Unleashing the Power of Creativity: The Importance of Being Creative
In a world that thrives on innovation and constant change, creativity has become a vital skill that sets individuals apart. It is the driving force behind groundbreaking inventions, artistic masterpieces, and revolutionary ideas. Being creative is not limited to the realm of artists and designers; it extends to all facets of life, shaping how we approach problems, express ourselves, and find new solutions. In this blog post, we will explore the significance of cultivating and nurturing creativity in our personal and professional lives.
Enhancing Problem-Solving Skills:
Creativity is the cornerstone of problem-solving. It enables us to think beyond the obvious, explore unconventional approaches, and find unique solutions. By encouraging creativity, we develop the ability to connect seemingly unrelated concepts, envision multiple perspectives, and generate innovative ideas. This flexibility and adaptability allow us to tackle challenges with a fresh mindset, leading to more effective and efficient problem-solving.
Fostering Personal Growth:
Engaging in creative activities, whether it's painting, writing, or playing a musical instrument, nurtures personal growth. Creativity is an outlet for self-expression, allowing us to explore our thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a profound way. It encourages introspection, self-discovery, and helps build self-confidence. Through creativity, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, enhance our emotional well-being, and cultivate resilience in the face of adversity.
Spurring Innovation and Progress:
Creativity is the driving force behind innovation and progress. It fuels the development of new ideas, products, and services that shape industries and transform societies. By embracing creativity, we challenge the status quo, push boundaries, and unlock new possibilities. Creative thinkers envision a world that is not bound by limitations, and they inspire others to think boldly and explore uncharted territories. It is through the power of creativity that we can drive social, technological, and cultural advancements.
Enhancing Communication and Collaboration:
Creativity enhances communication and collaboration by promoting open-mindedness and fostering empathy. When we think creatively, we are better able to understand and appreciate diverse perspectives, allowing us to connect with others on a deeper level. It encourages active listening, effective expression, and the ability to articulate complex ideas in a compelling manner. In team settings, creativity encourages collaboration and the integration of different viewpoints, leading to more innovative and successful outcomes.
Cultivating Adaptability and Resilience:
In a rapidly changing world, adaptability and resilience are crucial skills. Creativity fosters these qualities by encouraging us to embrace uncertainty, adapt to new situations, and find solutions in unconventional ways. When faced with challenges, creative individuals are more likely to find alternative paths, adapt to new circumstances, and bounce back from setbacks. Creativity empowers us to see opportunities where others see obstacles, helping us navigate through change with agility and optimism.
In a world that demands constant innovation, being creative is more important than ever. It enhances problem-solving skills, fosters personal growth, spurs innovation and progress, enhances communication and collaboration, and cultivates adaptability and resilience. By valuing and nurturing creativity in our lives, we tap into our full potential and make meaningful contributions to the world around us. So, let us embrace our creative instincts, challenge conventional thinking, and unleash the power of creativity to shape a brighter future.

Weekly Market Recap Jul 08, 2018
Currently the action for short term traders is choppy and tricky.  Those with a long term view still are in cruise control as they have been for years.   The holiday shortened week saw most of the action Monday as a “gap down” was met with buying,  a nice rally Thursday, and then the employment data Friday gave the market something to think about other than TRADE WARS!!(tm) [which ironically began in earnest that day].  As a note, the NYSE McClellan Oscillator went positive late in the week.
Friday the Trump administration officially imposed tariffs on $34 billion of Chinese imports at midnight Eastern Time, and Beijing implemented tariffs on the same value in U.S. goods, as promised.
In other “fun” Axios reported early in the week that the Trump administration had crafted a draft bill that would declare America’s abandonment of World Trade Organization rules. This would essentially give Trump a license to raise tariffs at will, without congressional consent and largely outside of the international rules governed by the WTO.
Fed policy makers saw negative risks from U.S. trade policy, saying it “had intensified,” indicating that a tit-for-tat tariff clash could have negative effects on business sentiment and investment spending, according to the minutes of the June 12-13 Federal Open Market Committee released Thursday.
For the week the S&P 500 gained 1.5% and the NASDAQ 2.4%.
On Monday, it was reported the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index rose to 60.2 in June from 58.7 – that’s a very strong reading (anything over 50 signals expansion and 60+ is rare).  A read on construction spending rose 0.4% in May.  Thursday, the ISM nonmanufacturing index forJune came in at 59.1 from the previous month’s reading of 58.6; again very strong.
“The increase in the ISM manufacturing index in June is a clear sign that, for now at least, the strength of the domestic economy is more than offsetting any increased uncertainty on trade policy. However, with the dollar appreciating by 6% since April, global growth slowing and retaliatory tariffs just beginning to bite, the [manufacturing] sector looks unlikely to fare so well for long,” Michael Pearce, senior U.S. economist at Capital Economics, said in a note.
The U.S. created 213,000 new jobs in June, above the 200,000 that had been expected, while the readings for May and April were also revised higher. Separately, the unemployment rate rose to 4% from 3.8% – which is be a good thing if it means more Americans are re-entering the work force.
The jobless rate rose largely because some 600,000 people entered the labor force.
Oil remained very strong – “bull flag” action.
Copper on the other hand looks like a disaster.
Here is the 5 day weekly “intraday” chart of the S&P 500 … not via Jill Mislinski.
Via the Visual Capitalist the world’s largest tech powers now reside solely in 2 countries! (I thought Samsung would have a say in this).
The week ahead…
Earnings season begins anew.  If the estimates are accurate this is going to be a very strong quarter and in the end, stock prices are a reflection of earnings prospects!
As an aside, longer term, this is an amazing statistic:
In the 17 midterm years since 1950, the average 12-month return after the election has been 15%—and not one of those periods has seen a negative return.
Index charts:
Short term: The S&P 500 had broken below it’s breakout level of 2740.  Friday it jumped back over.  Still a level to watch.
The Russell 2000 is already back where it was before the selling.
The NYSE McClellan Oscillator went back to black late in the week which if that holds will bode bullish.
Long term: Still very positive for the “buy and never sell” crowd.
Charts of interest / Big Movers:
This week’s winner in the biotech lottery was Adamis Pharma (ADMP) which Monday rose a cool 50% after it announced a distribution and commercialization agreement with Novartis.
Tesla (TSLA) dropped 7.2% Tuesday, adding to a 2.3% drop from Monday when The Wall Street Journal reported that the company’s top engineer Doug Field is leaving.
Thursday, Zebra Technologies agreed to buy Xplore Technologies (XPLR) – so the combined company looks like it will have a “lot of technologies”.   Xplore rose 47%.
Friday, Biogen (BIIB) jumped nearly 20% after it announced positive results from a Phase 2 trial for an Alzheimer’s treatment. The surge represented its best daily gain since February of 2004.
Have a great week and we’ll see you back here Sunday!

Charcuterie Board for Field Hockey
Last week, my oldest kiddo was headed over to her field hockey teammates house for a pasta party. The first time she’s ever been to one and was super excited about it. She tells me at the last minute that she signed up to bring a charcuterie board.
“What?,” I say.
She’s 15 and she wants a charcuterie board? I wouldn’t touch a charcuterie board with a yardstick at that age… and at this age am likely to not be interested in much on the board still. So I got to work, putting together a little list of what is usually included in a board like this and how to build one. The suggested items were often pretty interesting, and I’m not entirely sure a typical kid would be interested in, like proscuitto and mortadella.
Steering clear of that sort of ingredient, I decided to focus more on cheese, breads, crackers, dips and grapes.
I even needed to purchase an actual board, since we don’t have any here at home and figured that it would be a good investment to have in case we host an event in the future. Once the middle kid got home from school, we got started building the board. Middle kid is my chef, and loves doing projects like this, so I figured she would be a good candidate to help me get this project underway.
I think it turned out great! I love all the different shapes and colors and little nuts and things that kept it eye-catching. And I think it turned out great because my field hockey player was thrilled with the final product and was proud to bring it with her to the pasta party. And from what it looked like when we picked her up, I’d say the rest of the group enjoyed it too!

The Importance of a Warm Head
Over the last couple of days, I’ve taken a break from creating art and switched gears to crocheting and looming a few hats. And I love how they all turned out!
My dearly departed mother left behind not only my family 4 years ago, but also her best friends going back to grade school. I keep in touch with them regularly and enjoy sending them photos, cards, baked goods and treats. They’re fabulous ladies and I’m so glad to have them still in my life. I love listening to their stories and hearing their updates through email and snail mail. It’s a way to keep in touch with my mother as well.
Within the last few months, one of these lovlies was diagnosed with cancer and as I was talking to her on the phone, she was telling me how her hair falling out from the treatments was a bummer. So it got me thinking… we can’t have a cold head! So I drove over to Michaels and grabbed some fun-colored yarns, broke out the hat loom that I used to use for when I’d make the kid’s hats. And then I got started.
Each night, after finishing up the day with kids school, sports, dogs, dinner and all the rest, I’d take out my little loom at work up a hat for Lolie. As I went through each hat, I decided to try and figure out how to create little crocheted flowers to jazz them up. And I think they turned out pretty cute! Sure, there are mistakes all over the place, but I’m sure she doesn’t care. I just wanted to make sure her head stays warm as we head into the colder months.
Just a few minutes ago I got off the phone with Lolie who received the package with hats and she seemed pretty happy with them! I’m so glad that she will have a warm head now, even if it’s just for around the house. These should keep her warm and comfy!

Whimsical Watercolors 2 Class Progress
I couldn’t be more proud! Look at the gorgeous work by my fabulous Whimsical Watercolor 2 students! I’d say this is a grand slam!!! Watching the progression since our very first class together 14 weeks ago to this is just stunning and stellar!
In Whimsical Watercolors 2, we’ve been continuing our work using various techniques and really getting a handle on our doodling practices. Painting and sketching loosely from day one has gotten us to this stage and I am beyond words to see where we started and where we are now!
It’s incredible to watch the process from, “I can’t doodle and I don’t have the imagination,” to “I’m painting and drawing underwater quirky scenes and loose landscapes with no problem!” It’s so satisfying to me to watch their progression and I’m so so proud of all of the ladies that have participated in my classes these last few months!

Artristro Watercolor Paint Kit Review
When I teach watercolor classes, I think it’s important for people to try out products that are more budget friendly if they are new to watercolors.
That being said, you can’t compare the best of the best (Schminke, Daniel Smith, etc.) with other brands, but for starters, it can be daunting and scary to spend all sorts of hard earned money on a few tubes of watercolors.
This watercolor set is a great value for what you get and is perfect for beginners. This is the set that I share with my students so they have a decent start with watercolors with an array of shades that will help their imagination and creativity thrive.
If you’re in the market for a kit, definitely give these a try:

Make Your Own Holiday Planner
Several years back I created a planner using a few items from my stash. And it has completely changed the way I handle the holidays now.
I’m far more organized, have everything in one place, and best of all… it’s not electronic!
Don’t get me wrong… I love a good electronic device and my calendar is in fact digital. But something about having holiday planning, receipts, ideas, and recipes in one place that I can quickly grab makes it much easier during the busy holiday season.
Here’s a link to the video of this planner. I’ll be starting my 2022 one soon!
Enjoy!

The Big Reveal of Our Two Week "Art Club" Project
So. Much. Fun.
Wednesday Art Club finished up the “Whimsical Witch” project with flying colors and left class yesterday with the most adorable Halloween decoration ever!
Take a look:
Last week we started this super fun project by creating the head and hands from paper clay. We built the bodice, dress and hat from paper and began painting and fussy cutting our details. Each of the 3 students did a magnificent job with their step-by-step instruction. The only hard part was waiting for the clay to dry!
At our club meeting yesterday, we painted the face and features, added hair and maribou feathers and then constructed our witch, putting together all the fun details and pieces.
They are stunning, pink warts and all!
