The Great Griswold Wellness Journey
13 posts
Welcome everyone. My name is Mike, and my wife Amber and I are embarking on a new journey towards a healthier and fuller lifestyle. Focusing not only what we put into our bodies and the workouts we do, but also striving to experience life more fully through a more complete wellness journey encompassing our mind, body, and soul. Over the years we have worked at trying to become healthier and more active. The struggle that we have had is with our ability to consistently maintain that healthy lifestyle. I believe there are a lot of people out there that are sharing this struggle. So we have decided to share our journey in an attempt to lets others know they are not alone, to provide some additional accountability for ourselves, and to promote a fun, healthy lifestyle that others can share in if they so wish. So please join us on our journey and we hope you have a great time along the way. [email protected]; Facebook - @gr8griswoldjourney; Instagram - @gr8griswoldjourney; Twitter - @gr8griswoldjour

Thanksgiving Crunch
So trying to eat healthy during The holidays is always hard, harder than it is the rest of the year. So of course that’s when we decided to begin our journey. We didn’t plan it that way it just kind of happened. We did really good at the beginning of this first month but as Thanksgiving came around it got harder and harder to stay on track. But we were able to stay on track enough to meet our weight goals for the first level of our journey and together lost 15 pounds during the last 28 days. The trick was to stay on task as much as possible but not deprive ourselves of all of the things we love. This way we didn’t feel like we were missing out and we didn’t break and just binge. While we didn’t meet our workout or weight watcher goals we did meet our weight loss goals. The main reason we didn’t meet our weight watchers goal is because there were several days we didn’t track our points.
If you are working through your own journey remember that there will be times that will always be harder than others. But it’s important to realize that it’s not a race and as long as you get back on the path you will keep going in the right direction. Just don’t stay off the path for too long 😋. Stay strong and surround yourself with loving people that will help you meet your goals and join you on your journey.
We love y’all and hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving. We will talk to you again soon.
The hashtags are the same since we are still at level one. We met our weight goal but not the others, so we stay on level 1 for now. So get out there live and love your life.

Abs and Architecture in the Hill Country
So as we get going on our journey we decided to spend a day traveling through the Texas Hill country to look at some of the really awesome historical architecture we have in our back yard. While the weather was not the best ever and it tried to rain on our parade we pushed through and hit most of the spots on our list for today spending the whole day out and about having a blast.
We started the day stopping at the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Wimberley. And with perfect planning we showed up just as everyone was arriving for morning service, so we snapped a quick pic and headed out. But this place was gorgeous and we have to go back to spend some more time.

After taking off from the church we made a quick detour to Jacob’s Well. This wasn’t on our original list but Amber had never been so we dropped by for a quick hike. While it was sprinkling a bit we jumped out of the car and headed down the trail. This place is a mad house during the summer and it was so peaceful today and it was a nice surprise. Plus it is one of those spots you really have to visit to appreciate the beauty.

After the brief detour we headed out to Blanco, TX which is another quaint hill country town that are scattered all over Texas. Full of great people and wonderful scenery. Every stop we made today was so pleasant and it was great to be out of the house and seeing the world around us. This is what this journey is all about. Working on our whole mind, body, and soul and becoming healthier and happier. Today was great step towards that goal.
Anyway in Blanco we stopped by the Old Blanco County Courthouse. Beautiful structures that have stood the test of time.

We tried to grab some lunch in Blanco but again with our good planning we arrived here just as church let out and the whole town had the same idea so we headed on down the road to Luckenbach, TX. Here we were able to capture both of our hashtags for the month with some cool architecture and one of the most famous honkey tonks and dance halls in all of Texas. If you live in Texas and have not been then it is a pilgrimage you need to make. Because, everyone is someone in Luckenbach. And to keep up with our perfect timing for the day we were leaving just as the band went on. This was an ongoing trend throughout the day. Best laid plans right.

After Luckenback we headed to Fredericksburg to checkout the Gillespie County Library and finally get that lunch. The library was awesome and you can learn more about it on Wikipedia here. We also had lunch at a delicious little cafe called Sozial Haus. We tried hard to be good, so we had a sandwhich and salad in that attempt. It was better than the cheeseburger and fried cheesecake options in Luckenbach.

With our bellies full we left downtown Fredericksburg and headed to the highlight of the day, Enchanted Rock just down the road. So Amber has never been to Enchanted Rock and we were excited to go, but as with other locations today our timing was perfect. We arrived at Enchanted Rock just as they shut down all of the trails due to rain or to get ready for a public hunt tomorrow. But we still made the best of the situation and walked around the park as much as we could before we got back on the road. It was still a magnificent site and one we will have to come back to soon.

So at this point we were supposed to have about 5 more locations on our trip, but we were running out of daylight and it looked like more rain was coming so we decided to hit up two more spots and head home. The last two spots we visited were Llano County Courthouse in Llano, TX and the Blanco County Courthouse in Johnson City, TX.

Today was a great day. We had a wonderful time getting out and seeing some of the Texas Hill Country that we have not seen before and just enjoying each others company. This is what the journey is all about. Having fun, being active, and loving life. So we hope yall enjoyed our journey, because we sure did. Now its your turn to get out and live and love life. Remember to share your #absandarchitecture and #dumbbellsanddancehalls stories with us.
See yall next time, Mike and Amber

Get Out and Work Out
One thing we are doing as part of our effort is to make a big push to get out and experience the world around us. We spend so much time cooped up it he house watching TV, playing on our phones, keeping up with the mundane tasks of our daily living or just doing nothing. While this is awesome sometimes and our bodies, minds and spirits need relaxation, it makes for a sedentary lifestyle when you find yourself relaxing hard at the end of every day. Often we find ourselves too busy to find time for a consistent exercise regimen to increase our energy and metabolism so that we can combat fatigue and laziness. To bring more balance to our lives we have come up with a set of hastags that focus on two aspects of our wellness journey; working out and getting out. Each month we will have two listed in one of our blogs and will be using them across social media. We would love to see yall using the hastags and creating your own as well. Take lots of pictures and share them. We look forward to having lots of fun with this interactive journey.
