people who have children usually give these few reasons:

1). "I just want to". this one is very straightforward. you're having a kid purely out of your own desire, without any consideration of the child itself. you are creating suffering purely for your own pleasure of the child existing, which is sadistic by definition.

2). "I want to give them a better life than I had / I want to do a better job than my parents". this reason has nothing to do with protecting the child, but rather the parent's own ego. "i want to do better than my parents". you're having a child purely to prove that you could've done better. that is feeding your ego. you are having a child to feel better about yourself. "i want to give them a better life than I had". if you truly wanted to protect your child, you would not have them. regardless of if their life is "better" than yours was, it will have immense suffering. you are bringing an innocent child suffering with the only justification being "I'm doing better than my parents gave me, therefore I must be protecting them" which goes back to ego. to protect is to shield from as much suffering as possible. there is no point in protecting someone from suffering, when you are inducing that suffering by forcing them to exist. that's like hitting someone with your hand and claiming you are protecting them because being hit with a book is worse.
