          checking isn’t in nico’s repertoire ( that’s what the players in front of him are for, after all ), but he does liken himself to a wall some days so perhaps it’s not surprising she ends up on the ground. “sor—“ he begins to say automatically, before his brain catches up with his eyes, the apology dying in his throat. nico decidedly does not laugh or look the least bit amused. instead there’s a sort of drawn out concentration on his face, the type he usually reserved for a must save in the shoot out. there’re still two sloane’s living in his head: the one who’d made chick so HAPPY and the one who’d broken his heart ; most days, he’s still trying to reconcile them ( most days, the latter eclipses whatever memory there was, the wound of that aftermath too all-consuming to allow for anything else ). he’d LIKED sloane, though ; that’s the thing. she seemed to make chick happy and if chick was happy then so was nico. maybe that’s what makes this that much HARDER. “not really——-” he says, indifferent, but he still grips her hand and hauls her up one-armed. fingers loosen the first moment they can, as if her skin BURNS him. “better keep your head up.”

                    ❛  oop  !  be  careful  nico  ,  almost  an  apology.  ❜     she resists the undeniable urge she feels to, for lack of a better term, throw a tantrum. the way nico has treated her since she left chick has been acrid, to say the least, and whilst sloane is well-known for cursing the mother of anyone who so much as disagrees with her, she toes a hard line between wanting to make a scene with the male, and understanding his convictions. she dusts herself off after he helps her up, makes note of the rapid way in which his whole arm retreats, successfully swallows down the lump in her throat but is left with a dull ache,     ❛  that’s  some  solid  advice  ,  give  that  to  everyone  who  falls  at  your  feet  ?  ❜     maybe she’s trying to be lighthearted, trying to convince herself that maybe one day the three of them could salvage what she’d destroyed, but wasn’t that part of her forever in conflict with the part of her that wanted nothing to do with the pair of them?

Finn wore a look of pure concentration. It was if he was solving some serious maths equation but really, he was trying to figure out if they could get away with it. They had done it a few times in the past but had they spaced it out long enough? Did they look less distinguishable than when they did it a couple of weeks ago? Leaning forward, Finn squinted at his friend from across the table. It made him feel ( and hopefully, look? ) determined. “Do you think if I proposed to you for a third time at Subway, they’d figure out we’re not married and not together together? I just really want a panini.”

Deep down, Finn was pleased at how successful they had been in the past when it came to scoring food - at this stage in his life, one of his favourite words was “free”. But on the other hand, he was frustrated…why did he have to be conflicted? A good person wouldn’t lie but he didn’t think he was that good. At least that’s how he tried to reason it. He just felt bad he had dragged Sloane into his antics. And now, the reality of his suggestion was hitting him fast - in the form of a tummy ache. “Uh oh, the conscience is making me think twice - do you want a sandwich? We can walk back to mine and I’ll make you one. I bought some hummus so we can eat that. It tastes ok but it also kind of tastes like… regret?”

                    she mirrors his actions almost immediately, palms flat on the table as she leans forward, faces centimetres from each other as she speaks.     ❛  i  ,  for  one  ,  am  a  wonderful  actress  !  who  are  subway  to  tell  us  how  many  times  a  man  can  propose  to his  beloved  ,  huh  ?  that’s  discrimination  ...  against  ...  couples  madly  in  love.  ❜     though she visibly winces through her words, it’s easy to spout garbage when things are as easy and breezy as they are with finn. she does admit, she could really go for a panini too, and what sloane janeway wants she all too often gets.

                    ❛  hey,  ❜     she points a finger at him, typically bubbly hues gaining an almost scary steel sheen,     ❛  consciences  ?  in  this  household  ?  even  you  seem  like  you’re  trying  to  talk  yourself  out  of  the  regret  hummus.  ❜     without another word she grabs his hand, stroking it ever-so-lovingly with her other, doe eyes seeming to form out of nowhere as she extends a convincing, bottom-lip pout. it was hard for sloane to feel bad about getting finn into so much sheer nonsense when the ideas were his ninety-six percent of the time, and what ideas they were! it wasn’t rare for her to feel jealousy, wishing she’d been the one to come up with whatever hare-brained, yet harmless, scheme it was the pair were going to try next.

to be totally, completely, entirely honest – when sloane strolls on up, he’s not thinking about her. not exactly. he’s got his mind on bigger, more important things. developing good plays to let his slapshot improve, if he’ll have time to finish some homework before he does anything involving alcohol tonight, whether or not he should duck into office hours with o’calla before the afternoon ends. sure, he’s got a class he’s already late to, but office hours are more important. right? ( no. he knows better than that. ) so imagine his shock, the terror, the ultimate embarrassment at being faced with sloane and having his first thought be that her hair looks nice. it shines in a cool way in the sun. he doesn’t know.

it’s instinct to step aside, which he does, at first, mumbling a ‘ my bad. ’ and then she asks how he is. chick wonders why he thought he’d get out of this easy. ‘ i’m okay, ’ he says, because it’s the truth. and then: ‘ how’ve you been? ’ he cut off contact cold goddamn turkey as soon as sloane more or less dumped his ass in his own bedroom, — so. so. so.

                    oh, i’m peachy! i only thought about you three hundred and nine times, cried perhaps half of them, threw myself into a bender for the other half. wanna’ get married? i can totally come off the pill. kids? two dogs? perhaps if it were anyone else, she would’ve said all of those things and more, found herself at the bottom of a pit labelled ‘ dire embarrassment ’, but maybe there were still remnants of the personality she’d created when she was with him.     ❛  okay’s  good  ,  better  than  total  dogshit  at  least  !  ❜     her poker face is bad, she doesn’t usually have to lie like this so the flash of hurt that crosses her face stays for just a moment too long. he’s good, sloane, time to go. but she has to admit, seeing him again makes her linger for a second too long.

                    ❛  me  ?  ❜     she replies, marginally taken aback by the fact he was asking even as a courtesy,     ❛  i  mean  ,  i’m  vice  president  of  gamma  now  ...  ❜     she raises her hands in the air, shaking them about a little as she pressed her lips together in an awkward smile,     ❛  you  know  ,  whoo  !  ❜     she sort of wishes the ground could swallow her up, or that perhaps chick was meeting nico, who would most certainly end the girl’s suffering swiftly if he saw her conversing with the male.     ❛  so  you  know  ,  if  a  gamma  girl  won’t  leave  you  alone  you  know  who  to  call  ...  unless  it’s  me.  ❜     dry laugh punctuates the sentence. poetic irony.

the blonde’s blue hues grew wide at her friends story. “if i did something like that maybe mine would actually pay attention to me,” she chuckled even though it was true. well maybe. sage’s father really didn’t care unless it went against his image. the short petite girl had never defied him. which made sloane’s stories even more interesting. neither her or her brother had ever done something so delinquent. it kind of gave her a rush being around the other blonde. having daddy issues is what basically brought them together. “oh my goddess, the worst i’ve done is major in nursing. the guy doesn’t care all of my life then all of a sudden just bull shit,” 

                    ❛  you’d  still  be  fucking  surprised  just  how  much  they  can  ignore  ,  baby  girl.  ❜     she puts a hand on the others shoulder, not even in an act of comfort, but more solidarity. shit head parents were eternal and the montgomery’s were unfortunately no exception.     ❛  you  ever  thought  about  a  good  old  fashioned  pregnancy  scare  ?  ❜     joking... kind of. she lets out a wry giggle, more at the idea of poor twin montgomery speechless over the mere prompting sloane had given his sister.     ❛  god  forbid  ,  stop  the  fucking  presses  ,  his  daughter  wants  to  help  people  survive.  what’d  he  want  you  to  do  instead  ?  sell  ...  stocks  ?  what  the  hell  does  your  dad  even  do  ?  ❜

watching the blonde get giddy from the table across from him was enough to make pete himself smile. you see, sloane was one of his closest friends and, well to most people it always seemed like the two were a little more. he couldn’t help that whenever they were together they were always edging the lines of what was and wasn’t appropriate. when she playfully teased him and stated for him to prepare to lose he couldn’t help but chuckle. “hey-hey I only fucked your mom once ok.” he joked when she called him a motherfucker.  he couldn’t help but feel his famous dopey grin spread along his cheeks. seeing a man headed for the table he grabbed a red cup and downed the remaining alcohol that was in the cup. “touchdown!” he yelled when the very clearly wasted gentleman smashed back first into the already barely standing table. moving back he could hear sloane trying to claim an unfair victory and shook his head. “uh oh no, nope, you did not win, that is bullshit.” he said moving over to the girl and without effort picked her up swinging him over his left shoulder grabbing another drink with his other hand.  

                    ❛  yeah  ?  well  my  mom’s  a  whore  so  the  fact  she  didn’t  come  back  for  seconds  ?  size  problems  ,  am  i  right  petey  ?  ❜     a gentle chorus of ‘ ooooooh ’ echoed from around the now demolished table, the blonde finding it oh-so-satisfying every time she got to badmouth her viciously incapable mother in front of a large crowd.     ❛  it’s  not  bullshit  at  all  ,  what  the  fuck  ?!  you  totally  know  we  should’ve –––––––  ❜     and before she could even finish her sentence she was up, scream leaving her glossed lips as she gently hit the back of pete’s back with her palms,     ❛  i  know  i’m  a  hot  piece  of  ass  who  likes  a  man  to  take  charge  but  this  doesn’t  change  the  fact  we  won  !  ❜     in an unceremonious move she moves her face down to pete’s back, opening her mouth and biting through his shirt as hard as she can without drawing blood... or at least, what she hopes is without drawing blood.

lani snorted, slightly hiding her excitement about the news. the shrek movies were arguably her favorite animated films; especially ‘shrek 2′. she watched her roommate’s dramatic scene before reaching for their remote, “okay, first off technically there’s four shrek movies, but go off. & you know you don’t have to tell me twice. your professor on the other hand, probably wouldn’t take well to an e-mail explaining that you got eaten by your bed.” a chuckle slipped through her lips, “— we watchin’ all of ‘em today?” the artist climbed back into her lofted bed and slipped her glasses on.

                    ❛  oh  come  on  !  does  the  fourth  one  even  count  ?  we  all  know  the  best  movies  come  in  trilogies  !  and  you  know  ,  i  think  one  film  involving  ogre  babies  was  enough  for  me.  ❜     she grins, sitting bolt upright in a sudden, shifting stance from her previous ‘ swallowed by the bed ’ story.     ❛  i’ll  tell  him  i’m  busy  getting  rid  of  chlamydia  or  whatever  ,  that  tablet  kills  your  stomach  and  he’ll  not  have  the  balls  to  second  guess  it.  ❜     enthusiastically she nods, a ridiculous shrek movie marathon with the one person she loved doing absolutely nothing with? a much better use of her time than whatever education her international trade lecturer thought she needed.     ❛  obviously  ,  what  kind  of  day  would  it  be  if  we  didn’t  ?  zero  apologies  for  quoting  it  all.  ❜

            𝔁.  HIS   ENTIRE   BODY   IS   SORE   ,   but   duke’s   not   sure   whether   he’s   sore   from   hockey   or   from   wrestling   a   pledge   at   the   kappa   tau   house   .   he   finds   the   blonde   on   a   couch   with   an   open   spot   next   to   her   that’s   calling   his   name   .   rolling   onto   the   seat   from   behind   ,   he   lets   out   a   pained   groan   when   landing   on   a   still   healing   shoulder   ,   then   sitting   up   &   casting   her   a   glance   .   ‘   sloane   ,   i’m   going   to   be   out   of   commission   for   the   next   few   days   ,   ’   he   tells   her   ,   cracking   his   knuckles   &   digging   through   his   pockets   for   a   forbidden   pack   of   cigarettes   .   ‘   i’m   too   sore   ,   so   you’re   tagging   in   when   i   get   into   a   fight   ,   okay   ?   ’

                    ❛  oh  !  you  know  it’s  .  on  .  sight  .  bitch  !  ❜     she sits up, clapping to punctuate each word, enthusiasm shining through as her characteristically devious grin paints her angelic features.     ❛  what  happened  to  you  anyway  ?  you  kinda’  look  like  shit.  ❜     she kisses the air twice in quick succession, not that it does much to offset her tactless words, glancing over him with a snooping look.     ❛  if  it’s  another  vigorous  sex  session  ,  i’m  gonna’  pretend  i  don’t  wanna’  hear  it  ,  ❜     she covers her mouth as if telling a secret, but shout-whispers the words,     ❛  but  i  definitely  do  !  ❜     though sloane won’t admit it, there is a hint of concern somewhere amongst her slew of speech. she’s sure it’s some injury from sports, gross, or something similar, so she disguises her not-so-cool worrying with some nonsensical garbage.
