We stopped at The old Clam House on our way to drop my mother off at SFO on Saturday and was surprised at the number of hot sauces they had.  Ever since watching Hot Ones on YouTube, we’ve been experimenting with different hot sauces and have had friends over for tastings.  On our table sat Neal’s Delicious Suffering and I decided to give it a try.
Neal’s Delicious Suffering:
When buying hot sauces, I’ve always steered away from anything with chile extract.  It’s usually more heat than flavor and is a bit much for my tases.  And I was right....
Delicious Suffering has habanero and serrano peepers as it’s heat source as well as chilie extract.  Looking past the warming of “use extreme caution” and use one drop at a time,” I dipped some bread into the sauce I’d poured on my plate.  With the absorbency of the bread, it must have been 3-4 drops and every place it touched felt like when you eat too hot pizza and it causes skin stalagmites to form in your mouth.  All liquids were drained on the table and I was in pain for the next 20-30 minutes.
I really couldn’t tell you about the taste because the heat hit me so hard.  I probably will not repeat this one.
Liquid Stoopid:
As I was coming down from the Delicious Suffering I heard the whelp of a fellow hot sauce eater.  He had just consumed Liquid Stoopid.  Being idiots, we exhcned bottles and tried the items that were causing us so much pain.
Putting a little on the tip of my knife, the heat wave started again as I placed it in my mouth.  Looking at the label, this one was jalapeno based but fortified with chile extract to bring it up to 250,000 SHU.  The only saving grace was the small amount I tasted but it still hit hard.  Again, the heat hit so hard and fast, taste didn't come into play.  A no go for me.
See Jane On Fire:
The people at the table over handed over another sauce they had on the table called See Jane Burn.  Being that I was already swimming in the deep end, I tried this one too, pouring a drop on a spoon.  This one was nice, with a cayenne base and a great flavor.  The heat was there but nothing compared to the other two (no chile extract) and I could see it as a great day to day hot sauce.  It also had the best label of the three (in my opinion),  I’m going to pick up a bottle of this one.
