S/O: -I'm not going to tell you about the details of our relationship so stop asking
S/O walks out the room
"So really, how did you two-"
ND, pointing his blaster at whoever's asking questions: You will stop asking them about our relationship
"Yeah okay."
ND: Good.
ND: Now I will be leaving to enjoy a very lovely outing with my space spouse, and when we get back, there will be no questions
"Yeahyeahyeahyeah of course, no questions works for me."
very on point for ND asdfskjfdhk in his experience, pointing at someone with a blaster solves a lot of problems lol
ah, he said space spouse! heh 🤭

It will be an easy job, they said. In and out, they said.
You really should have known better than to trust a tip from a thief known to hang out with the Crimson Dawn. He had somehow convinced you that he was trying to split off completely from the group and wanted to hit them one last time before leaving, promising not only a generous cut for yourself, but also some interesting intel that you could deliver to the Pykes. It’s no secret that this is the syndicate you belong to, despite not being a Pyke yourself. With the stormy turns of life, you had somehow ended up stranded on Toshara, and you started from the bottom, making a name for yourself. When Gorak found you, he hired you, and ever since then, you’ve never thought of leaving. He’s always treated you well, and his people seem to respect you. That’s more than you can say for most company you used to keep before Toshara.
So how in the world you fell into this trap, you still don’t understand. You’re no newbie, you know your way around. However, you can give credit where it’s due; your contact really knew exactly how to rope you into this situation, making up some sob story for you to feel sympathy for him, which led you to offer to help him with the job. You had made a plan and everything, since he had the necessary intel to hit a location off-planet you weren’t really familiar with.
Both of you sneaked your way in, and it was easy, perhaps too easy. That should have been the first red flag, but you ignored it. By the time you stole what you came for and started your exit, your contact revealed their true intents: catching you red-handed. Because what you came to steal wasn’t just anything, no. It was some sort of ancient Ashiga artifact. Meaning they delivered you to the insect-like queen after claiming you stole the thing the Crimson Dawn was tasked with protecting.
That’s how you ended up in a cell on Kijimi, waiting for the Ashiga’s punishment. And since an icy planet wasn’t really in your travel plans for the day, you’re not really dressed for the occasion.
Breathing into your hands for the hundredth time, you rub them together, trying to get them to warm up. How long does it take for hypothermia to kick in? you wonder. And how much longer for my limbs to start falling off? You shake your head at the thought. You’re crafty, surely there’s a way to escape?
As you rise to your feet, you pull the hem of your jacket down to stop the cold air from reaching your skin through the thin layers of clothing. You shift your weight from one leg to the other, doing little jumps in place to try and shake off the oncoming numbness in your limbs. All the while, your eyes scan the small space around you. You have no tools but there has to be a panel somewhere that you can yank off to access some wires.
Luckily, Gorak had made a point of giving you some sort of training, arranging “classes” with his handy people to teach you as much as they could about everything and anything, mechanics, slicing, communications.
“In this line of work, it’s best to know a little bit about a lot of things, pup,” he’d say. You smile to yourself as you remember the nickname he has for you. It started out as a tease, maybe even a little condescending, as he took you in like someone adopts a hound from the streets. But it soon became clear that he means it as a term of affection. Affection that may be different for him than for you, as you’re painfully aware that to you he’s become more than just a saviour, partner in crime, and ultimately, friend.
You shake your head to get rid of the thoughts that follow, but still keep various memories of him at the front of your mind in an attempt to keep yourself distracted from the cold. Walking by the walls, you knock and tap on the metallic panels, looking for a hollow sound. Every time your skin touches the icy surface, you hiss through your teeth.
“This might take a while,” you say to yourself, realising you're starting to lose feeling in your fingers.
— — — — —
Unbeknownst to you, the moment Gorak couldn’t reach your comms, he sent everyone out to look for you.
A Pyke scout stands over the limp body of a Rodian on the grassy plains of Toshara, not dead, but unconscious after getting the information beaten out of them. The black clothes with golden accents are unmistakable.
The scout grabs his comlink to call Gorak, and informs him that he now knows where you are: Kijimi, you were sold out to the Ashiga. Gorak curses under his breath and ends the call. Taking two of his helmeted guards with him, the Pyke stalks out of his suite, heading straight to the northern end of Mirogana, which is Crimson Dawn territory.
It doesn’t take long for him to reach the cantina just before the guarded entrance, and his presence does turn a couple of heads. Just as he expected, he sees the back of the green Twi’lek he’s looking for leaning on the bar, enjoying a drink. He steps up to her, towering over her smaller frame.
“Eleera,” he growls.
The woman almost chokes on her drink at the startle, and she puts down the glass, turning to face the Pyke.
“Well, this is new,” she says with a smug grin, knowing exactly why he’s here.
Gorak glares down at Eleera for a moment, then grabs her by her arm, dragging her along as he steps through the entrance to the hallway that leads to Crimson Dawn territory. The two guards lift their weapons, but Eleera gestures to them to stand down. The Pyke guards follow as well, and then they’re all in the narrow space, tensions high as they size each other up.
Gorak all but slams the woman into the wall, demanding to have you freed from Kijimi.
“I don’t care how you do it,” he says, letting go of her arm. “But you’ll negotiate new terms with the Ashiga clan.”
“They won’t just let a thief go so easily,” Eleera says with a wry chuckle.
Gorak sighs with a shake of his head.
“I don’t think you understand,” he starts, gesturing to the surrounding space. “You think you just happen to have established yourself here? I let you be here. Toshara is my turf, and you know that. You will not attack one of mine and get away with it.”
“What, are you threatening to kick us out?” she scoffs, crossing her arms over her chest. “We’ll see what Lady Qi’ra has to say about that. Besides, it’s the first time in a long time I’ve seen you all the way up here. All of this just for that thief of yours? Guess it must be a special one, huh. Too bad, then.”
Gorak bites the inside of his cheek. It’s taking every fiber of his being to keep his composure and not snap Eleera in half right then and there. It’s not the right move, but he’d certainly like to.
“This isn’t over,” he says with finality as he turns on his heels, stepping back out, his two guards in tow. But this time he heads for the landing pad. The brisk walk helps him shake off some of his negative emotions; he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t extremely worried about you. If they so much as lay a hand on you, he’ll kill them all himself.
Once he reaches his ship, Gorak and a bigger group of guards he summoned take off and set course for Kijimi. There’s one thing his scout got out of the Rodian that he didn’t tell Eleera; he knows about the trap the Crimson Dawn set up for you. Surely the Ashiga clan would be keen to know that the protectors of their artifacts sell out their locations like that.
— — — — —
“Ugh, there’s no point,” you grumble to yourself, rubbing your hands together yet again, but there’s no feeling left in your fingers.
You somehow managed to get a panel loose and remove it from the wall, but with your trembling hands you can’t get a proper grip on any of the wires, let alone rearrange them to try and short circuit the network for the door to open.
“Ah, I really messed up this time,” you say into the empty room, hugging yourself and letting your stiff body slide down the wall until you’re sitting on the floor again.
Your shaky breaths come out in white puffs, hanging in the still air for a few seconds. The cold is starting to get to you, and you feel your eyelids growing heavy. Time is hard to tell in an icy, dimly lit dungeon. How long have you been here? Could be ten minutes, maybe it’s been several cycles, who knows.
Kriff, if the Ashiga don’t come get you first, you might actually die here. Maybe this is the punishment. Realising this might be the end for you, your mind fills with images of Gorak, and you smile sadly to yourself.
“I wonder if he even noticed I’ve been gone,” you whisper. “I didn’t even get to say goodbye.”
Another wave of trembles washes over you, and you shake uncontrollably. You hold yourself tighter in an attempt to stop it. But as long as you’re shaking, that’s actually a good sign, right?
Many questions and life regrets plague your mind, to the point you almost miss the commotion outside your small cell. You can hear faint voices and steps coming and going, like there’s a big group on the move. With a sniffle, you lift your head, and for a moment, you think you might actually be hallucinating.
You’d recognise his voice anywhere, anytime. It’s Gorak.
With what feels like an enormous physical effort, you manage to rise up to your feet, albeit a little wobbly. Leaning your shoulder onto the wall for support, you step towards the barred door to hear better. Several voices overlap, barking commands back and forth, and you hear the metallic thuds of doors opening and closing. Finally, the door of your section opens, and several people come in. You blink a couple of times, trying to focus your sight.
“Hey, pup,” Gorak says, the gentleness in his voice not matching the tension etched into his face. He steps up to the cell door and you feel like you could cry.
“You came for me?” you croak out, rubbing your face to try and get some feeling back. You actually can’t tell if you’re smiling or frowning. An Ashiga guard punches in a code on the panel outside, and the door clicks as it unlocks. Gorak is quick to open it all the way, walking towards you. His hands hold onto the sides of your arms, rubbing up and down.
“You’re freezing,” he points out, and you can’t help a chuckle.
“If I couldn’t see my arms and legs, I’d be convinced they fell off,” you say.
A Pyke guard hands Gorak a shock blanket, and he’s quick to wrap you up in it. Still holding onto you, he guides you through the maze of hallways. The last thing you see before exiting the building is the traitor who got you into this mess in the first place being taken by Ashiga guards and dragged away. If you had any feeling in your face left, you might have stuck your tongue out at him.
The Pykes’ pace is a bit too fast for your numb legs, so two guards pick you up from either side, and you quickly find yourself in their ship. When you're settled into a seat and you take off, a med droid takes care of the most urgent matters, giving you hydration and several heat packs.
“How did you know I was here?” you ask Gorak as you can feel exhaustion about to take over.
“Don't worry about that right now,” he says, sitting at your side. The ship’s engine rumbles as it jumps into hyperspace. “Just rest, pup.”
“Yeah, I'll do just that,” is the last thing you say as you drift into a deep slumber.
When you finally wake up, you’re back in Mirogana on a cot, a makeshift med station next to you where the droid from before rearranges some instruments.
You try to sit up but groan in pain, as you can now very much feel your limbs and everything else that hurts. That's when you remember that before selling you out to the Ashiga, the traitorous group of Crimson Dawn gave you a decent beating, since they had to make it believable that they caught you in the middle of trying to rob them. First the adrenaline of the moment and then the cold on Kijimi had kept the pain at bay. And surely the painkillers you’re getting through the IV will take care of it soon enough too, but right now, you feel every sting and every throb.
Your pained grunts catch the droid’s attention, and it informs you of all your wounds in detail. It’s a concerningly long list, but you stop listening half way.
“Where’s Gorak?” you ask, trying to pull out the IV from your arm. The droid concludes there’s no point in trying to stop you so it assists you so that you don’t hurt yourself.
“Up in his suite, I believe,” it responds, and you’re off. Keeping the furry blanket you woke up in around your shoulders as you still haven’t shaken off the cold entirely, you make your way to the main hall. You avoid looking at the polished wall panels, not wanting to see what state you're in, scared that it will diminish your current resolution. Because being in that icy dungeon thinking that you had met your end made you realise that there’s no point in hiding your feelings for the Pyke boss anymore. Worst case scenario, he’d just say he doesn't feel the same, and you’d be able to move on.
When you turn a corner lost in thought, you fully walk into someone, the impact making you take two steps back. You rub your nose, already muttering out an apology, but when you look up, you're met with Gorak.
“You okay?” he asks, and you nod, heat prickling on your cheeks as you can feel the speech you had perfected in your mind already going down the drain. Gorak narrows his good eye at you. “Why are you up? You should be resting.”
“I wanted to see you,” you blurt out before you can help yourself. He sighs, knowing you're too stubborn to send you back.
“Alright then, let's go.” Gorak’s hand goes to your back, and even through the thick blanket, his touch makes your heart skip a beat. It’s not the first time he’s done this, why are you suddenly so affected? Maybe you’re running a fever.
Gorak guides you down the hallway and into the elevator, going all the way to the top floor. You’ve never been there, but you know that’s where his sleeping quarters are, and your gut tightens at the thought, already getting ahead of yourself. Once you arrive, he takes you around a corner where the walls are carved into the stone, a rustic door at the end of the hallway. He calls one of the nearby guards to him and instructs, “No interruptions.”
The Pyke gives a curt nod, readjusting their hold on the blaster, and stands guard by the entrance. You enter and the door closes behind you. Immediately you notice the air is warmer and thicker here, and you can hear the trickling of water. Stepping further into the room, you let your gaze wander over your surroundings: there’s a pool carved into the rock, clear water filling the space. Above the level of the pool, the walls are made of amberine, the reddish orange stone all over Toshara. It seems to glow in the dim light, casting a warm hue on everything. Just before the pool there’s a large trunk against the wall, as well as a small table with some chairs.
“What is this place?” you ask, stepping up to the edge of the pool to look into the water. You can see the faint wisps of steam dancing over the surface, meaning it’s heated. As if to remind you how cold you still feel, a new wave of icy tingles runs down your spine, and you tremble where you stand.
“This is where I come when I want to be left alone,” Gorak says, and you hear some shuffling. Turning towards him, you almost let out a yelp of surprise as you see he’s started taking off his clothes. You’re quick to turn your face away, unsure of what to do.
Once he’s done, stripped down to a dark pair of underpants, he walks to the railing and down the steps into the water, which reaches up to his waist.
“The water is infused with bacta,” is all he says as he turns around, letting himself fall back to be fully submerged.
The water sloshing around him looks so enticing and warm, you've already started taking off your own clothes before you even decide to join him. Letting everything fall to the floor around your feet unceremoniously, you only keep your underwear and tank top on. Not really wanting him to see you like this, you’re quick to make your way into the water before he resurfaces. The moment your foot steps into the pool, you can already feel the warmth starting to seep into your aching bones, and you let out a content sigh.
When Gorak stands back up, running his hand over his face to get water out of his good eye, he faces you, and he frowns at the sight. You look down at yourself and cringe, trying to cover yourself up.
“What’s this?” he asks, gingerly taking your wrists in his hands and inspecting the bruised skin on your arms.
“Ah yeah, well,” you say sheepishly. “The Crimson Dawn roughed me up a bit, I guess. I didn't even notice it was this bad.”
Retrieving your hands from his, you take a step back to look at your legs. You lift one up to see it better through the water, and hum in disapproval as you see more bruises. Thinking back to how you lied curled up on the floor as everyone got a couple kicks in, you decide not to lift your top to check your ribs. Even if you can't see it, you’re certainly starting to feel it now.
Gorak’s frown deepens and he clicks his tongue.
“Give me names and I'll take care of it,” he says.
“That’s really not necessary, don’t worry about it,” you say as your hands come up, waving your open palms before you. “I’m just glad I’m out of that ice block… How did you get them to let me leave, anyways?”
“Leverage, pup,” he says matter-of-factly. “You don’t always need to be the smartest in the room as long as you’re the one with the most information, or even better, dirt on everyone else.”
“Geez, remind me to never get on your bad side,” you tease.
“You could never get on my bad side,” he’s quick to respond, and walks to the end of the pool. The bottom part is raised to form a bench along the side. After taking a seat, he points to the space next to him with his chin. “Come sit.”
You walk to him and let yourself fall, but when your butt touches the stone, the water surface reaches all the way to your nose instead of shoulders as it does with him, so you stand back up with a laugh.
“Guess I'm too short for a Pyke pool,” you say with a sheepish smile. Now that your whole body got wet, you can feel the cool air biting at your skin outside the water. One of your hands comes up to your opposite arm, holding yourself, unsure what to do.
Gorak reaches out to you wordlessly, one of his hands on your back as he hooks his other arm under your knees, and he pulls you towards him, your weight practically nullified in the water. You gasp in surprise, holding onto his shoulders as he sets you down sideways on his lap.
“There,” he says, unfazed, one of his hands finding its place right above your knee. “The bacta will do you good.”
“Right,” you squeak, doing everything in your power not to hold onto him too tightly or look at him too closely as you fear you might combust, all your aching limbs forgotten for the moment. Instead you try to focus on the warmth enveloping you, and start relaxing your body.
After a while of sitting there in silence, the only sound being the trickling water, you dare look at Gorak, and you find him already watching you, the faintest of smiles tugging at the corner of his lips. The amberine walls contour his face in bright oranges and yellows, and his eye seems even darker than usual, tiny specks of gold reflecting in it as he studies your face.
“What?” you ask with an amused smile.
“Nothing,” he retorts, his hand on your leg caressing your skin ever so gently. “Just happy you’re back, pup.”
“I’m happy to be back too,” you say, and in a rush of confidence, your hand comes up to the side of his face, gingerly pressing your palm to his cheek. There’s still a slight tremble in your fingers and you wonder if it’s from the cold or because of the situation at hand. “Thank you for rescuing me.”
“Of course,” he says, and you can tell he means it. Back when he appeared before you in your cell, you feared he’d give you a scolding about being reckless, and that you’d be a burden because he had to come save your hide. But it seems he doesn’t think that at all.
“I have to say though, I wasn’t expecting you to come get me in person,” you say with a slight chuckle. “I was hoping you’d send someone for me. Seeing you in the flesh was a pleasant surprise.”
“When you want something done properly, you have to do it yourself,” he responds, breathing in deeply and holding it for a moment. He looks away and releases it slowly. “Besides, your safety is too important to delegate to someone else. From now on I want you to have a guard with you at all times.”
“Isn’t that a bit much?” you ask with a raised brow. “This was just a dumb mistake on my part. I promise it won't happen again. I’ll be fine.”
“It’s not up for debate, pup,” he says with finality to his voice, but it softens immediately. “I wouldn’t forgive myself if something happened to you.”
“I just don't want the others to start talking,” you point out, and Gorak’s brows furrow in confusion. “You know, because I’d be getting special treatment. I feel like that could make either of us a target.”
Gorak chuckles deeply, and the sound reverberates through his body into yours.
“I think we’re a bit past that, don’t you think?” he says looking down at your position and back up. Another wave of warmth rises to your face. How did you get into this predicament, anyways? Not that you’re complaining.
You look away, in an attempt to calm your racing heart, finding a keen interest in the amberine formations. Your eyes follow the twirls and patterns along the walls to the ceiling, until you’re fully looking up. Taking the opportunity, Gorak leans forward to place a lingering kiss to the exposed skin of your throat. You gasp, not daring to move. Since you don’t pull away, he peppers kisses from your jaw to your collarbone, giving a tentative nip with his sharp teeth, careful not to actually hurt you. When he finally pulls back, you look down at him, and he chuckles.
“Do you get it now, pup?” he asks. “You’ve always had special treatment.”
You hum in response and avert your gaze, your hand on his shoulder tracing patterns on his blue skin. You can feel the raised tissue of a scar there, and make a mental note to ask him how he got that one later, as well as the one on his eye.
“And you don’t mind if others start talking? About us?” you question, daring to bring your gaze back to his.
“I’m counting on it,” he responds, and the confusion in your face makes him laugh. “The farther word gets out that you belong to me, the less inclined will anyone be to mess with you.”
You belong to him.
That thought makes you feel slightly dizzy, and you wonder if the warm water and thick air are getting to you.
“Will I still need a guard if I'm by your side?” you decide to tease him a bit, playfully poking his chest.
“Hm, we’ll figure out the logistics later,” he says and his hand on your leg travels up to your waist, giving a loving squeeze. Except that you’re still hurting, so you can’t help the wince that escapes you. His face contorts in worry, but you’re quick to reassure him.
“I'm okay, Gorak, really. Just a little beat up,” you say. Quite literally. “But after some rest and bacta I'll be good as new.”
“Guess we can stay a while longer,” he suggests, his hand settling for your hip instead, and staying there. He closes his eye, resting his head back against the smooth wall.
Even though you know he can feel your gaze on him, you watch him. He lets you. Your eyes roam his features, the scar on his eye, the thickness of his neck. Travelling further, you take notice of his broad shoulders and build. Bringing your attention back up to his face, you watch the reflections of the water dancing on his chin, the tendrils on either side of his mouth, his lips.
How many times have you wondered what it would feel like to kiss him? And now he’s already established he wants you. You’re so close to him. It’s a no-brainer when you lean in and press your lips to his. It takes him by surprise and his eye shoots open just for a moment before fluttering closed again, reciprocating the kiss. You pull back ever so slightly and dive back in, parting your lips. The tip of his tongue peeks out to meet yours, and a deep rumble leaves Gorak’s throat. The sound makes your whole body tremble, and he pulls back, worry in his face.
“Are you cold? Should we get out?” he asks. You take a shaky breath and blink several times, trying to regain control of your brain.
“I- Yeah, sure. I’ll need a change of clothes, though,” you point out as you realise that your earlier outfit probably is still damp, and you want to put on something warmer anyways.
“I'll have someone fetch something for you,” he says as he rises to his feet, careful to not make you stumble in the water. “My quarters are just around the corner anyways, so no one will see you.”
He climbs up the steps out of the water, and you can’t help but follow him with your eyes, watching the drops of water run down his broad back to the waistband hugging his body. He walks to the trunk and takes out a pair of thick, fluffy robes. He slides one on and ties the band around his middle, then unfolds the other one and brings it to the edge of the pool, offering it to you.
The sight of the fluffy fabric beckons you to it, so you quickly make your way out of the pool and stand with your back to him. Before he places it on your shoulders, you quickly peel off the now soaked tank top, heat burning at your cheeks but you decide not to think about whether he saw anything or not. Without wasting a second, you slide your arms into the sleeves and wrap the robe around your body. A content sigh leaves your lips at the sensation of it on your skin, and you tie your own knot, hugging yourself. It’s a bit big on you, but that just means it completely envelops you, which you’re grateful for.
Again, Gorak’s hand is on your back as he walks you to his room, just a couple hallways away. He instructs the earlier guard to follow, having them stay at the door once more. You don’t look at the Pyke, the fluster in your face definitely giving away your new relationship with Gorak. If they had any strong opinion about it though, they don’t let it show.
Once you’re in the spacious sleeping quarters, you take a look around. Gorak certainly has expensive tastes, judging by the high thread count sheets on the bed and the polished frames around the paintings hanging on the walls.
“Why don’t you finish resting up, pup,” Gorak suggests, gesturing towards the giant bed. “Later today I’ll have someone take you to your place to grab your things.”
“I’m… moving in?” you ask, and blink several times, as it never occured to you that if you two got together, he’d probably want you close. “What will happen with my house?”
“You can keep it if you want,” he says, walking to his wardrobe to fetch some fresh clothes. “Or we can use it as a safe house or for storage. We’ll find something. But for now I want you here.”
You’re not entirely on board with the idea of using your home, one of your few beloved possessions, as a storage room. But as you sit down on the soft bed, you decide that it's a discussion for another time. A nap right now sounds delightful.
Gorak hangs his clothes up in the refresher and comes out to see you already climbing into bed. With a chuckle, he approaches you and tucks you in.
“I’ll wake you up for dinner. Sleep well, pup,” he says, placing a kiss on your forehead, and you smile up at him. Yeah, you could get used to this.

A/N2: “really goose?” you ask. “again on someone’s lap?” “yes!” i say as i cackle maniacally. “you can pry ‘straddling and smooching’ out of my cold dead hands!”

S/O in the back: space married!
abductor: why space?
S/O: because we got married in space!
abductor: there's no need to specify that though, is there?
ND: that's what i've been saying. now, i'm here to get back my spouse *knocks out the abductor*
S/O: .... space spouse
ND and S/O should totally do a Pirates of the Caribbean and get married during a battle
S/O: Are we space married 🥺
ND: We're just married, there's no need for the "space" part
S/O: Well yeah but we did it in space
ND: We're in space right now but we're not space talking now are we?
S/O: ...Or maybe we are :]
no wait this is so cute 😭😭🥹💕 and from then on s/o keeps adding "space" to the most trivial things and at one point it rubs off and ND introduces them as his "space spouse" and the moment he said it he regrets it 😂 like he tries to play it cool but s/o is right there looking up at him like "😳😲🫵!!!! 🥰🥰" lmaooo

Pitter-patter 🌧
summary: blurb of reader and Cal waking up on a rainy day, cuddling in bed
relationship: Inquisitor!Cal Kestis x gn!reader
warnings: none
word count: 1k
A/N: inspired by waking up to the sound of rain hitting my window the other day and thinking how nice it would be to cuddle cal in bed :’) this can be read as a stand-alone blurb, but in my mind this takes place shortly after warmth. kind of like a 2.5 chapter. the third and final part of that series is coming soon~
[all masterlists] 🪶 [star wars masterlist] 🪶 [ao3]
(english is not my first language. constructive criticism and grammar corrections are very appreciated!)

You stir awake to the sound of soft rain hitting the transparisteel.
It’s rare for you to wake up before your alarms and before Cal. Usually by the time you get up, he’s already gone or about to leave. You take a deep breath, considering going back to sleep. But you fight the fog in your mind momentarily to turn and look at the man beside you. For once, he’s not being plagued by nightmares.
Cal lies on his side right next to you, one of his arms slung over you. You take your time studying his face, so relaxed, he looks younger. Despite the dark clouds outside, a slight sliver of light peeks through the curtains, momentarily making Cal’s freckled skin shine. Your hand comes up out of its own volition, and you trace your fingertips over his cheek ever so gently.
His eyes flutter, his brows scrunching together, and his hold on you tightens. He nuzzles his face into the pillow, then blinks a couple of times to look at you. His irises glow in the darkness of the room like puddles of molten gold. You smile at him as you cup his cheek.
“Sorry,” you whisper. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“What time is it?” he grumbles, sleep laced in his voice.
“Still early.”
Cal scoots closer, burying his face into the crook of your neck and hugging you fully into him. Your arm goes around his shoulders, and one of your hands softly runs through his hair. The other, Cal takes into his own, caressing your knuckles.
For a moment, neither of you speaks, not wanting to ruin this rare and tender moment. The only thing you can hear is the soft rain and Cal’s rhythmic breaths.
“This is nice,” he says after a while.
“It is…” you agree, and an idea pops up in your mind. “Do you think they’ll approve a vacation for us if we apply? We could sleep in like this every day.”
Cal chuckles, and the sounds reverberates through your whole body.
“You might be able to apply, but I don’t think I get one of those,” he mumbles, placing a lazy kiss on your jaw.
You hum, thinking of an alternative.
“Maybe we can get deployed together somewhere. A planet with nice beaches,” you start fantasising, freeing your hand from his to trace figures on his bare shoulder. “After the job gets done, we don’t report back just yet, telling them we’ll need one more day. And we can stay at a nice hotel with a view. We’ll order room service, have a nice dinner. Sleep in the next morning.”
Cal leans back a bit to look at you and props up his head on his hand, amusement etched into his face at your plan, but you can still see the slight pain around the edges, as you both know it’s a nice “what if” scenario that will never happen.
“And then we go to the beach and play in the water, build a sand castle, look for pretty seashells,” you continue your fantasy.
Cal sighs, one of his rare genuine smiles spreading on his lips as he closes his eyes. He can see it so clearly: your sun-kissed skin glistening in the turquoise waters as you playfully splash water at him, he hugs you from behind and your laugh fills his ears and heart. He can hear the waves, feel the warmth of the sun and your body pressed to his, feel the silky sheets against his skin as he shows you how much you mean to him, loving you with such intensity that for one night, you’d both forget about the Fortress entirely.
Letting out a shuddering breath at that last thought, Cal’s eyes open again, and his gaze finds yours, watching him closely.
“What were you thinking about?” you whisper, a playful smile tugging at your lips.
He shakes his head slightly with a half shrug, his free hand coming to your face, softly running his knuckles over your cheek.
“Just trying to imagine what a vacation with you would be like,” he says, and you lean into his touch.
“And what’s the verdict?”
His smile saddens visibly.
“If only.”
“Maybe we can figure something out,” you prop yourself up on your side as well as you mentally start to trace out a plan of action. “I could fake a report of an anonymous tip, saying there’s been a Jedi sighting on some obscure planet and I’ll volunteer to interrogate the locals and–”
He softly calls your name to stop your rambling, gently pushing you back onto the bed, and you let yourself plop back down with a pout.
“There’s no way that’ll work and you know that.”
“I know but… When I try to think of a way to make it work, it makes me feel like it could actually be a possibility at all, you know.”
“I know…” he sighs and rolls onto his back, pulling you with him to lie on his chest, hugging you tightly. “We’ll have to get up soon, let’s just stay here while we can.”
You pull back to look down at him, eyes glimmering with resolution.
“I promise I’ll make it happen somehow, Cal,” you assure him. And for some reason, he believes you.
“Okay,” he breathes.
You snuggle back into him, and Cal’s thoughts start racing. After a moment, his hold around you tightens and his heart rate picks up. You want to tease him about it as you feel his racing pulse underneath you, but he speaks first.
“Thank you,” he says as he kisses your temple.
“For what?” you ask, confused.
He doesn’t answer immediately.
“For loving me.”
You lift your head to look at him, a warm smile on your face.
“Well, I’m glad you know you’re loved,” you say and lean in to kiss his lips. “Because you are.”
Burying your face back into his chest, you take a deep breath, inhaling the scent that is so distinctly Cal, and you start drifting off to the sounds of rain outside and his soft breaths, wishing that every morning could be like this.

"oh... uh, why... are they sleeping on you?"
ND, so so bad at lying: ...I poisoned them.
S/O: Snuggles closer
ND: It's a very bad poison.
~~~
S/O: It's not about what they think, they'll just start asking all kinds of questions that I don't feel like answering.
ND: Don't answer them then.
S/O: But that feels so rude, they're our friends
ND: And friends will understand when you tell them to shut up.
sjhadfakshdjh 😂 "it's a very bad poison" made me cackle lmao
ND would absolutely stand up to anyone asking too many questions if it makes you uncomfortable,, it's a thin line between letting you handle it and intervening when it gets too much, and being overly protective. he will need some time to figure it out properly but you can't lie you feel very protected and loved <3
since the new teaser for zootopia 2 dropped, there's been plenty of art and speculation on my dash, which unlocked a memory buried so deep within my brain that i could almost feel a dead neuron reactivating and coming back to life like a cartoonish vampire slowly sitting up in a dusty coffin, with his arms extended and everything.
and i remembered: i once wrote a reader insert for zootopia.
you know that scene where nick and judy go to the secret lab and there's wolf guards who start howling? yeah, i wrote a reader insert for one of those wolves 😂 and a reader with heterochromia, no less. i'm sure it was supposed to be relevant to the plot later on but i can't recall what the plan was lol
either way, i went and dug it up from the depths of my deviantart stash (the website doesn't even exist anymore, that's how old it is 😆 the document is from 2016) and just finished reading through it and oooof.... i mean my english wasn't as good back then as it is now, so there's plenty of grammar issues and also phrases that feel so foreign to me which i surely copied from other fics i read at the time, but like,, the style? the ridiculous shenanigans? it's all there 🙈 (there's a meet cute, a fight with an ex/childhood friend that sets up an investigation for the future, even the "A taking care of a hurt B" trope, all in one chapter 😂) i guess this path was set for me since the beginning lmao
#there's no further commentary on this i just needed to share it lmao#then again#would people be interested in this?#or in reader inserts for zootopia in general?#i genuinely don't know shsghdkd#goose honks
Ashsjhdsj- a hidden relationship with S/O and ND, hidden not because they have to hide it, but because they both know the rest of the crew will be annoying about it
Unfortunately one time, S/O falls asleep on him. He can't wake them up, they haven't been sleeping well for a few days
And then a crew member walks in on the sleepy time. And it doesn't take much to hazard a guess that these two are a bit closer than just friends. I mean c'mon S/O'd arms are around his waist
They were both right. The crew will be so so annoying about this
omg i can already see it, someone walking in on reader snoozin' and the person sees them, then looks up at nd5, and the two have a bit of a staring contest, nd5 slowly shaking his head like "don't you dare" hsjdjddjkd the intruder will probably slowly walk backwards and out quietly, but yes there will be soo much teasing afterwards 😂
this is a bit of a tangent but regarding the hidden aspect of a relationship, i feel like nd wouldn't necessarily be for or against either, he'd go with whatever reader wants to do. but even if they don't keep it hidden, he doesn't make a point of parading it around. he's literally still the same except more attentive and cuddly lol to him, it doesn't matter if the others find out and what they think about it, since it's none of their business. he's confident he can protect reader so he doesn't really care about anyone's opinion. but,, despite technically having no facial expressions, I feel like he's not the greatest liar, so don't expect him to do much talking when he needs to explain why reader is on his lap lol
S/O: I'll ignore the haters. I'll keep kissing your flat face
ND: ...what haters?
YAY ND anons are back :D
ND would really be just so unbothered by what others think of him and his relationship with reader,, like if anyone made a comment he'd just draw his blaster in their face like "you wanna repeat that" sjdfhfskdj and if there were haters, i don't think he wouldn't notice them; he's attuned to his surroundings enough imo. but he'd consciously ignore them for sure. unless they get in his face being annoying about it lol
