THE CITY AND THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT

Urbanism.  The City and the Built Environment, Spring 2015. Part II.

Grade: 9/10 (First Class Honours)

Proposal for a new public space in Tielmes. 

In collaboration with Nieves Gómez. 

The given plot was divided in two different parts. The one modified by Gonzalo de Juan consisted on an abandoned house with its backyard, as well as some space behind the kindergarten, which can be seen in the center of the image above. 

The proposal’s aim is to provide a new recreational area to the village of Tielmes, where is located. The house (in ruins) is converted into a multipurpose venue, capable of being used, for example, as an open air cinema in the summer. The two other main interventions are the urban orchard and a new playground area in the upper level. In the upper level we can also find a new viewing point looking at the Tajuña river.

Special attention was paid to accesibility, so that a network of ramps and stairs allows disabled people to move through the entire area, as well as to access this public space from different streets.
