Whimsical Watercolor Wonders
Every time I have a regularly scheduled class, I look forward to the first few minutes of everyone arriving so I can see all the beautiful paintings they’ve worked on for “homework.” And yesterday was no surprise that the Whimsical Watercolor students blew my socks off with their doodles and paintings! Take a look:
Aren’t they just lovely? It never ceases to amaze me how the same project can be translated so differently among students. I love their use of color and their interpretations are stunning! Way to go, ladies!

Watercolor Bar Mitzvah Card
Over the weekend, my son was graciously invited to a classmate’s Bar Mitzvah. Nobody in my family has ever attended one, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect. Luckily, we’ve got a few friends (and a couple of art students) that know the ropes when it comes to such a special event so they walked us through the process. And it was super interesting. I’m actually bummed I didn’t get invited! My kiddo said it was really interesting to listen to the ceremony and watch his classmate read from the torah, reciting difficult passages. And both the luncheon and afterparties were more on the scale of a wedding is what he said. Tons of food, dancing, laughs, desserts.
From the sounds of it once he got home to seeing all the photos taken, it sure did look like a fabulous event!
I ended up painting this kiddo a card because I wanted to make something special for him (even though I never have even met this kid nor his family). And I’m happy with how it turned out, being the first time I’ve ever created one! Come take a look at the process and final result.

Friday Night Creative Art Club
The second meeting of our monthly Friday Night Creative Art Club was, in one word: AWESOME
What a wonderful group of ladies have joined in for our last two meetings. The food, the laughs, the creativity. You just can’t get any better! Our dinner this month was a delicious pizza, followed by cookies and raspberry danish squares as well as a homemade pumpkin bread that was out of this world!
Our evening flew by as we shared items from our personal stashes, such as stickers, fussy cuts, paper scraps, bingo cards and loads more. Each of our ladies either created new junk journals (like from paper bags) or worked in existing ones (yours truly worked in a composition notebook that is now a chock full of color and texture!) It was just a lovely, wonderful, fun and creative Friday night together and I am already planning and looking forward to next month!
Interested in joining us? We’ve got a few dates on the calendar:

MWCC Introduction to Watercolor Class Wrap Up
Thursday nights are so much fun! And we’ve wrapped up our 3 week “Introduction to Watercolors” class for Mount Wachusett Community College last night.
Hosting watercolor classes in my art studio for Mount Wachusett (MWCC) is something I look forward to several times a year. The folks that sign up for this class have all been so enjoyable and lovely, it’s always sad when the time together is over. I get attached to these folks! Every group so far has been fun, supportive and eager to paint watercolors, that’s for sure.
So last night was our last class for session 1 of “Introduction to Watercolors” and we filled our class time painting 6 different landscapes, using all the various lessons and techniques they have learned up until this point.
And the results were, once again, fabulous! Look at the gorgeous-ness:
I hope you enjoyed our time together KL, BH, LK and BG! It was a joy to have you all in my studio and I hope you visit again for more art time!

Acrylic Painted Wood Slices
With Spring being here and the weather getting nicer by the day here in New England, I was inspired to paint using some pretty and bright acrylic paints on these wooden slice ornaments. Fun, quick and easy!
This video tutorial is available over in The Creative Art Village for members to watch and paint their own wood slice ornaments. Such fun! I cannot wait to see what these fabulous art community members create. They are all SOOOO TALENTED and the art that they create is beyond anything I could have imagined! I am constantly amazed by their creativity and their ability to make each project their own and in their own style.
The Creative Art Village will reopen for registration soon! We’d love to have you join us! Monthly art projects and lessons, free digital downloads, happy mail, private Facebook page and lots more!

Introduction to Watercolors Class Recap
Thursday nights are for Introduction to Watercolors for the Mount Wachusett Community College folks and we’re enjoying our time painting in my studio. It’s another great group of folks in this 3 week class!
Last night we focused on use of color, line and texture in our class projects. I think it can be intimidating for people to draw using one continuous line, but this group of learners was up to the challenge and painted some gorgeous pieces. Take a look:
I’m excited for our final class next week where we will paint landscapes and put all these new tools and techniques to use!

Introduction to Watercolor Class
Happy Thursday!
Thursday means Introduction to Watercolors Class night and I wanted to share with you the wonderful work of the art students in last weeks class:
We learned about using household items to create wonderful texture, how to create a color palette and basic doodling using found patterns in the painting. It’s always so fabulous to see all the variations on concept and interpretation when working on this lesson. I love the variations and imagination!
Looking forward to tonight’s class where we focus on single line contours and neurographic pieces.

Friday Night Art Club Mixed Media Flowers
Friday night was our first monthly meeting for our newest art club and it was the BEST! We had such a great time chatting, painting, laughing and snacking! Our new art club members really had a blast getting to know each other and sharing stories as we listened to tunes and painted the night away!
Our first Friday Night Art Club project was a mixed media canvas board featuring a colorful and layered bloom. Each artist worked with layers of paper and paint to create a unique and one of a kind large painting that they were able to take home to continue working on.
If you’re looking for an enjoyable and stress free art making experience, we’d love to meet you! We’ve got a few spaces open in upcoming art clubs:

Watercolor Class Show and Tell
Good morning!
Hope you’re having a lovely, pleasant and stress-free day so far. It’s Wednesday and we’ve only got a couple days left til the weekend (and losing that precious hour of sleep… bummer!)
This past Monday in our weekly Whimsical Watercolor Class, we shared our projects featuring beautiful watercolor matryoshka dolls. The students spent class learning about sketching these cuties and how to break down the elements before starting to add washes of color. Then for homework, each student took their work home to add to it and put on the finishing touches. Voila! Gorgeous results as you can see for yourself! The ladies in this class totally rocked it!
This project is always a fun one to work on because you can really have such fun with decorative elements, textures and glazing techniques. Layering the colors onto the pretty dolls gives each one a unique and lovely look! I’m so impressed by these ladies!
If you’d like to add some of these beauties to your art and don’t have time to paint them, download the printable here!
