As a thank you for 400 kudos on AO3, have a little sparring session between Wukong and Dove! I know they're still in their haters era at the current point I'm at on AO3, so I thought I'd give you guys something from later down the road for some fluff and flirting shenanigans 🥰
A Rock and A Hard Place
Wood clashes with iron, Sun Wukong’s staff pressing down against your own. Even with you pushing against him, you feel yourself leaning back. Your teeth grit in an effort to force him back but he refuses to budge, pushing you back into a dip in the ground you didn’t notice until you feel gravity trying to pull you down.
The wind shakes the leaves off surrounding trees, the forest whispers as though it’s mocking you, and you manage to push Wukong back and save yourself before you can fall. “I appreciate the thought behind this Peaches– I do, but don’t you think another weapon would be better?”
“Be grateful I’m doing this at all.” Wukong frowns. “I’d much rather have you back on Flower Fruit Mountain or even Potalaka at the moment.”
Wukong is only just able to block as you swing for his head. “Sorry, no Potalaka. Forgot.”
The apologetic look he gives you is enough to make you step back. “You’re forgiven. But only because I like you.” You hum with a smile, quick to forget his words– what, with the wonderful view he opted to give you while training. You wore some lighter clothes yourself for your sparring today, and Peaches decided to discard his shirt. It’s not like you were complaining.
“How kind of you.” He returns the soft look before his frown settles once more. “I just think you can never have enough experience with more close-ranged weapons, especially if that baboon shows his ugly face again and I can’t… help.”
His voice gets quiet as he says that last bit, your own smile dropping. Your lips part but before you can say anything, Peaches is already making his move. You’re just able to block his staff with your own as he strikes at you.
“You’ve done great with your blade, but that little thing can only do so much.” This time, Wukong is able to push you down the dip, and you stumble back in an attempt to keep your footing. He follows you down, leaping over your figure completely to land behind you. “Besides, my staff works quite well for me.”
You playfully roll your eyes at his performative sparring. Is the little show of demon athleticism necessary? No, but you don’t expect anything less from your Peaches.
Regardless, you continue in your sparring. You go on the offensive, Wukong blocking each strike but you manage to push him back with how quickly you land each blow. “I understand that, but it works for you because you have unparalleled strength that other demons don’t. I’m human, I don’t have the power to keep up–”
“Sure, you may not have the same raw strength as us demons,” Peaches huffs, glancing down before looking back with a grin, “but that won’t matter if you learn how to be creative in your attacks.” You narrow your eyes at him and before he can sweep your feet out with his staff, you jump to avoid tripping.
However, his tail latches onto your ankle before you can land, and you end up on the ground regardless. Your smug monkey leans down to look at you with a look so arrogant that you refuse to let this be the end of the fight. “I can learn to be creative with any weapon, not just your favourite sticks.” Clenching your fists in the dirt beneath your hands, you chuck a handful of it into his face.
Wukong jumps back in surprise, giving you the moment you need to recover and jump back to your feet. You make sure to give a slap to his rear with your own staff as he’s rubbing his eyes of the dirt, making him jump out of his skin while you snicker.
The sharp look he gives you only makes your smirk grow, but your satisfaction with that little stunt lasts only a moment before he mirrors your sinister smile. The quick twirl of his staff between his fingers only widens the pit in your stomach as you realize your mistake and before you know it, Wukong is leaping into action.
He lands blow after blow against you, barely giving you a moment to recover or anticipate his next move, his movements as swift as lightning. You feel yourself losing ground as he pushes you back, putting you on the defensive. “You have a point, Dove. Maybe I chose a staff for you because I wanted to see my love learning the same art as me.” He speaks casually, as if he wasn’t in the midst of attacking ‘his love’.
You trip up amid his flurry of blows you struggle to block and dodge, but before gravity can claim you, the cool iron of Wukong’s staff moves to support you from behind. In the blink of an eye, the staff has you pushed against its wielder’s bare chest. “Or maybe I wanted an excuse to have you like this.”
It takes you a few blinks to process your predicament, silence accompanying your slightly agape lips as you realize you’re stuck. Your face now flushed– and not just because of the sparring– you try to say something in retort, but nothing comes to mind. Being so close to this stupid monkey like this makes it nearly impossible to think straight!
Instead of your usual quick-wit, you turn your head to hide the warmth in your cheeks and try to push away from the sage. Unfortunately, your hands on his chest fail to create any space between the two of you. The bane of your existence refuses to budge, and you find yourself between the incredibly heavy Ruyi Jingu Bang and the stone monkey who wields it. A literal rock and a hard place.
If his smirk is anything to go by, Wukong is clearly enjoying this as much as you’re flustered by it. The cocky grin he shoots you with receives a deadpan look, but only because it’s the best you can do to mask how your heart is racing and the fact that being so close to him like this… is actually nicer than you’d ever admit.
Who are you kidding? He can obviously tell.
“I win.” He whispers in a low voice that sets your heart aflame, even though you feel the need to ask when this training session became a competition.
You grumble under your breath, too stubborn to admit defeat. However, when you find the will to look back at your Monkey King, you find yourself succumbing to the frustratingly-entrancing look he fixes you with. His golden eyes are glittering with amusement. Obviously at your expense, but the affection embedded in his gaze is undeniable– unconditional, even. You can feel that, not a word needs to leave his mouth for you to know that to be true. You carry that same unyielding love for him, it’s the very reason that you feel yourself melting in his hold.
For a moment, you let yourself bask in his captive embrace. Just for a moment. “Don’t forget, Peaches…” You start, looking up into those eyes that can leave you completely smitten. You trace faint lines with your hands, up his chest, over his shoulders, and around the back of his neck so that can hold your love by the back of his head.
Those eyes… they’re almost enough for you to just let him have his little win. “…when it comes to you…” You lean forward, fingers tangling in his hair as they urge him to do the same.
You don’t have to pull him any closer before he closes the gap, the sage more than ready for his lips to meet yours. He leans his head closer as you hum softly into the kiss, elated at the sensation but not so distracted to not feel a hand drop the staff keeping you in place.
The now free hand moves to hold your waist, pulling you flush against the king as he deepens the kiss. Your hands move to either side of his head, your thumb brushing against his cheek. For a moment, you allow yourself to be lost in his love, the one who holds your heart. Nothing could have ever prepared you for the joy he’d bring into your life, the security he provides and the adoration he carries for you. You've never experienced a love like this before him.
Still, you have a point to prove. Once you break the kiss, Wukong looks down at you for a second, as though the man was star-struck. The intensity of love in that gaze can compel you to do nearly anything. Except admit defeat. “…I’m not afraid to play dirty.”
You hook your leg behind his knee before he can recover from your sudden show of affection, and the wide-eyed look on his face is the last thing you see before you shove and send him falling back onto the ground. The surprise in his expression makes you giggle as you stand over him, the air of victory sweet. “I win.”
One might expect Wukong to reply with an air of grumpiness but instead, once he recovers from his shock, the demon flashes a challenging smile. “You wanna play dirty? Fine.” His grin widens and he gives you a dark look, every instinct suddenly making you regret your little trick.
Wukong's voice gets dangerously low, and his eyes narrow up at you. “I’ll give you two minutes.”
“…To do what?” You’re almost afraid to ask. A chill runs down your spine, the way he looks up at you giving you an idea of what he would say next.
“Run."

New chapter is up!
Rescue Sneak Peek!
“I didn’t do it on purpose, baba! He scared me!” Shi frowns at you. “I only scared you because you wouldn’t give me my ball!” “If you wanted it, you shouldn’t have kicked it away!” “You don’t run with a ball, Stupid, you kick it!” “Enough, both of you.” Your father scolds, pinching his nose as he stands back up. “My heart… I thought it was something serious.” He sighs behind closed eyes, and you quietly lower your head. Baba worries so much, you didn’t mean to make him mad. Jing Shi’s parents come out of the house after your father, and your friend’s mother calls out. “Is everything alright?” Your father smiles back at the parents and shakes his head. “Everything’s fine, the children were just playing.” He turns back to the two of you, his face becoming a little stern. “And apologizing to one another, right?” You and Jing Shi share a look with one another from the corner of your eyes before properly facing each other. “I’m sorry for scaring you.” Shi mumbles, looking away with a pout while you cross your arms. “I’m sorry for hitting you… and taking your ball.” You reply, your eyes falling to the ground. You just thought the two of you were having fun, it isn’t like you were going to take it forever. You didn’t want him to cry. “What else are you sorry for?”

So. Today I was supposed to fly across the country and get home where I’d post the next chapter of PoM tonight.
Snow storms said no.
First flight got so delayed that I missed my connection, and after spending multiple hours in different lines figuring out new flights, then having them get cancelled and needing to rebook AGAIN, being told that I can get a hotel voucher by one person and being told “oh no we can’t do that”, and finding only some of my bags while the rest have already gotten on flights home…
I’m just gonna find a hotel. And sleep. It’s been a long day, so I’ll post tomorrow 🙏
I rlly wanted to upload today but they rlly had us sitting on a plane for 2+ hours before it even took off. With all the confusion and the stress, I just need some sleep 😭
#can wukong show up and just take me home via cloud#i thought the airport announcements just told everyone to eat their suitcases what level of delirious is this#love you all#pom#peace of mind

Blinded Sneek Peak!
“How am I meant to face him if I cannot see?” Wukong stresses, in the same state of spiralling everyone seems to be in the midst of, his head hanging down. “How am I meant to save Master if I cannot fight?!”
“Elder Brother is right,” Bajie joins in with his own concern, “how are we meant to take on a demon army when even he was defeated? It might be in our best interest to accept that we have lost–”
“No.” You interrupt the pig demon before he can finish voicing his cowardice. “This isn’t over. I did not spend all that time in the heavens to sit back and cry in defeat while the monk is left to be eaten. Not before he’s had the chance to meet all of his disciples!” You aren’t sure what any of you can do at this moment, but you won’t find the answer in giving up.
You might not all be in the best shape now, but that is just something you’ll have to figure your way around. “An outright frontal assault didn’t work, so we’ll have to be clever about this.” You guide Wukong back to the others, managing to pry one of you arms from his grip to face everyone else.
Bajie snorts at your words. “Did you not hear me? It doesn’t matter what we do, how are the two of us meant to do anything when Pilgrim Sun is blind?”
His questions make you frown. As pessimistic as they are, they hold a truth you hate to acknowledge. Even if you can manage to sneak into Yellow Wind’s home and find Tripitaka, there is still the risk of being caught. If that happens, how are you meant to fight off that king without Sun Wukong?
You look down to your arm still in the sage’s grip, an idea striking as you watch the light taps of rain falling over your arm. Your brows furrow and you groan to yourself, realising a solution– quite possibly your only one. You just hope it won’t be a waste of energy.
“Even injured, you cause such inconveniences.” You mumble under your breath with a smile, half to Wukong and half to yourself.
He frowns at your words, and you’re sure that if he could open his eyes, you would feel his sharp glare. “I’m in no mood for your insults, you whining b–”
“Kneel down.”
If Bajie wasn’t already facing the two of you, you’re positive he would have broken his neck to strike you with his wide-eyed expression. Wukong snaps his head up to properly face you, and despite his current predicament he gives you an incredulous look. “What?”

New chapter is out!
The link isn't working but the chapter is out 😭
Gone Sneak Peek!
A huff of exasperation leaves you before you decide to face the path ahead and ready yourself by notching an arrow. “You act as though I hadn’t already spent weeks defending the Great Monk before we saved you from your imprisonment under that mountain.” “And I’m sure that was nice when it was just you, but does it really look like we’d need your help between the two of us?” The ape gestures between himself and Bajie with his head, who was looking between you and Wukong rather awkwardly. “Your pointy sticks won’t be necessary, Dove. Just stay back and… what is it you do again? Give Master a good pat on the back if he gets scared?” “You have no idea what I can do. If I were as immoral with my abilities as you, the monk wouldn’t have to put up with your aggravations.” You hiss at the ape, though he only laughs. “Your delusions truly amuse me.” He grins, which only serves to irritate you further. The combination of rain and wind feel like the only thing cooling your temper as he continues. “Why don’t you just stay back and do your job preventing the danger of a panic-induced heart attack?” “My job is to make sure the Great Monk and his disciples get to Thunderclap Monastery, no matter how insufferable and obnoxious I find them to be.” You grit your teeth as that last bit comes out, the wind growing stronger as the two of you glare one another down from either side of the horse. It isn’t until the monk rides ahead that the two of you snap out of your short-lived staredown. “Okay then! It sounds as though we all know what to do.” He smiles awkwardly at either one of you before facing forward to continue on the path. Wukong does the same, scoffing a bit under his breath before turning forward as well. However, a frown crosses his features when the wind picks up even more. Raising up his head, he sniffs at the air as Tripitaka continues. “Now, let’s continue on our way so we can get away from this place as swiftly as we–” The monk doesn’t get the chance to finish his thought before a large tiger leaps onto the path just ahead of your group. The man screams at the sudden arrival while you, Wukong and Bajie quickly jump into action. The three of you move between Tripitaka and the tiger, the monk falling off of Ao Lie in pure fright. “Hold on, Master!” Bajie calls back before lifting up his rake to bash in the head of the tiger. When the rake makes contact with the beast, you expected it to recoil or fall where it stood, but it did neither. Instead, the tiger raises to stand tall on its hind legs and reaches to be a good bit taller than the pig demon that struck him. Gripping onto his own shoulder, the tiger violently ripped off his own skin in a single powerful swipe. “It is always a good day when travellers cross our mountain.”

False Hero OCs
For the False Hero AU, @rovobeam and I have come up with some OCs (they were briefly mentioned among Macaque's photos in his house). So I wanted to talk about them a bit!
This is Rovo's OC, Yucheng!
Yucheng can be described as having uhhh 'anger issues', though whenever he's with friends, he tends to be more cocky and sarcastic. Deep down, he can be very protective of those he cares about. Rovo has described him as, "the embodiment of wasted potential". After his family moved him out to the city for school and a brighter future, he began skipping classes and hanging around the wrong crowd until he was expelled from the school. Instead of facing his family and returning home, he picked up a night job at a convenience store, making just enough to get by in a small apartment. Alcohol became a crutch for him to get through the day, the man often carrying a flask in his jacket, "Just for the kick of it." His drinking hasn't ruined him entirely but it poses itself as a difficult obstacle for him to get past on the road to him getting better. It's a sensitive topic for him tho, and he'll get aggressive if called out for his drinking.
It wasn't until meeting a group of struggling street kids that something sparked in him. He could see a younger version of himself in their eyes and it spurred him to take it upon himself to look after them. Yucheng did his best by offering advice and guidance he never had at their age, which then forced him to look back at himself. How could he help them when he was still stuck in his own rut? It's not a change that happens overnight, but slowly Yucheng is working his way back to the potential he once had.
Yucheng's stance on Macaque and Wukong is firmly on Macaque's side. Nothing anybody says will change his mind on who the good guy really is… Macaque made sure of it.
Yucheng was originally one of the first that questioned the legitimacy of who the real hero was after Wukong was freed from under the mountain. Macaque can't stand the idea of one of his close friends ever finding out the truth, so he did what he had to do. He waited for his friend to wander just a bit too far before sending a shadow clone disguised as the Corrupt Sage to attack him. He only meant to scratch Yucheng, but he had moved at the wrong moment and nearly took out his eye. It resulted in his scar, cementing the idea that Sun Wukong was a monster in his eyes.
This is my OC, Xiao Shi!
Xiao Shi is an investigative journalist and a close friend of MK. I mean, when you gamble with your life as much as she does, you're bound to become friends with the heroes of the city after the nth time they spot you in the middle of a big fight. Throw in the fact that her kid brother is nearly as big of a Macaque fan as MK, and she finds herself around the Monkie Crew quite a bit. Her brother's obsession is what originally led her to focus her journalism on Macaque, she had to maintain her status as the cool big sister, after all. Even though she no longer lived at home, she kept in close contact with her brother. Calling everyday, picking him up and taking them to eat together after school, she was always there for him.
Sadly, it couldn't stay that way forever. After an accident that led to their father passing away, and their mother already out of the picture, Shi got a bigger apartment to move into to care for her little brother. She dug herself deeper into work in an attempt to make enough to support both herself and her brother, though it just made things more strained between the siblings. With all her focus on her journalism, they never really had a chance to talk to each other about their dad. Xiao Shi couldn't bring herself to, she never wants to look weak in front of her little brother– she had to make sure he knew she was strong enough to take care of them both. This only really put a wedge between them, and with how often she busied herself with work, and with the stories she often chased, that meant more danger. Her brother hated it– she'd sometimes receive threats against her life to drop something, but it only made her more determined. She threw caution to the wind if it meant she could take care of her brother, but in the mix of all the danger, she couldn't see the stress it was putting on him. She just wants to take care of him, and he just wants his sister back.
Xiao Shi's stance on Macaque and Wukong is one that changes the more she digs into it. Like Yucheng, she's close with Macaque– having someone write you in the spotlight like her can really stroke a person's ego. They have what I call a platonic Lois Lane-Superman dynamic. However, that changes the day she decides to go too far for an article.
She decides to write a piece around Sun Wukong, something to dives into the psyche of the monster. One day, that leads to her snooping around his home while he's off fighting Macaque. She takes MK with her just in case, but they end up getting separated and she eventually comes face to face with the sage himself. After a… chaotic interaction before MK manages to swoop in and get her out of there, she's left questioning why he didn't take the opportunity to kill her. She begins to seek him out more, and realizing her profession, so does Wukong. Despite her distrust at first, their interactions lead to her article developing into an exposé on the truth behind Sun Wukong.
Whether she's able to publish it or not all depends on how fast Macaque can catch onto it.
