alternatives without harming yourself:
holding/squeezing ice
splashing your face with water
getting a rubber band and snapping it against your skin (this could hurt, though it’s better than other ways that people usually choose to self-harm)
take a hot shower or bath
eat something sour. it will take your mind off the urge. (lemon, sour candy)
massage where you would self-harm
get a red pen or red paint and draw/paint over where you usually self-harm
remind yourself as to why you shouldn’t do it (scars, harms organs, leave memories etc…)
describe what you are feeling (is the urge/pain in your chest, fists, legs, arms, head?)
killing yourself will not help. it is not a solution.
you have your whole life ahead of you. you have so many more years that you can accomplish things in.
for example;
having a family
getting married
to watch the sun rise
to watch the sun set
to save someone else’s life
finish school
get your dream job
to laugh
to smile
to go camping
travel to new places
to wake up every morning to the person you love
friends
family
to keep that promise you made
to accomplish a goal
to meet your idol
to listen to new music
theme parks
video games
chocolate
to be able to look back and say “i made it”
what you’re going through is temporary.
in case you need to hear this:
you are loved.
you are wanted.
you are needed.
you are beautiful.
you are handsome.
you are important.
you are not alone.
you are okay.
you are strong.
you are worth it.
you are smart.
you are not a failure.
you are useful.
you are going to be okay.

You are absolutely allowed to grieve for the childhood you should have had but didn't. You are allowed to grieve for the things you missed out on. You are allowed to be angry, hurt or any number of things.
I hope that you are able to give yourself some of those experiences now, even if they seem 'silly', but that doesn't erase that you should have had them when you were a child. You should have received so much comfort, love and care. You deserved better.

i love you artists who just started making art. i love you artists who have been making art for years. i love you artists who make art as a hobby or passion but not for work. i love you artists who make art for work. i love you artists who feel self conscious about your art. i love you artists who are shy sharing your art sometimes. i love you artists who have been told to stop making art (please don't stop!). i love you artist who have been told their art is bad. i love you artists who make art I don't personally fully like and/or understand. i love you artist who put a lot of meaning into your art. i love you artist who just makes art they like and not with specific meaning in mind. i love you artists.

Since I'm therapist-posting recently:
Legitimately self-compassion is the biggest mental health life hack of all time. I'm NOT talking about self-esteem. You do NOT have to like yourself one bit. You don't have to believe that you're a good person who deserves good things. You just have to believe that you're a person who deserves the things all people deserve.
You can't get from "I'm the Worst" to "I'm a worthy and lovable person" without passing through "I'm just a regular fuckup like everybody else."
Try it on. If you're really addicted to being mean to yourself, you can start by framing it as I'm Not Special. Embrace being a regular fuckup like everybody else.

Hey shoutout to
People with “minor” disabilities who aren’t sure if they belong in disabled spaces
People who have rare disabilities and don’t see other people with the same disability, even in disabled spaces
People who’ve been told nothing is wrong with them even though is something clearly wrong that now feel like they’re just making stuff up
People who have been dismissed by doctors because they didn’t fit the image the doctor had of what a “sick” person looked like
People who tried to get help for their problem and are still waiting
People who have unaddressed health problems in general
Y’all are great and deserve the world!

Mmmm. There’s a lot of posts telling ace people that it’s okay to want and have sex and telling aro people that it’s okay to want and be in a relationship, and those are great and important and true but also.
It’s okay to never want to have sex. It’s okay to never be okay with sex, to have a completely sex-free relationship, to never feel comfortable having sex because you’re partner enjoys it, to never find any sort of joy in sex.
And it’s okay to never want a serious relationship. It’s okay to not want to date and it’s okay to want to spend your life single. It’s okay to never be in a serious romantic relationship and it’s okay to never be in a serious platonic relationship and you never have to have a romantic or platonic partner no matter what anyone says.
It’s okay. You’re okay.

Another day of living, breathing, dreaming, existing and just simply being, despite everything.

You are a work in progress, and that's okay. You don't deserve to beat yourself up for not being where you want to be yet.

I just heard the phrase, “If you wouldn’t trust their advice, don’t trust their criticism” for the first time and I don’t think I’ve ever needed to hear anything more

Hello, my loves. If you haven’t eaten yet today, or if you’ve had a difficult time with food for a while, this is a little reminder that you’re valuable, loved, and worthy of enjoying nice things, like delicious food and rest. It can be difficult to exist, but you’re persevering despite these hardships. If you have been waiting for a sign to be kinder or more patient towards yourself, maybe this one can encourage you to begin. I’m proud of you, and I adore you all more than words can express.
