Retired due to excessively prolonged and consistent lack of interest in what I make. Sometimes I’ll reblog things that don’t fit my sideblogs. Don’t expect much from this depressed guy. If you’re a drama-hound, I will block you without a second thought and forget you ever existed. Zero patience for petty nonsense or discourse born of a warped perspective caused by staying too mired in internet discourse.

While I’ve been at work the weather decided to remove every viable option I had to get home when I clock out in less than an hour.
I can’t even patrol in the hail. The damage would pile up pretty fast with the wind driving it this hard and I’m pretty fuckin’ sure my bosses would prefer not to be liable for that while I’m on the job. Not keen on enduring that myself, either. Pretty sure it’d damage my umbrella pretty badly if I tried to go that route. No way in fuck I’m asking someone to drive on what now looks to be a quarter inch of loosely packed hard ice crystals and I don’t drive because frankly cars are terrifying and wasteful and should never have been made a cornerstone of this society. Anything smaller will lose control even easier in this. So anything with wheels is pretty much out.
Really not sure what to do here. Might have to see if I’d be allowed to wait at the job site until hopefully this shit stops in like four hours.

Working a regular nightshift schedule really fucks with you sometimes, but not the way you probably think if you haven’t worked a night shift.
Once your sleep schedule adjusts your brain just kinda registers when you wake up as “morning” and you end up saying “good morning” to people at 2:30 PM and “good night” at 7 AM without really thinking about the fact that the sun should be on the other side of the sky when you say those things. It makes people look at you funny.
It’s even worse when you realize you’ve been telling people you work a 9 to 5 without specifying that it’s PM to AM.

Part of the appeal of mechs to me is the fact that I can viscerally imagine how satisfying it would be to feel myself getting better as a pilot. The sheer elation after pulling off a nearly impossible maneuver, regardless of whether it was luck or skill. The kinetic feedback of analog controls or the oneness of neural linking coupled with the sheer weight and power of the steel. The knowledge that despite my armor my survival depends on my piloting alone. The intimacy of knowing this particular machine in ways even other pilots couldn’t possibly.
These things trigger something primal and positive in my mind despite the advanced technology. Mechs are the peak of man and machine to me. Nature and science colliding to produce something so much grander than either could be alone.
Also giant robot fights are just plain fun conceptually.

I like to imagine fantasy airships as crustacean-inspired.
Crab shaped hovercraft with two clamps for interacting with things or grabbing onto docks.
Lobster shaped battleships with cannon claws.
Nautilus shaped cargo vessels!
Hermit crab shaped flying houseboats with a driver’s seat like a horse drawn carriage in front of the shell!
Please tell me someone else sees my vision here!

Let this post serve as my official warning that I will now begin unfollowing people for reblogging shit that stresses me out without even tagging the damn post (which appears to make it bypass the filtered tags) and I’m not even going to check the URL to see who it is.
I literally just want to browse one website without having politics jammed down my fucking throat at every turn. I’m well aware that fucked up shit is happening, fucked up shit has happened consistently since the first asswipe who decided he was better than the rest of his species convinced people he was right. I don’t give a fuck which side you’ve decided you’re on, I can only offer platitudes which are useless in aiding your struggles anyway, and I don’t want your fucking one-sided propaganda and political tribalism in my god damned life and if the only way to remove those things from my life is to cut you out of it, so be it. I am beyond caring which faction it’s coming from or criticizing at this point. I’m going to make Tumblr my one politics-free space and I will curate my dash until it happens. I’m putting my fucking foot down and I will not apologize if anyone has opinions on this. In fact, I will likewise not hesitate to simply block anyone who tries to give me shit for daring to want to engage with the world without stressing once in a while.
Have a nice day.

Really don’t want to, but a few otherwise fine people I’ve followed are now the main source of politics on my dash. Might have to unfollow because otherwise, Tumblr remains bad for my headspace.

I’ve probably mentioned this before but I started playing Sonic Generations recently and it’s relevant in my mind again.
I really, really want to like Sonic as a whole more. Like the whole franchise. Grew up trying to hunt emblems and secrets in Sonic Adventure on the Gamecube. Listened to Crush 40 growing up because god DAMN Sonic Heroes and Follow Your Heart are bangers and I got a bunch of their music on CD one birthday after talking about how a real band did the game music I was always listening to. Apparently it’s in my blood because my mother, who I’ve seen hold a game controller maybe twice my entire life, got all the chaos emeralds in the original Sonic The Hedgehog game before having me. She shows zero interest in gaming my whole life and casually drops that info one day
But… I just cannot get past the fanbase, man. Not only because of the bizarrely intense gatekeeping that happens but because things get way too weird way too fast way too often. At this point even if I found a solid branch of the community with no flaws, it’s still tainted my perception of the source material.
A big part of my draw to the series is the shape language in the character designs, I think. Let’s be real, none of the characters are all that nuanced in terms of personality, but that’s kind of by design. But there’s a lot of good communication happening with the colors and shapes used for each character. It’s minimalistic character design, but honestly done well. The silhouettes are easily recognized and they really do get the right vibe across even before the character says or does anything of note. They’re not everyone’s cup of tea but they have what I like in character design: Very strong design fundamentals. And perhaps most importantly for the gameplay… They’re all very easy to read even when moving very fast. That’s an underrated and undoubtedly intentional piece of the equation… The games wouldn’t have been half as appealing over the years of the characters were just perceived as a messy blur on the screen at full speed. That’s not the easiest thing to do, making them easily tracked even while paying attention to other things at high speed.

Writing advice:
If your story has two characters that you can’t help but imagine being romantic with each other, maybe try rolling with that and seeing where it goes. If you can’t push it out of your mind it means you find something compelling about their dynamic in that context, and odds are, your readers will too. You can always scrap it and re-explore from the point the romance would start if you don’t like where it leads.

Dipping very dry breads in a mixture of olive oil and some kinda reddish vinegar. As a kid I kinda thought it was like… A fancy thing she was doing. Like drinking wine. Turns out, nope, moistening dry bread with some olive oil was just the fewest layers she could manage to taste basically straight vinegar without anyone questioning it. I tried it later and the vinegar taste CLEAVES through any other flavors in that combination.
okay we all have sad, upsetting and terrifying ones, but what's something SILLY that your parents were convinced that "everybody does, you're just not supposed to talk about it" that you assumed must be true, and only found out as an adult that nobody actually does that, ever, and your parents are just weird?

Imagine gnomes and halflings using big fluffy goats as mounts. Enemy walls would mean nothing to such a cavalry unit.

Fun fact! Scythes have seen (admittedly infrequent) use as weapons in history! Notably by using the heft of the weapon to stab armored targets with the pointed tip after some additional sharpening. The further one gets from “grab the farming tool and fight,” the more “battle scythes” began to resemble halberds or warpicks. But anyone who says scythes were never used and didn’t work as weapons is wrong! The weight of that pointed blade on such a long handle was a threat even to armored opponents when they were used! Their issues really boiled down to a lack of versatility rather than a lack of lethality. But it’s not like hammers or crossbows are dripping with versatility either.
"scythes are impractical as a weapon" ok but does anything else have the Cunt. i think not

Sometimes the bar for whether a fandom’s behavior is tolerable isn’t “being normal.”
Sometimes the bar is literally as low as “Don’t be insufferable” and some fandoms can’t even do that.
We all had at least one fandom come to mind when reading that. And I bet about fourty percent of you are part of the one you thought of.

I am again being told by people that I have “german shepherd vibes.” When I ask why people say that, all I get in response is “You’re literally a security guard.” Like I’m supposed to see some secondary meaning to that? Baffling.
And no. I’m not being ironic here.

I am officially single again. She didn’t like that I had some sexual health concerns about polyamory.
I dunno why I try anymore. It’s like I’m not allowed to have boundaries, and Lord knows I’m not gonna stay in a relationship where boundaries aren’t respected.

A word for the new year.
It can feel a hell of a lot like nothing good is coming, but a year’s plenty of time for everything to change. So aim to make the changes good ones. Start with yourself and work outward from there. Be patient with your progress and steady in your efforts. I promise it will pay off.

I’m one hundred percent sure aliens exist and are very aware of what goes on here on Earth.
I’m also one hundred percent sure they’re waiting for us to get our collective shit together as a species before making contact. I wouldn’t want to step into the pile of shit that is global human politics either. Let alone elevate a species that’s still prone to waging large scale wars for arbitrary reasons to a spacefaring species.
Besides, when all the information is taken together, the belief that aliens are real and aware of us necessarily implies that they’re either native to a certain radius of the solar system or our science has, somewhere, a fundamental misconception about the nature of space and distance. Frankly the latter is far more likely in my eyes. Science is literally the art of proving ourselves wrong until we can’t prove ourselves wrong anymore.
