Summerise

The key reflection on design decision I made is using collage to combine 4 styles of design together as one. I used two different ways of making collage.

I have learnt that in a book or magazine design, it is important to confirm layout and build grid to let everything aligned, so that it looks very tidy and comfortable. Also the most important thing I learnt in this project is to package the Indesign file and people can rearrange it after with no mistake or missing links. It is a very convenience tool when I work in a group. Another new thing I learnt is the method of printing double side booklet correctly. It is also a very practical skill that I could use when I go to work.

I personally don’t really know how to take good photos, but I really like other works made by photos, so I will try to use photos as image to design in the future.

When I'm arranging my pages, I consider that my design team members are tints, broadly into two light yellow and two white backgrounds. Because my front and back cover is in a large area of white background, I hope that the two interview pages neighbouring covers are also white bases.

I used same image on cover page as inner cover and I flip it and turn the opacity down. With a image aside, I think introduction pages is too blank so I add flowers from my group’s work onto it. 

I found my conposition of flowers is quit similar to the composition on interview page which I think not good so I change the position of it and let it fall from top so that people can follow it’s direction to read the text.

This is the final acknowledgement page I’ve got. I put image at the back of title so it looks like a banner and I turn the opacity down so that I won’t attract too much attention.

I tried two ways of displaying the title. The reason why I change it to one line is I think it is hard to read the title if it is two lines especially when it aligned from the bottom.

This is the acknowledgement page I made. I think it is pretty good with nice-aligned and grided composition.

This is a magazine composition for acknowledgement page from Harvard. I think it shows informations cery clear with bold sub-headings. It also distinguish the importannce of information by changing the size of the words.

FINAL CONTENT PAGE

This is my final content page, I changed titles’ typeface all same to make it more clean. All information are aligned in the middle of whole page with big content title at left so people can notice it first and read from left.

The size of my page number is big because I don’t want people to look at too much informations until they see the interview page, and the quickest way of letting them see the interview page is to pop up the page number.

I also put title above each image, but it looks too messy with different shapes and colours so I need to do some change after.

I really do like the layout of putting them in equal four columns and like banners hanging from above, but the width of my pages is too short so it can’t show the images very well and there left few space for more content text.

This is a content page I like very much. It is simple and clean with some page title and general content below images.

I changed several layout of images on content page, I think putting them in a rectangle layout does not working in my project because there only 4 interview people image and it is hard to have a layered composition.

I finally changed my title typeface style into bold, because I think it was too weak with regular style. I think it looks body text before but it is ok now.

I really like the combination of text and image for content page.

This is the final back cover I come up. I didn’t put many character image on front cover because I want people to discover in articles by themselves, but I put them on backcover is because now they have the image for the human cut-off after they finish reading and see the back cover.
