colors were pulled from the intersex flag. cats were colored dark purple (black) and orange to show the fusion of two embryos!

created by @cogwork-orthodoxy, i just cleaned up and posted the flag for it!

agenital is a term used to describe intersex individuals with aspects of the genitals that are not visible or absent.

black represents absence. blue represents wholeness; despite lacking aspects of the body that people deem "necessary" people on the agenital spectrum are still whole and complete. green represents absence and nature, because [we were born this way, and we arent going to disappear]! the black circle was chosen from the intersex pride flag and represents wholeness in its original meaning.

the part of intersex experience that is rarely discussed is all the difficulties with urinating and sexual/related activities. some of which may be caused by variations themselves and some may be caused by igm.

anatomy and physiology of variations itself, nerve damage from igm, poor results of igm because doctors care more about creating typical look than about quality of life, ptsd and its psychosomatic effects, and more stuff.

also co-occuring conditions! because some intersex variations have increased rates of kidney & urinal tract anomalies.

but we can't talk about it because 1) the topics themselves are stigmatized; 2) intersex bodies are seen as gross and weird and "too much"; 3) every our word can be twisted in "that's why intersex variations are actually always medical problems and should be 'corrected'."

like for me these issues are the part of intersexness that is constantly on my nose but i can't even talk about it without extreme shame and fear. and i spend years thinking that it's all my fault.

hypospadias is the phenomenon in which someone is born with a urethra below where it is expected to be. the most commonly known type of hypospadias is penile hypospadias, in which someones urethra opens on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip, but there are many other types. persistent urogenital sinus in those with a vaginal canal is also a type of hypospadias.

green was chosen for nature. the structure of the flag was chosen to show the diversity in urethral placement. orange was chosen for congenital adrenal hyperplasia, the most common cause of persistent urogenital sinus. blue was chosen for penile hypospadias, as the cause is commonly unknown.

breast hypoplasia is an umbrella term for the phenomenon in which someones breasts do not develop enough breast tissue to support the breasts structure. there are multiple different kinds of breast hypoplasia.

a triangle and circle was chosen to show a variation in shapes (as breast hypoplasia is incredibly variable). green was chosen for nature. purple was chosen as a neutral color, as breast hypoplasia can occur in anyone. peach was chosen for awareness of how this can affect child rearing, as breast hypoplasia can affect breastfeeding. white was chosen for neutrality.

The outer stripes are a teal blue, the second inner stripes are a muted purple, the third inner stripes are an olive green, and the middle stripe is white. Blue for unity, purple for harmony, green for nature, white for wholeness, yellow for diversity + the sunflower due to it's complex reproductive morphology (bisexual plant that can be incomplete/complete and perfect/imperfect) that reflects the diverse variations in sex characteristics amongst those who have ambiguous genitals.

vent (IGM/intersexism)

i just feel... gross. angry. enraged, honestly. going through life having had my body changed as a young child when its very clear it wasnt what i wanted. having parts of myself missing, stolen from me. and then being an older teen and an adult, and having that experience be treated like it holds any basis on who i am and who i was meant to be. that my assigned sex binds me or that i should be forced to abide by it, when it was forced upon my androgynous body. people acting as if my assigned sex is something that affected my life, when what actually affected my life was the surgeries i went through, the constant bigotry and othering i went through. the letter didnt matter, what they did to force me into that letter mattered. i dont hide it out of shame, but out of the fact i know that people would treat that letter as more important than my experiences and selfhood. even as an adult whos trying to put back together the pieces, people are still trying to shove you into that box.

ambiguous genitalia pride flag

ambiguous genitalia is genitalia which is not able to be clearly identified as "male" or "female." in intersex people, this can be caused by any number of variations, including CAH, PAIS, chromosomal variation, etc.

green was chosen to represent nature and neutrality. a hibiscus was chosen due to hibiscuses being common symbols of beauty and happiness. they are also a bisexual flower!

*this flag is intended to be used by those who are intersex and have ambiguous genitalia from birth or for those whos ambiguous genitalia developed without the use of medications or surgery. those who have experienced IGM or have had bottom surgery after the fact are completely free to use this flag. the parameters of "ambiguous genitalia" is very vague, so if you feel it fits, it fits! not intended for those who have developed genital ambiguity due to exogenous HRT usage or bottom surgery.
