, i was asking myself how and why do you even make a house now that there are dead and gutted houses all around (the answer was “well, what else is there to do anyway”).
was aiming for the “small ukrainian granny’s apartment” vibe with soviet era “ugly 70s brown” color furniture and a bit of a witchy/magical realism touch :’) details + a bit of ukrainian folk trivia below!

Iceland has just finished the largest 4 day week trial ever conducted, and analysts agree it was a resounding success. Thousands of workers had their working week reduced from 5 days to 4 with no cut to pay. There was no change to overall productivity but significant improvement reported to worker well-being and job satisfaction.
Other, smaller scale studies have yielded similar results everywhere they have been performed. All the while, brutally unequal capitalist countries like the U.K. and the USA continue to maintain or increase unreasonably long working hours, squeeze out holidays and restrict worker’s free time. No one can sensibly argue that our culture of long hours and little free time in any way serves the public good.

If you care about our gay male community please read.
You probably have seen this flag around if you're active in online queer spaces.
I've seen many people, especially gen z on Tik Tok/Instagram call it a "furry pride flag" or even worse, a "beastiality/zoophilia flag"
Please, STOP.
This is the BEAR BROTHERHOOD FLAG.
This flag was created in 1992. It's older than me, and older than most of you on this app. It represents bears, an identity that belongs to gay men and their community, just like butch and femme belong to lesbians. However gay men identifiers usually describe a body type more than a way of presenting.
Bear describes a gay male who is usually chubby with a strong build and very hairy.
It has nothing to do with being attracted to animals.

Those are the two otter flags.
Otter is also a gay male term that describes a body type.
It has also nothing to do with being attracted to animals.
Please learn your history.

yall........yall pls look at this post and then imagine post s3 billy.
he's in therapy, owens assigned him a Very Nice™ shrink that he doesn't really vibe with but he goes to sessions anyways because it keeps max from nagging him. the first several months just feel like going through the motions. he wants to talk about it but he can't quite let go enough to be helped.
and when he comes in for a session and his therapist proudly presents him with a little cloth doll with blond stringy hair, he thinks this might be the dumbest tactic they've ever tried.
he really wants to hate it. wants to toss the thing in the trunk of his car (harrington paid to have it restored, billy's not sure why, but he wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. he cried himself to sleep the night he got his keys back but for the first time in a while it wasn't out of heartbreak) and forget it even exists.
but he doesn't. something about the roughly stitched patches on its chest has him handling it with care. fearing for its well-being. and he feels stupid for it, would vehemently deny it if asked outright, but it starts to work.
one night he wakes up from a nightmare and his breathing exercises don't help, don't stop the gnawing feeling of dread and claws scratching his spine, his heart pounding a bruising rhythm against his ribcage. he reaches blindly for his bedside table, fingers brushing cloth, and...without thinking too hard about any of it he hugs the doll tight to his chest. falls asleep curled around it protectively.
the only person he ever tells any of this to is steve. loose-limbed from one brownie too many (he's not allowed to smoke anymore and he's still figuring out edibles) slumped against steve's shoulder while steve cards careful fingers through his hair. he expects steve to laugh, but he doesn't. he just nods. 'cause he understands. understands feeling protective of billy. being comforted by his presence. wanting to care for him. keep him safe and happy and...
billy cries when steve tells him that. so matter-of-fact, like he didn't just turn billy's whole world inside-out in the best way possible.
he keeps the doll. he doesn't need it so much when he has someone else to hold him at night, but sometimes he needs a reminder. that he's allowed to be kind to himself.
