Plymouth MN, home of a new Thai/French Fusion restaurant. Yes! 15 mins away for me, win! It’s not a large place, but it is very cozy. I’ve tried only 1 dish so far, and I give that a thumbs up. Go!

So we just stumbled onto Victor’s, a Cuban restaurant right across from Rincon38. This is a wonderful confluence of Spanish/Cuban foods in South Minneapolis. The atmosphere inside is cozy, with fun music and 1950′s decor to add to ambience. We only tried the desserts so far, but looking forward to trying out the rest of the menu, including the best breakfast according to Mpls/St. Paul magazine.

Rincon 38. Their tagline: “We’re fun neighborhood tapas bar offering a great selection of old world wines by the glass & bottle, as well as rotating craft beers on tap and in the bottle.” Their tapas plates are large, I recommend any of their meats: steak, pork chops, lamb chops. Seafood paella is not as good for the price. Definitely worth a try if you are looking for a Spanish tapas experience in Twin Cities.

Arepa (wikipedia), corn cakes stuffed with yummy fillings such as shredded beef or pork. You can get it in Minneapolis in a food truck (Hola Arepa). Now you can find a permanent Arepa serving restaurant in Eden Prairie, called Teque Arepa, and other Venezuelan yummies such as Empanadas (see menu). It's on Flying Cloud Dr near 212 interchange, kinda hard to find in a strip mall, very inexpensive ($2-$7 a dish), and worth a visit. Take a look at some of the reviews on the web, including this on Heavy Table blog.

Art museum or restaurant? A little of both, perhaps? This is the interior to Bacio, a local restaurant with focus on "real human connection and locally inspired food prepared with love, care and creativity". Marketing spin aside, the food was artistically laid out, a generous portion, slightly pricy but worth a visit to west metro (Minnetonka/Ridgedale area).

On MPR, there was a segment on cheap eats in Twin Cities. Rachel Hutton of Minnesota Monthly was interviewed on MPR News: Appetites: Cheap Eats in Twin Cities. It talks about Thai, Indian, Mexican, Hmong, and a couple of recommendations for nice sit-down places with specific food choices. Recommended read.
