ringing everything up comes easily, hands to work as she sets her fan down. “you have no idea— don’t get me wrong, i love working the counter and making sure everything’s running well, but when it’s slow, it’s slooooow,” there’s a slight whine to her voice. “i brought water with me from this morning, but it’s actually almost done. the a.c.’s helping a little, thankfully, but it may not last until my dad comes to switch shifts later.”
Jieun laughs and reaches over to touch the ends of Sori’s hair. “It looks good!” she says, dropping her arm back onto the table. “Seems like a bit of a waste to get it re-dyed when you’re cooped up in here anyway. Unless... it was for someone specific?” She grins, standing up straight again.
“Here, just take the water in my bag.” She turns the knob on her bag to open it and then fishes around for the bottle of water she took from her house. “I’ll just grab more. You probably need it more than I do.”
She shoves the bag of newly-bought supplies into her own bag and then slams it shut. It’s a tight fit---it wouldn’t have fit with the water bottle in. “Isn’t it like, illegal, to not have proper air conditioning in this weather? And I mean seriously illegal. I’m pretty sure not having access to real cool air in this heat is some sort of rights violation, considering you’re a store. Not that anyone cares. I mean more for your sake. That tiny fan and whatever pathetic air conditioning you have right now does not cut it.”
“It’s not that expensive to replace it for a better one, I think. You should start a fundraiser---save Sori from heat exhaustion.”

OPERATION JIHO
@gnjiho
Jieun is ready as fuck. She has both her laptop and her phone out. She has the best wifi in Gaenari. She has her favourite pair of jeans on. And Jiho should be here any moment now, blissfully unaware of her master plan and ready to spill out his deepest secrets (not that it takes much to get honest answers from him, in her experience.) Needless to say, she’s excited. This can only go perfectly.
When Jiho enters the juice bar, she flags him down with a bright smile. He looks... exhausted, which is pretty much the state he’s been in the last few times she saw him, but, well. She’s going to fix that! “Oppa!” she says brightly. “Get your ass over here!”
She carefully tilts her laptop away from him as he sits down; he would freak out if he knew what she was doing, so she’s just not going to tell him. It’s for his own good, anyways. And her reasoning isn’t exactly a lie. More like half a lie.
“Thanks for agreeing to be my interviewee,” she smiles. “I’ll have to write down your answers, but I promise I’ll put them to good use!” She takes a long sip of her cool lemonade, tilting her head. “Do you want anything to eat or drink before we start? I’ll treat you. We may be here for a couple of hours.”

SUMMER SERVICE
@gnsori
The art store Jieun enters is one very familiar to her by now. When she was young and just moved to Gaenari, she was intimidated by its warmth; it almost seemed like being welcomed into someone’s home rather than a shop to buy things in. Now, it brings her the same comfort that her art club back in Seoul did when she was a kid. It’s somewhere reliable, where she knows she can wind down and browse in peace (a very different nature than the bustling, hard-selling stores in the city.)
Her eyes crinkle with a smile when she sees Sori standing at the counter. “Sori-ya!” She waves. “I’m just here to pick some stuff up for work. You look beautiful, as usual!” It’s a sincere compliment; Sori is too pretty to be cooped up in this store for most of her time. But then again, it’s for the good cause of her family business, so Jieun can’t judge.
But her smile drops when she surveys the store. She’s the only customer here; her heart twists. Daehan may have stores with more quantity, but the quality here can’t be beat. Her work only calls for a can of paint and a few new brushes (her previous ones have been destroyed from overuse), but she buys a couple extra to support the cause. She can make up the expense later.
Dumping the supplies on the counter, she leans her cheek against her hand and tilts her head. “You must be so bored and hot in here. It’s so humid today. You have cold water, right? Do you need me to bring you some?”

OUTSIDE THE GAME
@gnminjae
Jieun nags a lot, but it’s out of love. Really. She hates seeing her friends waste their lives and time---and Minjae is one of those people.
It’s not that she hates video games. She actually loves them. But not to the point where she’ll spend all her time, indoors and out, glued to her phone or some gaming system. The world is vast and there’s so many people and opportunities out there. She can’t imagine leaving her house just to play more games that she could also be playing alone.
She wasn’t planning on stopping Minjae when she passed him (Gaenari is a small town, she sees him pretty much every day) until she saw his thumb flicking furiously across his screen and then a batch of noises that told her he was not enjoying the outdoors as intended. Sighing, she turns right around to tap on his shoulder, plastering on her best smile.
“Minjae-ya!” she says before he has the chance to say anything back. “What are you doing out here? Taking a walk? Why are you on your phone, huh? It’s such a nice day outside! I’m going to an event in the park, you should come join us! It’s good to socialize in the summer months, else you’ll get lonely.”

HIDEAWAY
@gnminhyuk
Jieun is taking a nice, peaceful walk through the outskirts of the city. And then suddenly she’s not taking a nice, peaceful walk, but a determined, irritated one.
When she rounds the corner onto a street that google maps says is a shortcut, it’s not the clearly-longer distance to her destination that gets her aggravated, but the smell of smoke. What kind of a person smokes in a neighborhood? She shakes her head, more than ready to give whoever it is a piece of her mind, and follows the scent to a path that leads into the nearby valley. It only takes a few steps then for her to recognize the shifting figure among the bushes.
Her anger dying down into disappointment, she jumps over a few sticky puddles on the ground and subsequently shoves her way into Minhyuk’s personal space. Her eyes narrow at the cigarette between his fingers, but she tries to keep her expression at bay. The last thing she wants is to come off as flat-out rude.
“... You should really stop doing that. How long have you been out here for? I could smell the smoke from around the corner.” She resists the urge to literally slap it out of his hand. The idea that he feels that this is a proper coping strategy just genuinely upsets her. “You’re going to start a fire or something.”

gnyena:
(...)
for these purposes, however, she tries to not think about that.
her heeled boots tap on the platform as she gets out of the train, spotting her friend and immediately walking toward her, arm lifted in a wave. “hey!” she runs a hand through dark, wavy hair ( curled that morning, which she can only hope will stay in this humidity.). “sorry, the train ran late.” did it? she really didn’t know. she assumes so though, and leaves it at that. “but please, i’m dying of thirst so iced coffee sounds amazing right now.”
“I’ll treat you,” Jieun says happily, putting one her arms over Yena’s shoulders. “You look good. You know, I always like walking around with you in this town. Everyone stares at us.” She laughs.
Reaching into her purse with her other hand, Jieun pulls out a hair tie and straightens her hair with her fingers before tying it up. It’s probably too late to stop the sweat from pooling at her nape (a disgusting feeling that makes her wish public showers were socially acceptable), but the breeze feels nice.
“You should tie your hair up too. You’ll get too hot if you let it sit on your back. Here, I have another in my bag somewhere.”
They arrive at the line at the coffee shop inside the train station and Jieun fishes out another hair tie to pass to her with a smile, not waiting for an answer. The last thing she wants is Yena to die from heat exhaustion because she didn’t want to tie up her hair.
“So, what’s up with you? How’s school? Met any cute boys? Girls? You haven’t secretly had a kid, have you?”

BEYOND THE NAME
@gnxmyungsoh
Despite Jieun’s self-proclaimed friendly nature, there were some people she didn’t know. Or, well, she knew everyone. But there were some people she actively avoided talking to, for both their sake’s.
The decisive list of people Jieun didn’t want to talk to, ever: people she didn’t like, obviously; people who tried to sell her drugs; and then people she just had a feeling she wouldn’t get along with. Extraordinarily rare, but she’d rather save both their time by not initiating conversation than have to fumble through awkward small talk.
Kwon Myungsoh is one of those people.
Jieun knows more than enough about the Kwon family to know their interests align far, far away from hers. His eldest sister seems alright, but she’s far more useful than Myungsoh seems to be, and she’s heard of her actually helping people with her medicine. What is Myungsoh doing half the time she sees him lying around in the grass? Who knows, but it’s probably not helping people, so he’s wasting his time. Jieun doesn’t want to get involved. (The amount of people who have told her that they should be friends drives her absolutely insane and her irritation even further.)
Alas, there are times that even she has to go out of her comfort zone for the greater good.
Grinding her teeth together, she kneels down to pick up the wallet that so unfortunately happened to drop right in front of her. She has things to do, but she can’t let this guy walk off without his stuff, even if he does have unfortunately coloured hair. It’s clearly well-used and half-open. She carefully zips it up as she says, “hey. You dropped your wallet. Pay attention more.”
When the guy turns around, she tries not to roll her eyes. Of course, out of everyone in the town, it would be him. She saw him just last week around town and his hair is already another colour? “Your hair is going to fall off if you don’t stop dyeing it, you know.”

COMING HOME
@gnyena
Jieun taps her foot impatiently at the waiting platform, checking her phone every five seconds. Which then lowers to two seconds the longer Yena isn’t in front of her. The train was supposed to arrive five minutes ago, and Jieun has no problems with stomping up to the customer service desk to ask what the hold up is if it doesn’t arrive right now. She’s not going to risk getting disgusting sweat stains in her shirt from standing in the sun any longer.
Attending vocational school instead of university meant that most of her friends spent their days far, far away from her; long gone was the ability to meet friends after school and walk around downtown together, or bask in Gaenari’s beautiful parks and forests. Now, meeting up was something that had to be arranged, especially with those who decided to ditch Gaenari come post-secondary.
Still, she couldn’t blame Yena for preferring the city over Gaenari. Jieun’s pretty sure the girl had like three acquaintances during high school, one of which was Jieun (and they didn’t even start talking regularly until post-secondary); the city seemed to have brought out the best in her. Some people are just meant for city life, she supposes.
But that doesn’t mean Jieun doesn’t want to see her. She’s pretty sure Yena can deal with being in Gaenari for a while to visit her family and her. And if she has to wait one more minute---
Her back straightens when she hears the familiar sound of the train rolling in. Throwing her bag over her shoulder, she hurries to the front of the platform before all of the loud families can shove past her.
“Yena-ya,” she calls. “Hey! Over here.” She waves her hands and ignores the disgruntled woman behind her complaining that she can’t see. Jieun was here first, she can do whatever she wants. “It’s too hot out. Let’s get inside already. I waited out here for like an hour,” she groans. “God, I need an iced coffee or something. We can hit up the drink stand on our way out.”
