i think the greatest and most unfortunate parallel i see in the therian community that i also saw in the trans community is a certain level of identifying with the pain of species dysphoria instead of identifying with what makes you a therian. species dysphoria can fucking suck but it’s not required to be a therian, it’s never been required, it never will be, and even those who know this will still lash out at the idea that some of us find joy in also being human. i could never share my art with the world otherwise. i’m part of this badass species that builds upon technology and preserves knowledge from over a thousand years ago. we have an incredible wealth of culture and experience available to us and that’s fucking magical!!

grieve as much as you need to. grieve the fact that you’ll never quite have the life you want. if you experience this pain, it’s very real, and you need to process it. and at some point, on the other side of grief, you need to let go. let go of wishing for the life you’ll never have, and figure out what you can do with the one you’re living, to bring it more in line with your authentic animal self. don’t take this chance for granted. this body is capable of many wonderful things. i felt the same joy about being trans when i recognized that this experience gives me a unique perspective on the world—and i realized that, had i gone through a different puberty, been raised as the other binary gender, i still would’ve been trans. i would’ve gone on estrogen. i would’ve pushed myself through the black morass of grief, discovering along the way that i’m in charge of becoming who i want to be. i would’ve found joy.

miss being in the mud and silt and still waters of my wetlands. i have no name, save for the concept of "self" in my mind. weaving between the cyprus roots, careful to mind my neighbors. the alligators and i, we mind our own business. sometimes we sun on the rocks together. and the egrets and herons, they stare at me when i perch up on the cyprus knees. and then we look away and continue our business. there is spanish moss in the trees. and the bugs are loud, but it is wonderful because they are alive and so am i.

you're nonhuman in ways you've never even thought about. remember how you stalk around in the darkness instead of fumbling about like a night-blind creature? remember the weird eating habits, the cravings for raw meat? i'm sure you remember trying to mimic the speech mannerisms of your friends in conversation. how could you forget? you're not just "weird." you're not human. and that's okay.

the asset from "the shape of water" with a dark blue or green theme. green would be preferred, but i really don't mind blue, either.

if green, i'd like the focus to be on a swampy/wetland feel. if blue, some deep ocean stuff! just overall a murky, dark vibe to it.

i'd also be fine with you using abe sapien from "hellboy" (2019) or the gillman from "creature from the black lagoon!"

i don't! well, not in the traditional sense, at least. being a gillman means that there are significantly less gear options for me.

what i do instead, is just wear a lot of green. I have 10+ articles of clothing that are the same shade of green. and I do my best to not wear green on green but it has happened. i'm talking shirts, pants, shorts, jackets. all of it. i could be layered completely in green.

people are shocked when i dont wear it. i'm wearing it right now! it makes me feel like myself. because when i look down or look at myself in a mirror, i'm the right color!

introduction

howdy, and welcome! i'm amadeus. i'm an aromantic lesbian and use s/he and his/hers only. no they/them. my main blog is @actualamadeus, so if you see that name around, its me!

i am a gillman and alien psychological otherkin/copinglink. while my alien 'type is very important to me, this blog will be focused mainly around my gillman 'type, due to it being a lot more concrete and less abstract than my alien 'type. some alien stuff may pop up, but it wont be the majority of my content.

while i am not fictionkin, i do use a lot of visuals from "the shape of water," "creature from the black lagoon," and "hellboy." i consider myself a sort of cladokin, and see myself deeply in most depictions of gillmen. i also consider myself cousins/distantly related to many of the other gillmen/fishmen otherkin i meet.

i'm self dx audhd and have misophonia. between this and how heavily my kintype ties into my mentality, i may be a little skittish sometimes. i prefer to lurk in the dark and watch, when things spook me i completely withdraw from everything. because of this, i may suddenly disappear from DM's sometimes. don't take it personally- it just happens with me sometimes.

i have no dni, but i do not interact with anyone who supports, encourages, or harbors an identity or mentality that is harmful to themselves or others (be it physically, mentally, or otherwise) and/or who denounce or do not encourage recovery, healthy coping mechanisms, and harm reduction. all good-faith identities are welcome here. yes, this includes mspec lesbians and lesboys (i am one of these, anyway) and whatever twt and tiktok are always freaking out about.

had a shift while driving, specifically on my arms! which doesn't happen too much. Felt some real vivid fins along the back of my hands and arms, so I might be editing my appearance a little bit. They're still there (along with the ones down my head/neck) and feel just like the other ones i have, so I'm pretty sure thats whats going on. very interesting!
