Luck can be interpreted in a plethora of different ways. Some relate it to karma, others relate it to chance. Luck, fate, chance, and all those fancy terms meant something different for everyone. While Mars favored the idea that one worked for good things rather than waiting for them to happen, she could appreciate a nice nugget of luck.
Wrapped up in her own thoughts and determination, Mars didn't recognize that there was another presence in the area. A presence of pure beauty and talent, at that. Of course, none of that counted if she hadn't witnessed any of it herself. Her focus was solely on that of her Pokemon, fueled by the urge to prove that Purugly could do just as well as any other Pokemon. That, and she wanted to shut the guy from earlier up.
So, upon the arrival of another person in her little training area, Mars straightened up with a small squeak of surprise. Her feline looked up at the appearance of the stranger, a look of curiosity in the cat's expression. As soon as Mars' eyes met the face of the man, her heart skipped a bit. Recognition hit her immediately: Wallace, the coordinator she had so admired earlier. Mars was momentarily stunned, shocked by the turn of evens. So much so that she thought maybe perhaps she had managed to hit her head somehow, or the Hoenn heat was getting to her.
Thankfully, the man spoke and in turn broke the commander out of her trance. As he referred to earlier conflicts, Mars' gaze fell. She had said some rather harsh things, with colorful language choice, but all in the defense of her Pokemon. She felt justified in her words. Mars was worried this man would scold her for her actions, though it quickly proven to be quite the opposite.
She clung to each word that escaped his lips. The way he spoke was simply mystifying, as if he were reciting a poem. Her eyes widened in awe, even her Pokemon seemingly impressed just from sensing it's trainer's emotions. Not only was the man quite the looker, but he knew his way with words. They washed over Mars similar to the ocean that reflected in the male's blue eyes.
Her Purugly purred upon receiving attention. Mars clasped her hands together, fingers intertwining among themselves. Her eyes gleamed as she listened, inspiration rushing through her. She couldn't help it when listening to him speak; each word drew her in further to his speech. Mars followed his gesture to his Milotic in the distance, jaw nearly dropping. She had seen them on TV before due to the champion Cynthia possessing one, but she had yet to see one for her own eyes.
Mars looked down to her own Pokemon with a shy smile. She'd always loved her feline, and even if Purugly wasn't considered a beautiful Pokemon, Mars saw beauty in her. This man's words further backed that up, causing a surge of confidence to wrack through the girl. As his speech came to an end, Mars relaxed her stance, though her eyes still shone with enthusiasm and inspiration.

"You're amazing!" Mars cheered, "That was awesome!" she threw in, honestly not having the words to properly praise him, or let him know how much his words meant to her. She knelt down beside her feline, resting a hand on the cat's back, "I think Mandy is great the way she is." Mars nodded confidently.
She stood, giving the coordinator a large smile. As he bowed, she blinked in a bit of shock, not expecting such an action. He was a performer, that much was obvious.
"I'm Mars, and this is Mandy!" she introduced, after getting over the initial surprise, "From Sinnoh." she added in quickly, though decided to subtract the fact that she was part of Team Galactic. She looked up at him with longing eyes, "D'ya think you could show me some stuff? You're Pokemon are like...really amazing! And I've never even seen some of them before! I-I mean, only if you're not busy! You're like, super famous right?"

Life was full of an abundance of opportunities to create and perform, and there was perhaps no greater canvas so conducive for art than the region he proudly called home. There were a plethora of stages available to showcase him and his partners’ talents, whether it was the frigid, finicky interior of the Sootopolis gym or the enormous, proud Ever Grande stadium situated upon a picturesque, roaring falls, and yet no venue felt as welcoming as the interior of a contest hall.
With such a fact held dear in his heart, it was barely a day following a call to be a judge at one of the preliminary contests that he was out the door and headed to the glittering, golden sands of the Lilycove shore. In his haste, he had secured an official league hiatus with surprising ease, perhaps due to the fact that they had all become quite accustomed to his fleeting attention span and desire to fling himself into new projects. Nonetheless, it was only a few short hours before he had arrived in the mainland, an invigorated smile upon his lips and unmistakable energy in his step as he whole heartedly took in the sights and sounds of one of the region’s most scenic cities.

She was supposed to be spreading the word of Team Galactic. She was supposed to be out recruiting new potential members. She was supposed to be representing Team Galactic in the region of Hoenn. However, there were times when things didn't go as planned. There were times when original plans ceased upon something else coming up.
This was one of those times.
"You look great, Mandy!" she smiled. Earlier that week, while Mars was exploring the area, there was a large screen in the center of one of the plaza's that was streaming a contest. Mars had herd of contests before, living in Sinnoh, but never considered partaking in one herself. Until now, that is.
Completely forgetting her assignment, Mars began training immediately. She did vigorous research in her hotel room, studying up on the different types of contests, the different stages, the judges, and famous coordinators. There were a few cute ones that caught her attention. Namely, Wallace of Sootopolis City. Not only was he a master coordinator, but a Gym Leader, too!
Overall, everything had Mars pumped. And, given the fact that Purugly wasn't native to Hoenn, Mars figured she had a pretty good chance at claiming her first ribbon. So, the very next day, she set out for the contest hall. Picking which type of contest was a tough decision, but she ended up siding with the Beauty competition, with her Purugly, Mandy. She had been given an odd look from the receptionist who signed her up, but she had figured that was simply due to the fact that Purugly was very rare in this region.
She had hung around outside the Contest Hall after signing up, observing some other coordinators and their Pokemon. She mimicked them, grooming over Purugly and even feeding her some Pokeblock. She was honestly enjoying herself, until someone had to go and rain on her parade.
"You think you can win a beauty contest with that? You better hope you have a fair amount of luck, because that'll be the only way you win."
Of course, Mars wasn't going to have any of that. After giving the kid of piece of her mind, Mars left the area outside the contest hall. She wouldn't ever show it, but the words had hurt. But now, Mars was determined to win more than ever. She'd show them.
And that was how she ended up alone, in some random, strange field outside the city. She planned to train over the next few days in secret, then show everyone just how beautiful her little Mandy was. However, with very little experience as to what methods were used to appeal, she wasn't having very much success.

"Alright..." she though out loud, looking own at her Pokemon, "I bet we could fancy up your Shadow Ball. Though, I've got no idea where to start..." she groaned, shoulders slouching. She'd never give up, but things weren't looking too hopeful for the commander.

Mars kept a keen eye on Cyrus as he seemingly pondered her question. All her being willed him to say yes. She decided that she wanted to see him smile at least a little bit today. They were at an amusement park, for Arceus' sake! Besides, the guy didn't smile enough anyway.
"I understand, Master Cyrus! Thank you very much for the opportunity!" she said, though toned down her excitement to show she was serious. Mars didn't want to risk having Cyrus regret his decision. It was hard to contain the pure glee she felt, but she did her absolute best to tone it down. On their way to the entrance, Mars snagged the park's map and information packet.
While the duo waited in line for tickets, Mars flipped through the packet. The dumb, goofy grin that had formed after receiving a 'yes' from Cyrus hadn't yet faded, and only seemed to widen as took in all the possible rides they could venture onto. She occasionally leaned over to Cyrus and pointed something out, trying to keep herself occupied as the waited to get let in.
After a bit of waiting, they finally made it upfront. Mars promptly thanked Cyrus for the tickets, and turned towards the park. Being inside was everything she'd thought it be, and boy did they have some fun ahead. Mars was thrilled when someone asked for their picture, excitedly nodding her head after getting the OK from Cyrus. She slung one arm around his, using her free one to hold up a peace sign. She was probably having a bit too much fun, and they hadn't even gotten to the rides!
"Hmm," Mars pondered Cyrus' question out loud, holding her chin in thought. "Well, just in case either of us get motion sick, we should probably do all the rides first! Then, we'll be extra hungry for food. Oh-! Donphan ears are pretty great! They're super sugary though, so they should definitely wait." she insisted. Mars went even deeper into thought, pondering their options.
"We could do the rides first, then! Get those 'outta the way, then eat! We can decide what to do after that when the time comes, so we don't get stuck thinkin' too much." she finally concluded, nodding her head confidently. The nearest ride, the Brave Bird, looked totally exhilarating. She'd never been on a ride like that, and wondered if Cyrus had. Oh, well. Maybe it would be a first for both of them.
"C'mon! The wait doesn't look too long!" she giggled a bit, out of pure excitement. She turned and headed towards the ride, gesturing for Cyrus to follow along. Like she had predicted, the wait wasn't very long. The park was good at keeping things going quickly, as to make sure no one waited for an extended amount of time.
When the time came to get on, Mars moved to the side to allow Cyrus to pick their seats. She eyed the front, then the back, bouncing on her heels. This would be an experience.

After quite a bit of discussion, Cyrus had finally worked out the sponsorship deal with the park manager, and was about ready to head back to base and get more work done. After they had left the meeting room, however, Mars spoke up about a different plan.
"So, we’re totally going to check out the park, right?”

While Mars loved her job, and she could never come to regret the decision to join Team Galactic, she always dreaded those missions. The boring ones, which required little action on her part. The ones where she'd be stuck in some kind of meeting room, either listening in on some boring lecture, presenting one to some grunts, and sometimes even listening into a deal being made. Whatever the case, whenever Mars received a notice instructing her to attend some sort of lecture or deal, she never looked forward to it.
Until the most recent deal, that is.
Her eyes beamed once they arrived. The park was everything she'd dream it would be: big, screaming people, and a lot of fun. Well, the last part was a mere assumption, but... Oh, whatever. Mars waited ever so patiently while her beloved boss talked deals. She sat, impatiently bouncing her legs subconsciously. There was a single window in the room overlooking the park. Her eyes were practically glued to that little window, excitement bubbling in her chest as she waited for the meeting to finish.
And it did. After what felt like forever, Mars was able to exit the meeting room and suck in a huge breath of fresh air. She waited for Cyrus to dismiss the park manager, and immediately turned to speak with him.
Tumblr media
"So, we're totally going to check out the park, right?" she chimed, maroon orbs filled with hope and excitement. "I mean, it would be such a waste if we didn't! Kind of like a celebration, yea? It's been a while since we've had any kind of break, too!" she insisted, speaking quickly now. It was a bad habit of her's to speak quickly in the midst of excitement. It was pretty hard to contain oneself at such a grand park, after all.
