Cyclists please ring your bell before passing pedestrians on shared footpaths I beg of you. If you don’t have a bell you really need to get one. This is goes for any pedestrian but especially if you’re passing someone who is disabled.
I use a wheelchair and so many cyclists either pass me silently or try to announce their presence by yelling at the last minute and its not just impolite, it’s potentially dangerous.
Without a bike bell I do not know you are coming. I cannot hear you coming over the noise of my wheelchair (which is almost identical to a bike noise. I don’t know you’re there at all until you’re already passing me. Even if I’m at the side of the path already, I need to know you are there so I don’t move into your path last minute (for example to avoid a tree root or dog poo).
Just yelling isn’t enough for me to know you’re a cyclist and act accordingly, even if you yell “cyclist” or something similar. For me, my headrest muffles sounds coming from behind me or to the side so I will not be able to figure out if you’re even talking to me let alone what you’ve said in time to move out the way safely. If I hear a bike bell I know immediately to move to one side of the path to let you past.
Best practice as far as I am concerned is to sound your bell with plenty of warning allowing me to move to the side of the path if I can. And, if you are able to, as you’re getting up to overtaking state loudly and clearly which side you’re passing on.

too many stories about turning yourself into a monster as a metaphor for pretending to be something you aren't and losing yourself in the process. not enough stories about turning yourself into a monster as a metaphor for choosing to openly embrace yourself even if it's strange to other people

i'm still thinking about that post i reblogged earlier about art and wanting attention/connection and i really do think, personally, that having three friends who genuinely love your art and will tell you details they like is more meaningful and desirable than 100,000 followers who interact silently. if im confident in my art now, it's because i was lucky enough to have small groups of friends who encouraged me and helped me get there when i was mega-demoralized in my art
