WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER WHEN YOU ARE IN A BAD MOOD?
Yapping, clapping, buying, sighing, and of course, flying.

Just Got Off The Phone With Mom
When asked, "what are you going to blog about," I had no answer. I still don't because it will evolve. As I sat drinking my tea this morning I found it difficult to begin. Pop, flash, just got off the phone with mom.聽
My mom just turned 93. She has Alzheimer's/Dementia which started about 6 years ago. What a heart break. 聽 聽
聽My mom and I always participated in rituals dating back to my childhood where I grew up in Brooklyn.聽聽
On many a Saturday we would take the bus downtown to shop, have lunch and shop some more. Life was good, we had fun and "Chock Full O Nuts" was awesome! 聽On the bus ride home we would discuss "the plan." What was "the plan?" Well, my grandmother lived with us and let's just say that she was "thrifty." If she knew how much each item cost, she would聽not be pleased. Thus, a ritual began. "OK, the yellow blouse was not $20, it was, let's see, make it $15. The coat was not $45, we'll say it was $22." And so on and so on until we finished the list of our Saturdays' bargains. No harm, no foul, we told white lies when we got home and all was well. 聽A聽ritual. Sometimes deliberately concocted, sometimes not. There is much comfort in rituals, it's like returning home and through a lifetime, many were infused into our relationship.
Tick-Tock time passes, relationships transform and you can find yourself angry that your mom isn't what she聽used to be. The woman you were so proud of because she worked on Wall Street, or because she made cross word puzzles that rivaled those found in the Sunday "Times." That woman聽is聽no where to be found. If you are both lucky and smart you come to terms with the situation and the anger dissipates and acceptance begins.聽
My mom is still very much aware of who we are and for this I am blessed. With this horrible disease of the mind, she and I are still at it ...聽rituals.
She spends most of her day watching television, being well cared for and if you ask her how she is, she'll most assuredly answer, "I feel fine." She still shines, only in a different way.
Every day I call her at least twice.I get to hear her. So at least twice a day, I am blessed and twice a day, we have our ritual.聽Just got off the phone with mom.

SO GLAD YOU STOPPED BY ...
What a hoot, I have no idea where I'm headed, but that's what adventures are made of. The "Blog-osphere" is my next challenge and I'm so damn glad you stopped by.
