this blog now officially pronounces "gif" in the way you personally don't like.

my career is over
my biggest fear is accidentally reblogging a gif that just has a really long end frame instead of actually not stopping. imagine the controversy

after further analysis i have found that this gif does not in fact stop.
the final frame lingers for 99 seconds and after that time this gif will in fact loop.
as a non-looping gif gimmick blog i have committed an unforgivable blunder in reblogging this without a truly non-looping version attached. to somewhat rectify, here's what should have been posted to begin with:
i don't expect forgiveness. i will live with this mistake for the rest of my life and surely burn in hell for it. soggy.

i was wondering how you make gifs stop?
anyways sun exploding
in the simplest cases i just do this:
-i for the input gif, -vodec copy to stop it reencoding the whole thing, then -loop -1, where the real magic happens.
I could also use GIMP, the gif export window has options for number of loops, and it's most convenient for me if i want to trim some frames at the end for a better finishing point. I assume other image editors can do the same thing but I haven't checked.
if i'm converting the gif from a video it gets a bit more involved with ffmpeg, using some kind of sorcery with palettes and dither patterns to get the gif as good looking as possible while keeping it as small as possible.
