Case Study: 'Recycle Your Electricals' & '7 Days of Garbage'
Recycle Your Electricals is a campaign in collaboration with Gregg Segal for his photography project called ‘7 Days of Garbage’. For this project, willing participants were tasked with saving up their rubbish for a week and then laying with the collected rubbish to be photographed. Segal states that “we don’t fully grasp how much waste we generate until we’re lying in a week's worth of our own garbage.”, this project was made to stop people from their track and evoke the feeling of “that could be me” and that there is way to recycling small eletricals.

When consulting with a communication design student, they talked about how the green from my previous edits made it look more "friendly" rather than showcasing the message for better public space recycling habits. I ended up simplifying the design to better highlight the photo itself whilst using the visual guidelines provided by Auckland Council.

Using the Auckland Council visual guidelines, I have edited the billboard posters to better suit the style of the Auckland Council. I also included an impromptu logo representing me to insinuate a "collaboration" between me and Auckland Council. I also changed the bottom text to "set an example" because the images consist of the correct procedure for establishments when dealing with rubbish and recycling. So, from this context, I felt the phrase "set an example" fit with the purpose of promoting better public space recycling.

Library visit

In today's studio, we went to the library to see the installations of the 'Trouble In Paradise', other campaigns and briefly look at photography books. This would have been helpful for people who plan to have exhibitions and/or photobooks as their deliverable methods, particularly in terms of how they are installed, layout, and print quality. The photo on the bottom right from the images above stuck out to me the most because I really liked the imagery of the women embracing the trees together, and felt it was relevant to the themes of the 'Trouble In Paradise' campaign.

For a short moment, we also saw some photography books. The first book had nicely shot moody black and white portraits, and the second book, like the title suggests, had images of random things, but they were framed and composed in a way that was uncomfortable and visceral.
