I hope you all had a lovely Fourth of July weekend. My amazing lady and I wanted to do something to give back to our community the night before, so we brought some food down to Skid Row in LA and served those in need. (We then had amazing BBQ, beer and swimming on the 4th. Because it’s the law.) It’s crazy how much we take for granted in life. Just having food to eat whenever we want it is such a luxury we take for granted. Giving back a little always puts that in perspective. It reminded me of when I was a kid and I would help my mom at the Food Pantry that she created at our temple for the homeless people in the neighborhood. A man one time, so appreciative, asked if he could do any work to pay the good deed back. I was so impressed by that, I never forgot it. I’ve been trying to do more volunteer work lately. Got to serve those in need in Tampa a week ago as well. And spoke with an African American veteran who told me that even while in uniform defending our country he experienced racism at a base in Alabama, where they expected black soldiers to enter from the back. It’s crazy how people can even discriminate against the bravest among us. I’ll never understand some people’s need to feel superior over others. But the best way to combat that is to go out of your way to help equalize the playing field a bit, and to treat everyone as equals. And certainly to let our common humanity dictate how we behave. If you get a chance, try and find a way to give back this weekend or next. Landed in New York and walking through the airport I see a group of people listening to a man talk about how our cell phones are being used to keep us distracted, while the powers that be change what humanity is all about. My father is the best man I know. He is just so pure of heart. So loving and caring. And he lives for his family. Would do anything for us. And does. All the time. Often on a moment’s notice. He is so charming and affable, and gives amazing advice. Three of the biggest decisions of my life he gave me the perfect advice and altered my future in the best way possible. I do not know what I would do without him. I love him so much. The first photo is him in high school pretending to be a reporter for NBC. I ended up working for NBC many times, and I know it made him proud each time. 2. Us at a Clipper game. 3. Bonding with our newest family member, my dog Henry Horse. 4. This past weekend on our one day camping trip celebrating father’s day. 5. At a Dodger game, my favorite ritual in life, and something we have done since I was two and I hope for decades to come. 6-10 at the beach, more @dodgers games, rally caps watching at my parents’ house, when I got to have my dad make a cameo on Idiotest, and my pop and mom together. She is a pretty incredible human herself, but also so lucky to get to spend her life with my dad. I love you papa. You are my hero. We tried hard to qualify for the first debate, but with just 5 weeks since we launched & without a political machine or millions of dollars behind us, we did not reach it. But we are still fighting! Of course! We are a new campaign, can still qualify for the second debate and we have momentum!
