I think this is a really important part of the story, and I hope I emphasized it well.

A key part of what makes this interesting is the drive to do this is coming from inside one particular person. Their thought process might make sense, or it might be completely alien. They might be trying to genuinely refine an idea of theirs, or they might have done a complete 180 since publication. They might have had a religious conversion! The beliefs of others can be wild and unpredictable. Sometimes they can be understood, sometimes they can't. Sometimes you can understand them and think they're wrong.

But what should that mean? What's the best way to express that, but also what impact should it have on others?

Does it matter if it only makes sense to them? Is there a structure in place to manage whims to try to prevent them from harming others, or do we maximize one person's impact for the sake of artistic authorship regardless of consequence? In this case, the latter happened, but is that good?
