Satellite || Zaya
    Zig got himself dressed; he was at his house for a bit that way he can be able to grab the work he needed. He knew that grades were coming in soon but his parents were too busy with the store to care; Zig really didn’t mind though. He wasn’t doing badly in school from what he remembered. He was just going on by; most of his classes were great. Except the ones that had Tori in it because of their recent fight, a lot of tension has gone down between them. He just didn’t understand her problem, she should be happy. She has a boyfriend, parents who care for her, and money. She doesn’t understand how hard things are for him and no one knows how hard things were for him. Getting on his skateboard, he looked at his phone and read Maya’s text to remember the directions that he had to take in order to arrive to her house on time. He was glad to hang out with someone like Maya. For one she wasn’t drama prone and two, she was actually a pretty cool girl that Zig got to know. He loved how whenever the two conversed it wasn’t about anything personal; it was about the latest games or songs that were out on the radio. Zig liked it that way. The fact that he didn’t need to open up was just fine for him, and he was fine if Maya didn’t open up to him either. Their friendship was mutual. Arriving at the house, Zig knocked on the door waiting for Maya to get it. He looked around and noticed that she had a pretty big house, something that he wished that he could live in instead of the apartment that his parents can only afford; thank god that he was the only child. Otherwise he’ll probably be stuck living with his grandparents. As Maya opened the door, a smile formed upon the boy’s lips. “Hey,” he answered. “I’m not late, I showed up on time.” Entering the house, Zig had his hands in his pockets looking around, “You guys have a nice place,” he complimented. “So what are we going to go over? Unless study partner was secret code for let’s just hang out and get to know one another.”
    Maya rolled her eyes. “Maybe I should teach you how to read time?” poked Maya, fighting her grin as she stepped aside, allowing him inside. The compliment caught her by surprise. She looked at her surroundings. She didn’t live in a mansion, but she was lucky. “Thanks! Um, sorry you’re just now coming over?” She turned away to lead him into the house, heading towards the living room. She stopped short in front of the coffee table as he spoke. Something short of a blush crept across her cheeks as she peered over her shoulder at him. “I mean, if you want to study we can, but…” A new smile crept to her lips as she turned her body to face his. She knew in the back of her head that she needed to study or do something to better her grades, especially with school reports coming out, and Katie ready to kill her. At the remembrance of her absent sister, Maya’s face grew warmer. “I told you my dad was out, right? Katie’s not here either.” She gave a quick gesture around the house to explain that it was empty. She shrugged and said, “House is empty, so we can talk or whatever. Who wants to do English, anyway?” As she words came out, she could practically hear Katie’s lecture about Maya not living up to her potential, but it was hard for her to care. Maya didn’t care about much anymore – although right now, she did care about talking to Zig. She didn’t always know what to say to him at first, but she usually felt at ease once the conversation eased on. Zig was never into talking about family or anything, but that was more than okay with her at this point. Maya’s family was nothing worth discussing at this point. “Do you want anything to eat or drink?” Maya nodded to her couch. “You can sit, too, you know.”
“Well if I wanted to learn time then I could have learned it while I was in class but I didn’t. Besides, who needs time when you have all the time in the world to do practically almost anything?” Walking into the living room, Zig stared at the decorations and the pictures everywhere. He could see a ton of Maya, some older man who was probably her brother, and very little of the girl who was probably her sister. Staring at the television, his eyes widened. He never saw a television this big. “Woah, how did you guys get this?” he asked, surprised. “Does your dad work at some fancy job or?” Staring at her, he laughed a bit because she told him that they didn’t have to study. “I guess since you don’t want to study you can just copy some of my homework.” Opening his backpack, Zig took out the homework that he already had filled out for the classes that they had together. Handing it to Maya, he smiled. “I’m sure that I’ll be getting A’s on all of these assignments since it wasn’t that hard to complete.” He continued to glance around, feeling more at ease since Maya was allowing him to be himself as she offered him a seat on the couch. Making his way over, Zig sat down, moving left and right as he got his bottom comfortable. “Sure, we can talk since I really think that you don’t want to study. I also saw this pizza place near by your neighborhood and I managed to win a gift card so if you want pizza it’s my treat.” Zig felt like he needed to give Maya something since he wanted their hangout session to be fun. Even though he wasn’t going to tell her that someone purchased it and dropped it on the ground. “Anyway, I didn’t know you had an older brother and sister.”
    Maya gave a soft laugh. She tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear and dropped her gaze. “Oops, you caught me,” she chuckled. She was laughing it off, but it was true. She didn’t want to write out answer sheets or work on their review. School wasn’t really clicking for her, anyway. It bothered her to hear someone offering to let her copy their work, but when she looked back up and found Zig smiling, something inside eased. It vanished at the mention of her father. “It’s not that fancy,” she said and looked over at the television. She shrugged his reaction off. “He does work a lot though,” she mumbled under her breath. She wasn’t talking about working at his actual job, but Zig didn’t have to know that, right? Maya walked around the coffee table and dropped onto the couch beside him. “Oh, you’re gonna get me dinner now? Isn’t that what guys do on like, dates?” Her cheeks flushed again at the mention of the word. She looked away, feigning calmness. She didn’t know what dates consisted of. She’d never been on one, but she suspected Zig had had his fair share… “I love pizza, though,” she continued, hoping he didn’t notice her red cheeks. She was too awkward for this. “Only if it’s cheese,” she added. Maya leaned closer to the table and flipped the books shut since they wouldn’t be needing them. “Seth and Katie?” Maya looked up at the pictures on their mantle. “Seth is a lot older. And Katie… You don’t know Katie?” Maya turned to him, not bothering to hide her disbelief. “Wow. Everyone knows Katie. I’m the unimportant Matlin.” Maya laughed again, but it was true. Nobody cared about her in comparison to her older sister. She ran a hand over her notebook before slowly leaning back, sitting level with Zig on the couch. “Um, do you have siblings?”
Zig traced Maya’s expressions as she talked about her father, he assumed from the fact that she didn’t answer fondly about him that it was simply best to drop the subject because he didn’t want Maya to get irritated over the fact that he knew that something was wrong. He laughed at her because she wasn’t use to acting like this; he could tell that Maya was someone who hardly had boys over by the way her cheeks would turn a shade of red. He didn’t mind this because to him, this just meant that Maya was simply enjoying his company and he was enjoying hers. “Glad you love pizza, let me just order us a pie or two,” reaching for his phone, Zig used the signal that he had to go onto Safari and made his way for the pizza place’s website. Placing the orders, he took out the gift card and filled everything out that was needed. Once he was done he placed the phone onto the coffee table and turned his attention back to her, “Good. The pizza will be here in fifteen minutes, I hope you can work an appetite by then,” he started as he poked her stomach gently. “I can feel it growling, have you not eaten all day?” he asked, a smile forming from his gentle lips as he got up and made his way towards the radio they had which was a part of their DVD system. “You don’t mind if I play some music while we wait right?” Zig waited for a moment as he lowered the volume looking for a good radio station. Stopping at the classic rock station, the song Photography by Def Leppard started playing. “Oooo! I love this song, you should come dance with me for a bit.” Making his way over, Zig grabbed Maya from the couch and gave her a little twirl. He was enjoying their little hangout session more and more. There was something about Maya and he couldn’t place what it was. “Oh, look what you’ve done to this rock ‘n’ roll clown,” he sang, “Oooh, look what you’ve done.”
    Maya recoiled in response to his touch, giggling as she swatted his hand away from her stomach. She gave him a small shove in the shoulder as she moved past him at the same time that he advanced towards the radio. She watched him from over her shoulder and smirked. “Guess not?” Maya’s shoulders rose and fell in a shrug as she started to lower herself to the couch, but the music was already playing by the time she finished the words. Before she could respond to what was happening, Zig had taken hold of her and spun her around. It was quick and clumsy, and she started laughing wildly as he spun her back to face him. “Wow, you’re wild, huh?” she called to him over the rather loud music. She made a point to hold on to the hand he had used to spin her with, tightening her grip on it as she looked up at him from under her eyelashes. She paused for a moment, realizing the closeness of their bodies, and then abruptly moved back. She forced a flustered smile. “Do you sing like that to all the girls, Zig?” she joked. “Maybe you should rethink a more romantic song?” Maya laughed at herself and glanced down at their joined hands. She looked back up at him. Her words were a joke, but for the first time she found herself wondering if Zig really did do this with girls… Girls that weren’t Maya, of course. “I want to pick a song!” She slowly pulled away from his touch and went to the radio, scanning the stations until she heard Cyndi Lauper’s loud voice. She turned to face Zig as “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” beat out through the stereo. She raised her hands over her hands and shimmied around a little bit, the most amount of dancing she knew how to do. She was laughing so hard she had forgotten to be embarrassed.
Zig pouted when she asked him if he sang to all of the other girls, shaking his head he titled it and answered Maya’s question. “Not really, I don’t sing around other people thank you very much. I feel like with you that I can since we both appreciate music.” He then eyed Maya as she went to change the radio station and Cyndi Lauper’s voice was on air. “Oooh, now I can’t dance to this. I’m not a girl, last time I checked I don’t have any boobs,” he joked as he smiled at Maya as she continued dancing. Zig then started moving around a bit, moving his head at each downbeat that the song played. As the song finished, he started listening into the next song that was transitioning. “Oh wow, this song has a much more romantic vibe to it,” he stated as Air Supply’s Even the Nights Are Better was now starting to play. Staring at Maya, he then laughed, “This dance is a slow dance, got it?” Making his way over towards the girl, he allowed for his hands to grab hers gently and brought her close to him. “Follow my lead,” he told her as he started leading their dance. Throughout the dance, Zig felt himself becoming more comfortable with Maya; he didn’t know that their study session would ever end up like this. Without realizing it, Zig felt himself trip on his feet, as he fell down onto the ground he hand Maya in his arms, making sure that when she fell down with him that she wouldn’t get hurt. Zig as he opened his eyes, stared into Maya’s eyes. He could feel his cheeks starting to turn red a bit as he didn’t move. For about a minute, he stared at her, which was until the doorbell rang along with the sound of tea kettle whistling in the background. “Did you make tea or anything…?” he asked.
    Maya rolled her eyes and dropped her hands from over her hands. “What do you boobs have to do with it? This is good music!” she laughed just as the song was changing. She glanced back at the radio, and when she had turned back to face him, he was already pulling her closer. She fumbled for something to say but stayed quiet instead, looking up at Zig as he swayed her from side to side. Her attention was so focused on how close he was that when he stumbled onto her, she didn’t even realize until they were both on the ground. She stared up at him with wide eyes and smiled to herself when she saw him turning red. Her heart hammered in her chest. Maya had no idea what to do with him atop her, but she knew she didn’t want him to move. Maya jumped at the sound of the doorbell and tea kettle. “No, no,” Maya fumbled, shaking herself out of the daze and cursing the interruption. She awkwardly moved herself out from beneath Zig and ran to the door. She dismissed the delivery man in annoyance and took the box of pizza, thankful it wasn’t Katie instead, and then ran to pull the bubbling pot off the stove. Maya took a minute to pull herself together. She walked back into the living room and dropped the pizza back on the coffee table. She fixed her hair, trying to hide how annoyed she was. “I, um… Pizza’s here!” She laughed awkwardly. She opened the box and then glanced at Zig. “I, uh, guess you were saved by the bell just then, huh?” Saved from that awkward moment, is what she meant. It was stupid of her to expect anything else but friendship from Zig at this point, despite how he made her feel. “I’ll get some plates,” she mumbled and tripped towards the kitchen, returning with two paper plates and avoiding eye contact with her company, her face hot with embarrassment.
    Zig watched as Maya rushed to get the door, grabbing the pizza, hoping that the pizza man would leave on time so that she could tend to the tea kettle. He slowly made his way up and brushed himself off. He didn’t mind what happened at that moment, he really actually felt a connection between the two but he decided not to do anything, at least for now since the moment they already had was awkward enough. “Nah, I didn’t mind the position we were in…I mean, it was comfortable that I was lying down instead of being on my feet. I’m just glad that you were okay and didn’t get hurt in the fall,” he answered. Watching Maya as she went to get the plates, Zig looked into his bag, reaching for a mixed CD he made earlier since he wanted to give her some of the music that he listened to. As Maya came out with the plates, Zig made his way over grabbing one, “Thanks. Oh yeah, I left a CD on the coffee table for you. It’s a mix of all the songs that I listen to. I figured since you were into music that you’d enjoy it. Tori, my ex, never liked the music that I listened to. She was always a pop music kind of girl. Anyway enough about her, let’s dig in and enjoy the atmosphere we have going on.” He hoped when he mentioned Tori that she didn’t assume that he still had feelings for her. He was clearly over her and wished Tori nothing but the best. Except for the fact that he was still irritated that she blamed him for the reason why she was starting to go on a diet. Grabbing himself three slices of pizza, he made his way over towards the couch and sat down, taking a bite of the cheesy goodness. Silence filled the air; he didn’t know if it was because of what happened or that mentioning Tori made Maya kind of uncomfortable. Zig really enjoyed Maya and felt a connection with her but he didn’t know if Maya felt the same connection as he was feeling.
    Maya glanced at Zig hesitantly. “I didn’t get hurt because you protected me in the fall,” she said and looked away again. She tried to speak jokingly, but she was serious. Zig being some knight in shining armor wasn’t helping her discomfort or the anxious feeling inside. She was just about to take a bite when he mentioned the CD, and she looked quickly at the coffee table beside the box of pizza. She stared at the CD while he spoke, only looking up when she heard Tori’s name. She nodded slowly. A smile reached her lips; she was too stunned that he had brought her a gift that she didn’t even know what to say. Despite her happiness, she convinced herself not to get her hopes up and looked away. Atmosphere? What kind of atmosphere? A good one? “I’m still sorry about the… um, position.” She was just making it worse. Maya nibbled on a slice of pizza while she obsessed over his words. If she were the opposite of his ex-girlfriend, and he was willing to sacrifice his time to sit at her house, surely there was something he saw in her, right? Not wanting to seem weird, she grabbed the CD and started towards the radio. “We can listen to it now, right?” she asked. She flipped the case over. It was a clear sleeve with no track list, so… Maya bit her lip and looked at him. “If you had to pick one song for me to listen to on this, which track would it be?” she asked, hoping his answer would give her a clue to how he felt towards her.
   “Yeah, I’m feeling a good atmosphere, and don’t be sorry. It’s okay, really Maya, it’s okay.” He gave her a reassuring smile to let her know that everything was alright. Zig continued eating his first slice of pizza as he enjoyed the company he had. Clearly something was there if she wanted to hang out with him when she could have asked someone else to help her out with school. His eyes focused on her hands as she waved the CD in front of him, asking if they could listen to the CD now instead of the radio. Zig nodded, giving her a quick smile, “Yeah of course, it’s your CD now, not mine. So if you prefer listening to the CD right now over the radio, then go ahead. I think whatever decision you make is absolutely fine by me.”  Noticing that she was suggesting for him to pick a favorite track, Zig pondered about the songs that he picked. “I would say number seven, it’s more of a soft song rather than heavy and I think that you would really love it. I’m not sure if you ever heard of Tyrone Wells but I really love his music. I listen to him whenever I’m trying to get a paper done for English, that way I have something to keep me focused. The song is called Satellite if you’re curious,” he answered.
    Maya smiled and nodded, turning back towards the radio. She placed the CD inside and fiddled with the controls, skipping tracks until she reached the appropriate number. When the song started playing, she set the CD case down atop the radio and started back towards Zig. “This is pretty,” she agreed as she stood in front of him for a minute. She slowly moved around him and took a seat on the couch beside him, the sleeve of her shirt brushing his. The song genuinely surprised her, more so because she didn’t expect him from Zig. She paused long enough to listen to what the lyrics were actually about. She didn’t know that it had really helped, but she knew she liked the song. She liked the whole idea of the CD he’d given her. “This is definitely better. And more romantic.” Maya laughed and turned her head to look at him as she grabbed her slice of pizza from the table. “I didn’t expect this kind of music to come for Zig Novak. I like it, though.” She took a bite before adding softly, “Kind of how I like you.” She didn’t know what she was saying or what exactly she was admitting to, or where it would lead – especially with the impending return of her sister – but she left the decision of what would be done up to Zig.
Zig waited patiently for her to start listening to the song. He really worked hard on this playlist and wanted to find songs that she would like, as well as songs that reminded him of her. Zig didn’t know how Maya would react to the song, because for one, it was different, and for two, it was sweet and he wanted to tell her how he really felt. Music was Zig’s way of always expressing his emotions, even when he had trouble admitting the truth sometimes. Once the song ended, he felt his heart beating, waiting for a response. He didn’t know whether or not if Maya was going to enjoy the song or if the song was going to make things worse between the two. His eyes widened at the fact that she actually enjoyed the song and how she liked it because she liked him. Zig could feel his hands starting to sweat and it wasn’t because he was uncomfortable. All of the sudden, he could feel himself getting nervous within her presence. He would have never expected Maya to requite the feelings that he was currently feeling for her. “I’m glad that you think that,” Zig moved his face and felt his nose touch hers. “Because I feel the same way about you Maya,” he leaned in close, giving her a gentle kiss on the lips. He allowed himself to take a moment and enjoy how soft her lips were against his, how everything felt absolutely right and there was no one there to stop this moment. For once, Zig finally felt at ease.
    Maya looked up at Zig to search his face, unsure of what his long stare meant. She could hear her pulse penetrating her temples as she waited. Everything seemed to slow down around her – all she could see was Zig’s face, his eyes staring blankly into hers. His words came out so fast, catching her off guard. She flinched slightly as his face came closer. She’d barely had time to catch her breath before she felt his mouth on hers. It was Maya’s first real kiss. She froze up at first, but a second lately she was pushing back and moving her lips to return the kiss, stunned and euphoric by the touch of his lips. She didn’t know how long the kiss lasted or how who broke it, but when it was over, she found herself staring at him with wide eyes. As the euphoria slipped, she grew confused. “You– you what?” she stuttered, blinking back her bewilderment. She swallowed, her mouth swollen from the kiss. She didn’t know what had just happened. She didn’t believe that this was Zig, that he’d just kissed her. “You like me?” Maya searched his face. Her emotions were wired, but she didn’t know if it were her feelings towards Zig or just the need to feel something. She just knew she hadn’t felt comfort since the death of her mother, and now she found Zig. “But what does that mean?” she asked, leaning away from him. It was a question for herself and for Zig. She looked at him nervously, her face red. “What does that mean for us?” Maya used her finger to gesture between the two of them.
    Zig pulled back from the kiss, it was everything he had wanted. For once it didn’t feel force or it wasn’t because he was being just a boy. He could still feel his face, red from the kiss that he had with Maya. He assumed by the way she reacted that it was either her first kiss or that he simply caught her off guard. Zig wasn’t one to ask someone about their previous dating experience because he felt like that wasn’t needed and that it can simply offend someone since a lot of people seem to be closed about their dating life. “Yeah, I like you Maya, a lot.” Zig moved his hand and allowed it to intertwine with her fingers, giving a gentle squeeze, a loose smile formed. “You’re smart, funny, cute, and you’re different. You’re not like the other girls Maya, and I really like that about you. It’s like you actually have a personality going on and whenever you tell me a story I have to listen because it’s interesting.” He really meant it when he called her different from the other girls. While most girls in his grade worried about their looks, hair, and the latest trends Maya just simply cared about feeling comfortable. That was one thing that Zig really looked for when it came to girls, confidence. It didn’t matter who the girl was, if they were confident, he liked it. Hearing upon the status of where they stand, Zig smiled. “Well, I like you, and you like me, so maybe we can make this official?” he asked. He was allowing her to make the call, while looking at the time, because he didn’t know whether or not Katie was going to be entering the door soon. “I’m ready if you’re ready.”
    Maya felt lightheaded – it was like all the blood had rushed out of her head, and she didn’t know how to process what was happening. It’d been so long that she’d felt anything happy that she almost felt the need to reject it. She opened her hand to allow him to hold it, staring down at their intertwining fingers. “I’m not that great,” she said hastily. Her heart skipped a beat with everything he said. She ran a free hand through her hand and looked back at him, her smile spreading to her eyes. “That’s how you’re supposed to feel, right? About the person you’re with?” she asked slowly, reasoning with herself that this was okay. It was okay to be happy; it was okay to feel something good. It was okay that it was with Zig, right? But her eyes widened at the word: official. He was asking her to be his girlfriend – to be with him. She felt her heart drop to her stomach. She searched his face, her mouth agape, and then she followed his eyes to the clock. Katie. She knew Katie wouldn’t be pleased to walk on this – not after the stunt she had pulled when she ran off from her cello lesson and disappeared for the night – but she didn’t care. Maya looked back at Zig. “I’ve never done this before,” she admitted. “I’ve never been with anyone, and I…” She didn’t want to scare him away by admitting everything else. How she was letting herself fall apart, how messed up she had become. Her voice grew weak. “Are you sure? Are you really sure this is what you want?”
    Zig stared at her in the eye; he didn’t know whether or not that she was going to reject his offer. He never seen her like this, she was fighting off something that he didn’t know what was going on. He wished he knew but he decided that he wasn’t on that ground level with Maya yet to at least ask what was going on with her. He could tell how scared she was, this was definitely a new experience for her. He didn’t know what to do, because he didn’t want her to be upset, he didn’t like it when someone was upset because then he didn’t know how to react. Reaching over he grabbed her and hugged her, making sure that she was okay. “Of course Maya, this is what I want. I want you and only you.” He continued to hold her in his arms, allowing himself to make sure that she was alright – for once he felt like this was his job. Zig needed to make sure that Maya, his new girlfriend was okay and that he was going to do everything in her power to make the pain go away. “I’m not going to go anywhere; I’ll make sure that you’re alright Maya. I may not know what is going on right now but in time, I will, when you’re ready.” Staring at the time it was getting late. He released the hug and got up. “I have to get going, it takes about an hour to skate back home and I don’t want my mom to worry. Talk to you tomorrow?” he asked a smile forming upon his lips as he gently kissed her forehead.
    Maya swallowed back the lump in her throat as Zig pulled her into his arms. She leaned in, resting her head on his chest. Katie hadn’t even held her like this. Nobody had, because she was constantly fighting to act like she didn’t care. But the fact that Zig could see through that had to be a sign of something, right? She fought the desire to cry and instead forced a smile, arching her back to look up at him as he cradled her. She couldn’t speak without losing it. “Thank you,” she managed, still forcing that same smile. She was happy. She was happy to have Zig. She was happy to have someone, but in the back of her mind, she knew that she was a ticking time bomb – and she knew it wasn’t fair to put Zig through that. Maya selfishly pushed those feelings aside and simply nodded. “I want you, too,” she said simply, just as he let her go. While he checked the time, Maya’s phone vibrated on the table. She didn’t have to check it to know it was Katie, no doubt on her way back. “Yeah, Katie would probably freak.” Maya didn’t explain anything else. That was for another day. She stood up and closed her eyes as Zig planted the gentle kiss on her forehead. “Yeah, at school. I’ll be there if you’ll be there,” she laughed. She took his hand and led him back towards the door, pulling it open and stepping aside for him to go. “Thank you for dinner and the CD.” Maya glanced back down at their hands before meeting his eyes. “And, um… Everything else,” she added as her cheeks flushed.
Zig smiled as he nodded, “No problem. See you tomorrow, don’t forget to copy the homework tomorrow as well, that way we both don’t get zeros on our assignments.” Turning around, he got on his skateboard, looking back at her, giving her a gentle smile before he headed home. It wasn’t a study session that they had, but he was glad that something new had formed between the two of them, and nothing was going to stand in their way.

Of course, we sit across from each other in Dawes class. Awesome, well pick whichever and I'm down for this study session. Yikes...does your dad have a busy life?
Oh, whatever, Zig!
Tumblr media
Oh, so you noticed I wasn’t around, huh? I didn’t really feel like being around people today… But um, that’s fine. The library is fine, but so is my place. My dad’s never around, anyway… Like, ever.

Keep saying that all you want but denial is a river in Egypt.That's why you weren't there. That makes a lot of sense now. Sure, we can be study buddies but if we're studying it has to be over at your place or somewhere quiet like the library. My parents don't like me having guests over...
You’re a bad friend. I’ll remember this!
Tumblr media
I’ll probably just have to end up doing it.. I already skipped school today, don’t want to add to the list by skipping homework. Want to be my study buddy?

Your Own Disaster || Zori
Zig got himself ready for his paper route, he was surprised to see Tori up so late, but he was glad that someone he knew was awake that way he was able to have a little conversation before doing his job. While conversing with Tori on tumbr, he decided that it would be nice if he brought something for her to drink since she was going to need it if she wanted to stay up through all of her classes. Hearing the sound of her breakfast, he also decided that he was going to make a quick trip to McDonalds to get them something to eat. Getting off the internet, Zig placed his phone in his backpack and headed out. Moving a strand of hair out of his face, he made his way on his bike and looked at the route that he had to take for the morning. Smiling, he noticed that there was a Starbucks but he frowned when he realized that he probably didn’t have the money to get Tori one. Shrugging the thought off, Zig started making his way through several neighborhoods, delivering papers while looking for a gas station so that he could be able to purchase himself an energy drink. About ten minutes passed as Zig arrived at the Starbucks, luckily he already made the quick stop to get himself a Rockstar otherwise he would have been behind schedule. As he made his way inside he noticed that someone leaving the store dropped their gift card. Picking it up, Zig looked at the women leaving and decided that he was going to take it that way he had enough money to pay for the drink. Entering he got Tori what she wanted but in a Venti. “Next stop, McDonalds.” Making his way over towards McDonalds, Zig entered inside and ordered them some Sausage McMuffins and Hash browns. Luckily Zig had enough coupons to get plenty of food. Finally, after about five minutes of peddling he made it to the last block which was Tori’s block. Peddling he decided to deliver all the papers first before conversing with Tori. Making it to Tori’s house he noticed that she was dozing off, he laughed quietly to himself because he didn’t expect her to be asleep. Getting off his bike he walked over and poked her gently on the forehead, “Wake up sleepy head,” he said softly as he waited for a response.
Tori couldn't help but to fall into a bit of a slumber as she patiently waited. She tried to stay awake, especially after Cam announced to the Internet that she snored in her sleep, so that Zig wouldn't hear it and make a comment on it as well. Her brows furrowed together and she sleepily swatted Zig's hand away, her eyes slowly opening to see just what was interrupting her light sleep. "What the...” she mumbled before finally realizing who it was. "Oh God, sorry, I didn't mean to," Tori quickly apologized as she shook her head. She pulled her legs up closer to her body and offered him a smile. "But good morning, paper boy," she teased, her smile widening. Patting the spot beside her for the younger boy to sit, she adjusted her body so that she could face him directly. "Zig, I told you... You didn't have to go out of your way for that stuff," she told him as she eyed the bag of food and the large Starbucks cup he was carrying. Shit. Tori bit down on the inside of her cheek as she contemplated what to even do. Did she accept the food and just tell him to go home and ditch it? He would have wasted money on her to just throw everything away and she would have felt bad. Did she tell him that she wasn't hungry and that he could eat it all? He probably wouldn't believe her, it was Zig after all and he'd known her for long enough that he could see through her lies. Or did she just bite the bullet and slowly eat her parts of the food until Zig was done and gone, and get rid of what was left of the food later? It seemed like the only plausible option at this point - which Tori didn't like. She quietly sighed as she looked at the paper bag filled with God knows how many calories. Taking the Frappuccino from his hands, she curiously rose one of her brows at him. "You didn't have to," she repeated, taking a small sip from the cold drink. Tori did appreciate the act, considering Zig never really got her anything for the month that they dated in junior high or even before that when they were just friends. "I'm not really that hungry so I'm just going to eat some of it... You can have all the rest, though. Do you want me to pay you back in case you get in trouble or something?"
Zig kept poking her as he waited for a response; he was hoping that she wouldn’t wake up all irritated at the fact that he was poking her. Seeing her swat his hand away, Zig laughed because it was a typical reaction that she did whenever she was starting to fall asleep in class. As Tori finally opened her eyes Zig smiled widely, “It’s okay Tor. You always did this whenever you were really tired in class; I’m used to knowing how you react. We had almost every class together at junior high so I do know you quite well.” He patiently waited for Tori to take the drink and some of the food from the bag, his eyebrows furrowed when he noticed it was taking longer than usual for Tori to even grab the items. She was never like this from what he remembered but then again he never did really get anything for her since he didn’t have the heart to tell her that he couldn’t afford anything. He was just glad that he got this job so that he could at least have some of the things that other kids had, even if it’ll take him months to get it used. He eyed her movements and gestures as she grabbed the Frappuccino from his hand and thanked him. “I wanted to get you something because I figured since we were up really early there was no point of sleeping. Besides even if we tried getting some sleep it’ll only be for an hour or so otherwise we’ll be late for school.” Watching her take a sip, he waited for her to grab the food out of the McDonald’s bag. “Tori, you should eat something otherwise your food will get cold.” Hearing her tell him that she wasn’t really hungry he knew that something was up. “Tori, I remember when Tristan would bring you Tim Bits that you would scarf them down. What makes a Sausage McMuffin and a hash brown different? You don’t need to pay me back, this one is on me but I need to know. What’s with the whole being self-conscious with what you eat. Because the Tori I know wouldn’t eat a smoothie, she would have a bowl of fruit with some yogurt. Tor…this isn’t like you at all and I’m starting to get worried…”
Tori bit down on her lip as Zig began talking about junior high, fighting the stupid grin from forming on her lips. A lot had changed since they both came to Degrassi, things ultimately became more complicated than she had imagined. "And you and your stupid friends always bugged me until we started dating," she laughed, rolling her eyes at the memory. Tori began to carefully pick at the food, only taking small pieces of it to bring to her lips as Zig began telling her to eat. She slowly brought the food away from her as he went on; knowing whatever bullshit she fed him would more than likely be ignored. "I'm not self-conscious with what I eat... I just... I have to eat healthy because of my pageants and McDonald's isn't the healthiest option in the world when it comes to food," Tori muttered, attempting to swallow the growing lump in her throat. Zig was a lot smarter than people gave him credit for - at least to Tori he was. Then again, they had been science partners in grade eight so she was somewhat able to understand how his brain worked both in and outside of school. "You don't have to worry, I'm fine Zig...” She continued, her voice low as she tried to keep the lie going. Tori sighed as she avoided eye contact with her ex and she began running her index finger along the plastic cup that was starting to collect condensation. She could feel his eyes practically burning into her at this point. "I... You can't tell Cam, okay? He already thinks something is wrong because of what happened at school... I was...” she trailed off, taking in a breath. "I was just tired, I didn't get enough sleep or something and my body was exhausted." Swallowing once more, Tori sat the large drink down on the step in front of her. "I can't win pageants if I'm fat, Zig... You know that. The pretty, skinny girls are the ones that win and that's why I've never gotten a crown. I know it, my mom knows it... I'm just on a diet."
When she told him that she was not self-conscious of what she eats, he knew by then that something was up. He figured that it was best for him to try and get it out of her; otherwise not knowing was going to kill him. Even if they weren’t dating Zig cared about Tori’s well-being, they were friends after all. “Yeah, I get that most girls can be self-conscious sometimes but eating something bad once in a while isn’t going to kill you. Besides Tori, I know you as someone who loves to indulge on something like McDonalds for example every now and then.” Frowning he eyed Tori in the eye, staring her down, hoping that she would open up to him about what was going on. He knew that she probably wouldn’t and he didn’t blame her. The reason why he never blamed her was because he never opened up to her about him coming from a poor family and how during the summer his parents were almost going to lose their business. “Tor…” he responded as she finally answered him, “You’re not fat at all. You’re perfect. You’re pretty sexy, talented, and you catch almost every guy’s attention at school. I don’t know what made you become this conscious about your weight but it isn’t healthy. I’m worried and I hardly know Cam so why would I even bring it up with him? Besides…as his girlfriend that’s your job but you should only do it when you’re ready.” He placed the bag back into his backpack before allowing one hand to cup Tori’s face so that she would be able to look him in the eye. “Tori…you shouldn’t let your mother or other girls judge you. You always own the room from what I remember, don’t lose that confidence. Promise me that you’ll stop this diet?”
Tori could feel her cheeks burning as he complimented her and she was thankful that it wasn't light enough out so that he could see the fresh, pink color. "Don't do that right now, I'm supposed to be over you," she mumbled with a weak laugh. The last thing she needed right now was to fall into confusion with her feelings and even more relationship drama than she already had with Cam. She then clenched her jaws when Zig said he didn't understand where it had come from; maybe she had overestimated his intelligence when it came to people. Either that or she was a fantastic actor, which she wouldn't argue with. A sigh of relief escaped her lips as he said he wouldn't tell Cam and she knew that if Zig didn't spill the info then she's be safe seeing as she wasn't going to tell her boyfriend. Tori's body flinched as she felt his hand against her cheek and she unwillingly brought her glance to him just for a quick moment. She blinked away the tears forming in her eyes, making sure to avoid eye contact once again. "I'm not promising you anything," she whispered, biting down on her lip. "If I promised you, I'd be lying... So I'm not promising." Tori took in a deep, shaky breath, moving to clasp her hands together in her lap. "I never win, I can't be owning the room if I never even win anything... I get stupid sashes and then I look like a joke in the pageant world." Her fingers nervously fiddled with the fuzzy fabric of her robe and she pressed her brows together in realization. "Cam is going to dump me if I don't lose all of this weight... I know he is. I'm not stupid like I was over the summer. He's going to realize how big I am, just like you did, and then start ignoring me until I get the hint that I'm not wanted." Tori brought one of her hands up to remove Zig's from her cheek. "You don't get to tell me what to do with my body when you still don't even have the balls to tell me you left me because I was too fat," she added on, her tone growing angrier with each word. "I figured it out... But you, Zig Novak, are a huge jerk. Go find some skinny skank and have all the fun you want with her, okay?"
Zig lifted an eyebrow when she said that she was supposed to be over him, he felt bad because he was probably giving her mixed signals. Removing his hand, his eyes widened as she told him to stop. He was just trying to help her out and the fact that she wasn’t promising him anything made things worse since Zig questioned if she purged. As Tori assumed that he broke up with her over the fact that she was fat, he started to get irritated since he didn’t like it when people jumped to conclusions. He just didn’t want Tori to be burdened with all of his problems and besides Zig wanted a fresh start in high school otherwise the constant fighting all summer would have just made drama for the both of them. “I don’t think Cam is going to leave you. If he was going to leave you then he would have never even date you in the first place. Also, why would I dump you because you’re fat? That’s stupid and I hate that you think so lowly of me. Like if I’m some asshole who wanted to date you only because I felt sorry for you which wasn’t even why I dated you. I dated you Tor because you were confident and now you have nothing.” As she mentioned that he was a jerk and should find someone else to have fun with Zig was just about done here with their conversation. “Okay, I guess I shall but the thing is. I’m not attracted to girls like that Tor. I love confidence and so far you lack it. Maya Matlin has more confidence than you; maybe I should pursue her since you think you know me so well.” And with that Zig turned around and got on his bike leaving Tori alone.
