What’s a scene(s) from a fic that you’ve written that you often replay in your head?

What is something that a character or oc of yours has done that you didn’t expect (i.e. the characters wrote the story for you)?

I'm answering these two asks together cuz I've been waiting to answer them until this latest SPS chapter (12) was posted... so, spoilers for that, obviously ☺️

the scene of Nicholas and Seiji by the overpass is one of the first scenes i conceived of when I was coming up with the story, and I mentally revisited it countless times. it's the first of a few... what i would call pivotal scenes? when i finally was able to write it, it was both a relief and an insane amount of pressure. it was really important to me to capture the emotional significance of that moment, and hopefully i was at least somewhat successful 🙇🏼‍♀️

I outline extensively for this story, which is new to me - I've usually been very bare bones with my outlines in the past, but with SPS I'm attempting so many different things that i simply have to get it all laid out in advance. and yet, when i actually get to writing I'm continually surprised by how things deviate from my plans. the characters feel very real to me, and they'll assert themselves and they'll say/do things differently than i planned and I'll have to adjust on the fly. I think the sex scene in chapter 12 is a prime example - much as i had wanted and planned for it to flow effortlessly, it turned out that Seiji was hitting some speed bumps inside his head, and i let that play out the way it did.

in general, everything ends up being longer and messier than i originally planned, which is both exciting and frustrating. I keep thinking back to the time when I thought i was gonna be able to post the Halloween chapter ON Halloween which is so so funny to me now. my goal is to finish the story this year (we're not even halfway there..., 😭) , so i really hope these guys will let me!

The thin road weaves through the woods. There are no streetlights, and no other vehicles around; the only light is from the almost-full moon and the motorcycle’s headlights glinting off the metal roadside barrier. The roar of the engine diffuses through the trees.

He feels free. Unstoppable. The rest of the world is a million miles away.

But in reality, he’s only minutes outside of New Haven’s suburbs. And right behind him, hands gingerly grasping his waist, is Seiji Katayama. Sharing this tiny, precious space with him.

Nicholas grips the handlebars tighter, checking them. They feel real and solid beneath his hands. He can’t entirely convince himself that this isn’t a dream, but if it is, it’s the most vivid one he’s ever had.
