Sin does not separate you from the love of God.
Perhaps the most dangerous heresy infecting the church today is the idea that sin separates us from God. In fact, Paul teaches, "that nothing can separate us from God's love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers or height or depth, or any other thing that is created" (Romans 8:38-39).
Sin does not separate you from the love of God.
As soon as Adam and Eve ate the fruit in the Garden of Eden, God set out to find them. After Moses murders the Egyptian, God shows up at the burning bush. As Paul headed to kill more Christians, Jesus shows up to call him to share the Gospel with all of us.
Sin does not separate you from the love of God.
Because if it does, that makes sin more powerful than the all-powerful. The false god of the fire and brimstone preachers might send people to hell because they can't handle co-existing with sin. But the whole story of the Old Testament is God continuing to remain faithful to sinful people.
Sin does not separate you from the love of God.
God has taken us in as God's family. And that means that God has committed to loving us no matter what. Sometimes that means God has to establish boundaries. Sometimes that means God will let us fuck around and find out. And sometimes, God might feel a long way away. But in reality, God is sitting there at the phone in case we call.
Sin does not separate you from the love of God.
Because love continues to grow and expand. Sin just takes up space where love could be growing instead. We shouldn't sin so that instead we get to experience all of the God we can. But when we inevitably do, God is not banished from our presence. God is still there, present in every breath we take, closer to us than we are to ourselves, willing us to make room for love again.

i think Jesus didn't die on the cross for us to feel guilt and fear, but for us to love and enjoy life to the fullest. i hate how the church tells us it's our fault and that since He died we must watch all our steps in order not to sin. we are humans and He knew it. Jesus would want us to sing, to dance, to explore ourselves and this life and if that means making mistakes, they should be welcomed in and even encouraged to help us grow. we were made to love, not to fear.

I debated for a while on making this post but I figured I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t know how to ask for help and support when I try to advocate for others doing the same within every community
I’m currently struggling with financial and food insecurity like crazy. There are over 500 of you—a mere $2 from each would mean enough for me to pay rent and breathe easier for another month.
My Venmo and CashApp is @ discounthozier. Anything helps. If you can’t offer anything, a share and/or a prayer would be welcome.
I am happy to return the gesture—if you have something non monetary I may be able to provide (poetry, research, prayer, tarot readings) let me know and I’d be happy to.
