Global Kalyan - Desert Wheatear Bird found in near Kalyan city at Dombivali
Tumblr media
Did you know about Desert Wheatear Bird?
The Desert Wheatear Bird (Oenanthe Deserti) is a wheatear, a small passerine bird that was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family Turdidae, but is now more generally considered to be an Old World flycatcher (Muscicapidae). It is a migratory insectivorous species, 14.5 to 15 cm (5.7 to 5.9 in) in length.
On 1st March in Dombivali city, Desert Wheatear, a rare bird in South Africa, has been found in Bhopar village of Dombivli. Bird watcher and nutritionist Dr. Mahesh Patil has managed to capture this handsome party in his camera.
Reached Dombivli after covering a distance of almost 5 thousand kilometers...
As usual Dr. Mahesh Patil was walking in Bhopar village. At that time, he noticed this rare bird. The well-known Sahara Desert of South Africa is the native habitat of this very agile Desert Wheatear group. From this place, this Rangoja (Desert Wheatear) bird has come to Dombivli after covering a distance of 5 thousand kilometers. Interestingly, its shape and color is similar to our Chimney. Every year during the winter days, this tiny but equally strong bird enters India by crossing a distance of thousands of kilometers, bird watcher Dr. Mahesh Patil told LNN.
Generally, Rangoja (Desert Wheatear) stays with us till the end of March and after that, this bird once again takes an eagle leap (there is no other proper word except eagle leap due to the distance it cuts due to its small size) towards its original place. Mahesh Patil said.

Global Kalyan - Kala Talao
Tumblr media
Kala Talao
Kala Talao – Thane district known as lake district. The lakes enhance the beauty of many cities in the district. Whether it is Thane city or Kalyan-Dombivali, the lakes here are the pride of these cities. The historical black lake in Kalyan is the historical glory of this city. A tour of this beautiful, scenic area is a unique experience.
There is a black lake on one side of the road from Shivaji Chowk to Bhiwandi in Kalyan West. The importance of this city was unique in the history of Kalyan city. Kala Talao was formerly the water source of Kalyan city. In time, the lake became barren; But the municipal corporation beautified the lake five years ago and made the area beautiful with this lake.
Tumblr media
It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. However, there is a ‘black mosque’ on one side of the lake. It is believed that the lake got its name from that. The lake was earlier known as Shenale Lake. During the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Peshwa, this lake, which made the city of Kalyan self-sufficient in terms of water, is the historical story of the city. Due to the abundance of water in this lake, it was discharged into the surrounding lakes through underground canals. At that time there were ten lakes in Kalyan city and they were supplied with water only from Kala Talao. At that time, even in summer, all the lakes in Kalyan were filled with water.
Located in the heart of the city, the lake was beautified by the Municipal Corporation as it was an attraction of the city and the lake was crowded with tourists. If you want a relaxing air throughout the unit, this area is very picturesque. The five fountains in the lake attract attention. Often the area around the lake is illuminated at night, at which time the beautiful view of the lake is illuminated and your eyes also light up. Thui Thui dancing fountains in the lake look very beautiful when illuminated. A protective wall has been built around the lake, with a jogging track on its side. An open gym has recently been set up on one side of the lake, which is crowded with youngsters and exercisers in the mornings and evenings.
Tumblr media
There is a garden on one side of the lake, with toys for the little ones. In the evening there is a chirping of children’s company in this garden. When crocodiles, herons or other birds come to the lake, it is a great experience to observe or watch them play. The lake also has boating facilities. There is no other place like the Black Pool to get a good night’s sleep.

Subhedar Wada – A Historical Building
The term ‘Subhedar Wada’ means a small palace of the Governor. Subhedar Wada is a famous ancient building which was once residence of Governor of Kalyan. The building, having been built in midst of 18th century stood erect for more than 230 years and was just now demolished in Sept. 2002. The ‘Subhedar Wada’ was not just an historical palace for citizens of Kalyan city but it was far more.
In the 18th century the ‘Wada’ served as merely a residential building of Subhedar Biwalkar, Governor of Kalyan under Maratha Kingdom spread in the the states, currently known as Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujrat. In 1890s Mrs. Akshikar started the first British Govt. recognized school in Kalyan named General Education Institute’s High School in this Subhedar Wada. The Institute later bought the wada from Biwalkar and is still owner of the building. Since then the school also is known as Subhedar Wada. Along with the school, it has also been center of drama theatre in Kalyan. The celebration of Ganpati Festival in Subhedar Wada is not only famous but also prestigious to Kalyan. Almost four generations of Kalyan Citizens got their education through the school with its trained and highly experienced teachers.
Tumblr media
The building was not an ordinary architecture, it was an ancient architecture present in List of Ancient Artifacts of State Govt. of Maharashtra.. It was typical Marathi architecture of 17th century with a large open space in the middle called ‘chowk’ and a very huge door of height about 15 ft. The Subhedar Wada had two such large chowks and two large doors. The ‘Ganesh mahal’ – the front end of the building was carved and sculptured skillfully, the windows carved in wood with various designs.
The building has been demolished down, as stated earlier, for the new expanded school building which will be now built in that place. So, Subhedar Wada, once a pride of Kalyan, has unexpectedly turned into memories for Kalyan Citizens.
