Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism are neurodevelopmental disorders that can often be overlooked or misdiagnosed in women, especially when the diagnosis comes later in life, typically in their 30s. The reasons behind this delayed diagnosis vary, but sometimes it's due to the fact that symptoms in women may differ from those typically associated with these conditions. It is not uncommon for women with ADHD and Autism to adapt and mask their differences, making it harder for professionals to recognize their needs. This can eventually lead to a state of neurodivergent burnout, where the individual has been operating over capacity for too long, causing their minds to break. This burnout is particularly debilitating because it encompasses an overwhelming sense of mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion. It's important to acknowledge that Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is not limited to soldiers on the battlefield. Chronic exposure to traumatic stimuli can also lead to PTSD. Therefore, it's crucial that society takes PTSD seriously in all its forms, providing support and understanding to those who have experienced such chronic trauma, whether due to combat or ongoing neurodivergent struggles.
