everyone point and laugh, this guy implicitly believes in an objective morality

I feel like people hear "there is no objective morality" and think "so I can go out and stab a baby and its ok" there are a million reasons why that would not be ok, but none of them are OBJECTIVE. There are very very few areas where we can actually objectively conclude things, and even that shit gets fuzzy because we don't know what we don't know, y'know? It's like perfection, it's an entirely human concept that is impossible to objectively measure!

The meaning of the word 'objective' has kind of been lost through colloquial use. People say it and mean "the vast majority of human beings, past and present, would agree with me when I say: killing babies is bad" but there is no way to actually conclude, objectively, that killing babies is bad. There is no scientific method for discerning whether an act is good or bad, and frankly even if there was, it would be total bullshit. It's like trying to assert that god is real beacuse of 'sacred geometry' or some shit.

people don't want to admit that we are all in a much more uncertain and precarious universe than we think we are! We can only be certain that things are uncertain type shit!

trying to parse tumblr discourse and get anything usable for my worldview is maddening because every single intelligent person is dead focused on responding to the most insane of the people disagreeing with them and for some reason they always assume the entire other side thinks like that person. and then they get so pissed off about it that they start making posts that sound like the insane people on their side (if you don't understand why they're losing their patience), and throughout it all no one even considers explaining or referencing the actual topic that sparked the discussion.
