i do like rafael okay. as a rule i enjoy an awkward scruffy man. the sprites look a little too disney for my tastes though, aesthetically pleasing overall but not attractive to me in any way. real shame since i love being horny about fictional men.
#i mean maybe it'll be great after this update. or in 5 years. still baffling they released it in the state they did.#but again i own it now. unless it's wiped from stores i'll own it after every following update. maybe one day i'll actually enjoy the game.#every once in a while i'll pop my head in. romance raf again. see how bad my gaming PC lags due to the poor optimization.

i will give Coral Island another try after the romance update despite not really enjoying my first 103 hours in the game(sunk cost fallacy)
#103! followed the kickstarter! bought it during early access! don't even *think* about telling me i haven't given it/the devs a chance.#i wonder if the house upgrades still come with invisible walls so you can't place anything in a (potential) spouse's or kid's room.

intro post
this is my gaming blog. my title's a reference to Pillars of Eternity(hiravias' line about wanting to find "an aedyran lass with a lust for little men") and my URL's a reference to Baldur's Gate 1(i'm glint's boyfriend. canonically).
i'm mostly here to talk, thirst, and analyze. i might occasionally post fanart. i've been on and off tumblr since like 2013 and i think my preferred way of using this site is to not follow anybody or track any tags. people are welcome to interact with me, i just find a busy dashboard annoying.
if you like visual novels i'm working on a fantasy one @thedragonstithe. always remember to [do your daily clicks] and if you have the means, donate to a family on [sudanfunds] or [gazafunds].

we're going to see so many games inspired by Date Everything in the next few years and most of them are going to be terrible. smaller creators are going to stretch their ideas way too thin trying to emulate its cast size and studios that want a quick cashgrab are going to make stories that are all gag and no heart. Date Everything works because it has weirdly high production value and a fondness for its characters you don't usually see in comedy VNs. it doesn't make everything into a joke, it has some quiet, genuine moments but balances them well through humor and pacing. it's not impossible to thread the needle between comedy and sincerity, quantity and quality, but it's extremely difficult to pull off and i'm kind of amazed Sassy Chap managed it.
#and it's the company's debut title! i hope they focus on support for this game before moving on but i'm excited to see what they'll do next.#and the game does need support. i noticed some typos and a few seemingly missing lines.#all patch-able. i just hope they don't rush to put out another game. Date Everything's set to have a legacy. the goodwill won't run out.#it's not running off cheap gags or topical humor. it's pretty. voice acting's solid. people are going to look back on it fondly for years.

obsessed with this interaction. hector jokingly reprimanding the player feels like such a turning point for both his character and the nature of their relationship.
#date everything#the alternate bit of ''well just look at me! oh no. no no that level of confidence doesn't work. but :) maybe we'll get there :)''#is also *choice*. i just love seeing him happy and comfortable.

i just realized Date Everything pulled a Lilo and Stitch. every character has an associated number along with a (presumably) chosen name, their stories end with them finding their one true place in the world, the protagonist is the crux for them being able to find that place(literally in terms of Realization, in some cases the player also gives characters the confidence to pursue their dreams). played me like a damn fiddle.

kudos to jacques' ending slide artist for giving him a proper prosthetic. i didn't even notice it at first, but his (very in-character) goofy pose shows off a metal ankle joint.

i love hector so much. wanting to be known and loved without ever being perceived is so damn relatable. i love that in his ending he takes that instinct to hide and turns it into self-expression. not just for himself, but for others. i love how his personality starts to shift as soon as we meet him face-to-face. once he knows we're not put off by his awkwardness or his appearance, he's not totally fixated on trying to prove his devotion or convince us he's worth caring about. his post-love lines reaffirm his feelings without any anxiety-induced pleading like early on. i love that the relationship starts out as potentially very toxic(the player could treat hector any kind of way and he'd still be desperately in love with them) and ends up instilling the sort of confidence he'd need to put it on more equal footing.
#date everything#in my elaborate post-ending daydreams i live with my beloved hector and our roommates barry and mateo.#when i want to mix things up we're in a polycule and jacques is also there. alright that's enough self insert talk.

i'm sure it was meant to be more about the pandemic but Date Everything actually has the bones of an interesting metanarrative about disability in that every character is housebound. i know there are explicitly disabled characters and everyone can eventually leave and maybe i'm grasping at straws, but you could argue there's (intentionally or not) commentary here about dating discrimination. the objects start out as just things, not really worth a second glance, then the glasses come into play. disabled and mentally ill people, especially folks who are totally or mostly housebound, are often excluded from conversations regarding sex and relationships. i do feel like the game says something about making an effort to see people society says aren't worthy of attention as viable options for partners. also i think it awakened some sort of repressed air conditioner fetish in me.
#unrelated but hector's so hot. including when he's out of the vents. love me a scruffy guy with an asymmetrical face.#and his voice is soothing. not the one he uses in the vents; his real one. a little on the high side and gentle and warm.#date everything#i haven't played the whole game so this reading might fall apart when i get further. still. it's there in the first 10ish hours.#and i'm sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere. i'm not really involved in fandom these days.
