"exercise will give you more energy" gets said a lot as a common piece of health advice but I think it needs to be expanded into "exercising will make you tired while you do it, and you will continue to be tired immediately afterwards, sometimes even the next day too, but over months of consistent exercise, your muscles will get stronger and therefore get less tired out by everyday activities, making you feel like day-to-day life takes less physical energy than it used to"
#the more you do the more you can do!#it really is as simple as that#unless you have some sort of degenerative disease

complimented a cashier on her turtle pin this morning and she said "oh thanks, I am a little bit of a Turtle Person" with the carefully contained energy of Cookie Monster telling you he's mildly fond of chocolate chips
I hope she and the multiple tons of turtle merch she definitely has at home are having a wonderful day
#shes literally me#i have tonnes of merch of all my favourite animals#and i also try to play it cool when it gets brought up

First swim with the new tail. It's super heavy! The fluke has vinyl lining inside it, with the monofin inserted into that. So it's hard to move. I can't quite wave it around above the water yet or make it flap and splash like the old one. But I'm sure it's a case of learning the knack as I keep using it and becoming acclimatised to the weight. I already began to get used to it the first time. I can swim well in it anyway and I muuuuch prefer this monofin to my last one (I have a linden monofin). My old fin (finfun pro) used to destroy my toes, but the new one has a more secure fit, so my feet aren't being pummelled by the heavy tail when I kick.

Beached like a whale. :p
#mermaid tail#mermaiding#mermaidkin#i love doing this so much its my favourite thing ever#i wish i could show my kid self she couldnt even swim despite being mermaid obsessed

As of the other night I had the third round of those dreams. It's like an ongoing conversation or something. If I were more spiritually inclined I'd be convinced these are visits, I welcome them if they are.

Faunaluna, the latest attempt by someone at coining yet another word that means "more therianer than thou" reads like the name of a cartoon wolf's yassified love interest.
Jargon for jargon's sake. Boring. Just fucking describe things for once, people.
#therianthropy#i've lost count of the number of therian+ words that reinvent the basic concept#therianthropy is already as real as any feeling or belief can be#and your THERIAN BUT REAL terms are equal in that regard

I had that dream again last night with a few details changed, but the premise was the same. The thing that ties them altogether is my size, I'm always child height. It felt super real, and I woke up and realised I was crying in my sleep while dreaming it (I was in the dream too). It took a while to stop because I was devastated that I didn't finish the conversation in time before waking up.

“The famous primatologist Frans de Waal, of Emory University, says this is something humans do all the time—downplay similarities between us and other animals, as a way of maintaining our spot at the top of our imaginary ladder. Scientists, de Waal points out, can be some of the worst offenders—employing technical language to distance ourselves from the rest of the animals. They call “kissing” in chimps “mouth-to-mouth contact”; they call “friends” between primates “favourite affiliation partners”; they interpret evidence showing that crows and chimps can make tools as being somehow qualitatively different from the kind of toolmaking said to define humanity. If an animal can beat us at a cognitive task—like how certain bird species can remember the precise locations of thousands of seeds—they write it off as instinct, not intelligence. This and so many more tricks of language are what de Waal has termed “linguistic castration.” The way we used our tongues to disempower animals, the way we invent words to maintain our spot at the top.”
- Lulu Miller, Why Fish Don’t Exist
#it pisses me off soooo much when scientists go the scenic route when describing something#just describe what you fucking see its more intuitive than you nerds let on
