We have just installed a huge system for our farm which needs to be 100% off grid, cope with an 80+ square home, sheds and pool etc but the house will be 100 metres from the solar outfit. Anthony Migilan went to extreme lengths to work out what they could do and how they would do it and most importantly the first person able to explain what we would get for the money (others couldn't). Anthony is professional, courteous and friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. We were so impressed with Anthony's presentation we went with Sky Energy. The installers were also really nice guys and worked like Trojans throughout the job, k and were also friendly and knowledgeable. They promised they would be finished on a certain date and even stayed well after dark to keep to the timeline.   Very impressed from the start to the finish. We will be getting them to do further work once the house is up. Would recommend them to everyone.😁

A lot of people are starting to move away from the grid, and even those that aren't planning to leave still want to make some changes for the greater good. There are some pretty amazing ways to live off the grid from cheap farm land and other resources. These are just a few examples of how you can use your own home or property to generate energy with solar and become completely independent from the power companies.

You may think that this is something complicated, but it isn’t. It’s as simple as getting solar panels installed on your property and connecting them to the power source you have, in this case, it’s your battery bank. The solar panels convert the power that they receive into energy you can use. You store the energy you generate in a battery and use it for heating, cooling, lights, pumps and general appliances.

When you're living off the grid, you control all of the aspects of your life. You can decide what and how much power you want to use and the energy that you produce and how you get it to where you need it. One major advantage is that you can live off the grid without ever touching power lines or using any other energy sources for that matter. You don't have to worry about paying a monthly bill or dealing with the rising costs of energy. You will be completely independent of the grid.

The solar panels on the roof of the shed charge the batteries in the cabinet and they supply off grid power to the shed.

When it comes to going off the grid you need to size up your solar and batteries according to your power usage. Doing this will allow you to be self sufficient and not rely on using your generator to charge up the batteries when there is not enough solar.

The generator is the last line of backup and is used when you go through a couple of days of bad weather. It charges up the batteries so that you can continue to live with off grid power.

Over the last few years i have attempted to gain a clear response to my questions over solar. Particularly going off grid and what i would need to be self sufficient. After numerous conversations with other companies, and no clear answer which only added to my confusion i came across Sky Energy. I spoke with one of the office staff who put me onto the off grid guru Anthony. He answered my questions and talked to me, and not at me. He explained the system I would need and the batteries that i would need and how it would work. Some companies inundate you with calls trying to force you into signing up with them. Anthony listened especially when i said to give me time to look into things. This i highly respected and when i was ready i called to get things going. Off-grid shed in regional town Whittlesea.

This shed is being powered by a full off grid system as the cost for bringing in the electrical services out weighed the cost of an off grid solar system.

The shed becomes the power plant and it will also power the house once its built.

Portable cottage in small rural town Tolmie goes off-grid!

You can see from the photos that the cottage was delivered and craned into place. The solar panels have been mounted flush on the roof top whilst the remaining off grid equipment has been installed on the rear decking of the cottage. A pergola is being built to protect the equipment and keep it dry.

NOTE: The equipment is designed to be stored under a roof in a dry location.

Living off grid is possible!

Hi, I’m Anthony, the creator of, go off grid dot com dot au

I got into solar and off grid a few years ago, when I was asked to drive out and see a couple living in the gippsland south coast. After sitting down and having a meaningful conversation with this couple, who were in fact still connected to the grid. Told me they were having some serious problems with constant blackouts and said we can't keep living like this. We need to do something fast. 

I put together an off grid system for them. They told me Anthony we love it, we want what you have to show us and want to go off grid. And at that point when they said Anthony cut the grid… I was like what??? Yeap you heard that right, they said we don’t want to be connected to the grid anymore… cut the bastard off. It was at that point and at that moment I was hooked. I was inspired, it felt liberating, free from the grid, living independently, no more power bills, what a relief.

It’s a funny thing… but as much as we have relied on coal power to run our homes for generations. Living off grid is possible!
