Quit your anti tech bullshit!
Anti-tech is anti-disabled people.
Tech is what makes many of our lives possible. Much accessibility relies on tech. Many accommodations are tech!
Without technology, many disabled folks wouldn’t be able to read, write, use social media - or the Internet at all, watch TV and videos, work, take online classes, take notes in class, record the class, have social lives, draw, do other hobbies, leave the house, take fucking care of themselves.
That story about the teacher who banned laptops just fuels this kind of thinking. Bet neither the teacher nor the article’s author even had a passing thought that technology is more than just a distraction, or that, y'know, disabled people exist?
Sincerely, A multiply physically and mentally disabled person who wants you to quit your ableism.

List of things I have to think about that able people don’t:
When they can eat in the morning (I have to wait for a specific time after taking my meds)
Can I manage a shower!?
Walking up stairs, oh god the stairs
Leaving the house to go to the shop around the corner
“If I meet a friend today, will I be okay for the thing I have to do in two days time”
Simply being able to roll over in bed
Being able to put together a basic meal (including “easy” things like sandwiches)
Having to have emergency food for when you cannot make it to the kitchen
Hope can I escape this mind-numbing boredom without moving?
I have 4 days to finish this essay, if I have a crash or a flare what can I do?
How can I relieve the neck and back ache I have from always lying down while continuing to lie down
Here’s just a short list of things, add your own!

disabled people have to constantly modify our behaviors (not talking about our illnesses, hiding visible symptoms, not using necessary mobility aids out of fear) to keep abled people from being uncomfortable, but they wont even extend the most basic accommodations so that we can function in our day to day lives

“Sometimes the pain makes me dissociate so badly I can’t remember anything and have no real grasp on reality. I still go to school, and am told I’m perfectly normal during the day other than a few quirks. I can’t skip, or else I’ll face a worse fate. What hurts the most is knowing that no able-bodied kid would even be asked to consider going to school like this. This is my normal.”

~~~~ Just cute invisible illness things ~~~~
- Being accused of cheating the welfare system
- Being abused in public bathrooms while using medical equipment because people assume you’re using illegal drugs
- Having chronic pain but everyone thinks you’re lying because you don’t show it… because it’s chronic pain that you live with everyday
- Hearing the phrases “It couldn’t possibily be that bad” over and over and over
- People assuming your inability to do things is due to laziness
- Having to lie to your friends and people you care most about because you know that they won’t accept your bad health as a valid excuse again
- Honestly answering the question “How was your day?” and instantly receiving a sarcastic “awwwwwh” while they roll their eyes
to young disabled people:
when i was younger i used to think i wasn’t allowed to be picky about my relationships. i thought that the only appropriate response to someone showing romantic interest in me was overwhelming gratitude - after all, anyone who wanted to date a sick girl must be a saint, right?
wrong. there are people who will fetishize your disability, and there are people who will use you to show off how “good” they are for deigning to date a disabled person. and (i didn’t figure this out until i met my current partner) there are also people who will love you for who you are, disability and all.
it is not a burden to love you, and there are so many people out there who will do so without reservation. don’t be afraid to look for them.
you are important, and you deserve healthy, happy love.
