I arrived early to soak in the ambiance of the sensual Jardin de Pedralbes and to assure I didn’t miss the guest performance. The bluesy-rock element was the perfect appetiser for what was to come. Ludovico and his accompaniments started at 10pm sharp and immediately grabbed the audience’s attention. The darkness of the stage and specific lighting beamed through the swirling fog framing their silhouettes; lowering your eyelids while opening your ears and heart. As the music played you could imagine their body’s interaction with their instruments; they became extensions of one another. The piano, although containing separate keys, Ludovico’s sensuality, precision, and grace lifted the idea of keys altogether and brought you to a place you’ve never been. The cello’s concentrated, deep frequency combined with the more distributed sound of the piano reached every crevasse of your soul. The whole world seemed to be silenced in awe; to me the entire world disappeared around the stage while the vibrations reached deeply within. The procreation of tears flowed down my cheek throughout the entire performance. The synchronisation with nature in the open air theatre even moved the crickets. No doubt an embedded memory of Barcelona to colour all experiences thereafter.
