i've said this a million times but people who think Lusamine was intentionally written to be "irredeemable" in the original SunMoon games can't read

i’ve talked it before but you can hear it too. i still don’t understand this app. anybody else always thinking about how cool it is that gladion’s theme takes the same melody as “run away, fugitives” from pokemon mystery dungeon red/blue rescue team.

i might spoil red/blue rescue team’s plot points a little.

i really enjoy how the journey of the protagonist + their companion kind of parallels that of gladion and silvally. whatever.

both the protagonist of rescue team and gladion are portrayed as being selfless. they both try to help someone in need.

the companion of the red/blue rescue team protagonist needs a friend. they struggle to stand up for themselves. the protagonist chooses to help their new friend by forming a rescue team with them.

with gladion and silvally it’s a little more serious. silvally also desperately needs a friend. it doesn’t know kindness. it was created in an abusive environment. if gladion didn’t save silvally, it wouldn’t be alive.

they both form deep friendships with their companions. theyre always together even through their most difficult journeys. when the world is against them, they have each other. and they have each other because they decided it was worth the sacrifice of being kind.

i like when that happens in stories. it’s realistic. sometimes it’s more difficult to be kind.

both gladion and the protag of red/blue rescue team are painted as villains to and by the people they trust.

for the protagonist, their hometown turns against them because of a false accusation.

for gladion, it’s the aether foundation and his mother. he “betrayed” them. both the protagonist and gladion are villainized, and have to run away and hide as a result. quite literally. both of them would’ve been captured if they had been noticed, so theyre always on the run.

so — seriously such a cool music detail. i just love it so much. it brings me joy

like the protagonist of pmd running into the mountains, gladion and silvally are alone with no one but each other to trust in. run away fugitives plays when the protagonists first flee their village after the false accusation. it’s a very interesting parallel to me. so cool.

he’s really dramatic on purpose in every universe and it’s so, so funny to me. he does not have to be doing all that.

sorry. i know i change routes every 2 seconds when i talk. but this is something i dislike about how pokemon masters writes gladion. pokémon masters doesn’t understand his joke.

the thing that makes gladion really funny is that he DOES do things because they make him look cool. he DOES care about looking cool. like he does what he needs to, to survive… and he also does other stuff because it makes him look mysterious and stylish

he enjoys being really ominous and then leaving without explaining anything. and he would never admit to wanting to be cool in ten thousand years. that’s why it’s so funny. in the games everyone else points it out. and he REFUSES to acknowledge it.

i like this panel where manga gladion can’t play the flute and gets really mad about it. -100 cool guy points (well. he didn’t really have many because he kind of… beat up kiawe. why did he do that. but that’s a different story)

i like the game version of this joke more because instead of thinking he’s cool like in the anime everyone just kind of thinks he’s a weird loser.

anime gladion is actually acknowledged as cool by other people. game gladion just confuses them. anime gladion does things like… save kiawe’s little sister and fist bump his dog. aura. notice how his team also looks cool

i have some problems with anime gladion’s writing sometimes. but also it’s a show for kids, so i give them grace, and i realllly enjoy that they kept the detail that he’s always doing too much for literally no reason. very important part of his character.

they reuse this animation several times where he throws his pokeballs like this? there is no reason for him to be doing all that. stop immediately

guy who keeps his pokemon in all different pokeballs. he has NO reason to be doing that (except for maybe umbreon because she’s in a heal ball, and she was hurt when he found her. whatever. i don’t care).

guy who canonically walks around and hangs out in caves. guy who says he likes ten carat hill because it’s “a good place to avoid people”. then goes and sits on top of the mountain with his various dogs.

guy who was purposefully written to have a strange vocabulary. he’s 13-14 walking around saying stuff like “yet i cannot regret these actions… i apologize most sincerely..”

gladion is also older than the rest of the cast. not by much, since he’s. either 13 or 14 based on timeline. but enough that to 10 year old ash and 11 year old game sun / moon squad that they’re like oh! someone older and more responsible!

good guess but actually he’s going to show up, make his anger issues everyone else’s problem, say “something TERRIBLE is coming… GAHHH!!” and then leave without giving anyone any further context. it’s so awesome

english dub he says “avoid people”.. and while this could be interpreted as him not wanting anyone to see silvally, (he calls his beast silvally :-)) based on him constantly avoiding people at all costs is way funnier and makes more sense to me. he just keeps getting dragged to social functions he doesn’t want to be at.

there’s a post-credits scene in the japanese version of the lycanroc showdown where ash wants to stay and train with gladion and gladion escapes before he can stop him

Rewatching/trying to finish the rest of the Sun & Moon anime(s) and. watching all the extra stuff people say and do when doing Z-Moves. and also how dramatic battles are when the pokemon. actually physically do the moves and respond to them. have me realizing that the Pokemon Anime Universe(tm) would be a great place to be for theatre kids
