As a newbie to fighters, Tekken 8's Ghost Battle has been a huge boon for me. I got to see my weaknesses pretty well thanks to it. I'll have to toy with it more and learn to fight myself lol
Honestly, I think it's pretty neat that Helldivers 2 is mostly playable solo. It's hard as hell, and there's certain match-ups that I wouldn't be surprised if they're impossible solo.
Having to deal with 2 chargers definitely is an unfun™ experience for solo though.
I haven't ever really bothered following Mortal Kombat (personally I found the violence to be a bit much once you reached about MK10, maybe even MK9, primarily due to it being a smidge glorified), but I swear it feels like every conversation about the newest game, MK1, is some variation of "it's over".
I know the fighting game scene has a running joke/ thing with saying a game is over when like, barely anything is wrong from a casual level, but I've seen it with MK1 so much I'm wondering what the fuck happened. The way it sounds, as an outsider to the franchise, is that the game is a cascading mess that collapses in on itself.
Can't help but wonder the how and why it's fucked up.
As someone whose first Mega Man they 100%'d I always found the rather mixed reviews of ZX Advent to be a bit surprising. Yes, A-trans is a mixed bag as ultimately you're only going to use the Biometals for bulk gameplay and avoid the Pseudoroids until they are necessary, but it's still a cool feeling system.
I dunno, I'd like to see a Mega Man series where the concept of taking shape of the bosses you beat is a thing again.
Lately I've gotten into fighting games. Been training a lot in Guilty Gear Strive, and eyeing up Tekken 8. We'll see if I do bite on that one, especially since it comes out way later.
Genuinely love all of the companions in Baldur's Gate 3. Only one I'd say I'm the least thrilled with is Gale, not because he's bad or nothin', just that his approval is so easy to shoot up that he ends up thirsting over me as I'm trying to sauce up the funny air fryer. It's not you, Gale; it's me.
So I don't see this talked about enough, but can we all just acknowledge how cute it is that Lae'zel is really happy to educate you on her culture if you ask? Questions about the Githyanki typically give approval, and I feel that gives her something of a dorky vibe underneath all the initial walls she puts up.
but seriously though, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Baldur's Gate 3, Armored Core 6, Boltgun, Remnant 2, Tears of the Kingdom, Hi-Fi Rush, the RE4 remake, and hell probably more. It's kind of insane. I genuinely am quite thrilled with how many kickass games we're getting. I just wish I had the money for it all
Can this year stop being amazing for video games already? My wallet can't handle it lol
Larian has been able to make me very sad for dogs so many times I think it's insane. That or I just really care a lot about animals, because the moment they're sad, so am I.
The worst case, every time, is "owner is dead/ missing, and that makes me really sad" dog characters.
You know, I constantly see games with commend systems for your team, but why not one for your enemies as well?
Menace for when the player was tearing shit up
Good Sport for when they were a friendly opponent and fun to play with
Skilled for when the opponent was just really good
Or just something along those lines. Make it so you can commend one ally and one opponent. Unsure if it'd breed a wholesome community, but it could be worth a try.
A few weeks ago I had a funny moment in FF14. I had basically dragged some other people into the game for the first time. One of them was quite a bit farther than everyone else. Without them realizing what I was doing I brought them to a certain grave and cackled as the same grief overcame them. There's is an odd satisfaction knowing that someone else was just as invested as I was.
