Hi! I'm curious, do you use any kind of scoring tool/guide when you're cutting glass? I actually work for a studio that's created a movable scoring guide you might be interested in!
Tumblr media
Hello! Yes! I use this cutter here! It used to be filled with cutting oil but I prefer this little oil well I can use instead. I do have a morton portable glass shop but I never use it since most of my cuts are weird shapes ^_^' Thanks for reaching out! That's so cool you work for a studio and I would love to hear about the cutting system you guys created!

Phew! DONE! This took years to go from idea to completed project. Man how time flies! It didn't come out exactly how I wanted it, but I am still very happy and proud of how it turned out! Anyone seen the new movie? Is it worth seeing? The original movie is still my favorite and is what inspired this piece. Now in my Etsy store if you are interested!

If anyone is interested in how I create my stained glass pieces, I thought I'd do some posts on it!
Part 3.5: Patina time! If I want the solder lines to be black or copper instead of silver, I have to patina it. Patina can be difficult sometimes and there are LOTS of different tips/tricks for a good patina.
For now, this is what I do: After soldering, I give the piece a nice bath in dawn soap and water, scrubbing with a toothbrush. Then I follow it with a magic eraser scrubbing. Pat/fan it SUPER DRY. Then dip a cloth in the patina and rub it to the solder. Wash with water. Dry again. THEN wax. Any extra wax gets removed with a dremel brush that doesn't damage the glass. Ta daaa nice and shiny at the end!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE! Even if you don't celebrate, I hope you have a great end of the year! Here is the smallest glass bit I did for the year! My new year's resolution is to stop making such tiny glass parts. We'll see how long that lasts! 🤣

Thank you to the Tumblr person who noticed my original DDR had an arrow in the wrong spot!! 😂 I have no idea why my mind blanked on that one! Here is the one I did after with the correct arrows. I guess my subconscious noticed as well?? 🤣

YAAAAY!! So glad you like it!! Thank you so much for reaching out and for letting me do this piece for you!! 😁 Glad the kitty got to enjoy as well ahaha! XD
Aaaaaa my comission from @glassicgames just arrived!!!! It's so amazingly gorgeous!!
Tumblr media
Wow it's even more beautiful in person!!! And I'm so super duper excited because it's even bigger than i thought it would be!!!!! I'm super bad at understanding measurements or scales or anything so when i saw the pics and heard the measurements i was picturing something the size of my hand but this is about one and a half hands!!!! Which means it's going to be even easier to see from where I'm going to hang it!!! I think i know where it's going to live permanently but i might take it on a tour of the apartment just to see where the vibes are best!
It's too dark rn for light to come thru it but i just know it's going to look so cool!!!

If anyone is interested in how I create my stained glass pieces, I thought I'd do some posts on it!
Part 4: After soldering, I can also add a patina to make the solder black or copper. I usually leave the solder as silver because I think that is the prettiest! ^_^ Alsoooo patina means another step of super cleaning the piece so I have got to REALLY want that color to do it ahaha XD Either way, after I do/don't do the patina I use some wax and microfiber cloth to get the piece super duper shiny! Hanging chains are then added to complete the piece!
Ta daaa! That is the end of my process! If you made it this far, thank you so much for reading! I hope this helps show how much time and care I put into every piece I make! It's a lot of work but I love every step! 🥰

If anyone is interested in how I create my stained glass pieces, I thought I'd do some posts on it!
Part 3: Foiling complete, time to solder! I start by tacking all the main spots where pieces join to keep the piece together. Then I work on all the lines and getting a rounded solder look everywhere. Most stained glass is made with a solder that contains lead. I prefer to use lead-free solder which is harder to control but it makes me feel better not having to worry about lead in my pieces. Some pieces have a copper border and others don't. At the end I add any loops for hanging or decoration bits.

If anyone is interested in how I create my stained glass pieces, I thought I'd do some posts on it!
Part 2: Once the glass is cut to the shape I need, I clean all the pieces and begin copper foiling! I take the copper foil and begin wrapping it around every glass piece by hand. Once it is stuck to the glass, I use a tool to smooth out the foil as much as possible before soldering. I go over the lines and if something is uneven, I use an exacto knife to remove it.
Here is where you get to see how good of a job you did cutting! If I didn't make the pieces fit properly before foiling, then they end up not fitting in their place, and there's a domino effect as each next piece doesn't fit either!

I just realized I haven't shown my work area yet! Here is where I do all my stained glass! The garage in Arizona heat is pretty brutal so I was limited to night work during the summer. The left table holds all my glass and the right table is where I cut, grind, foil, and solder my pieces. I have so much tiny scrap glass I need to figure out a project for... 🤔
