one of my favorite things to do in limited perspective is write sentences about the things someone doesn't do. he doesn't open his eyes. he doesn't reach out. i LOVE sentences like that. if it's describing the narrator, it's a reflection of their desires, something they're holding themselves back from. there's a tension between urge and action. it makes you ask why they wanted or felt compelled to do that, and also why they ultimately didn't. and if it's describing someone else, it tells you about the narrator's expectations. how they perceive that other person or their relationship. what they thought the other person was going to do, or thought the other person should have done, but failed to. negative action sentences are everything.

the thing about the whole. idea that tim as robin never got affectionate smiles from bruce as batman and he was only allowed to ever be a professional coworker is that

it's fundamentally untrue if you look at any bruce and tim dynamic pre-1995 where their dynamic is generally full of friendly teasing & smiles & support and it's also untrue of a post-knightfall bruce who is in general far colder and more of an asshole they definitely do still have moments of teasing & having fun & amused smirks together (they go on fun car chases! tim teases bruce! bruce cracks jokes sometimes! bruce goes on tv to exaggeratedly cry about his newly adopted son being kidnapped just for tim!)

even if it were true. the thing is that tim got that joy-filled vibe of being treated like super fondly as robin with teasing & affection & fond exasperation by literally every single other adult vigilante in gotham city. every single other adult. he gets constant hair ruffles from dick! thermos soup on a roof with dick! cheesesteaks with dick! he steals helena's chips! babs invites him over for christmas and gives him homemade cookies! jpv likes him a lot when all is said and done. he is not completely bereft of adults treating him like a kid. he probably is the robin who is treated most like a kid.

what am i saying? oh. yea tim 100% got cape cuddles from helena and that's the only time dick was upset at not having a cape on his costume. it's fine. if he had a cape tim would choose him over huntress for sure.
