      Grit and speckles of sand stuck to his fingertips with each bounce. Perhaps if he had made the effort to walk just a few more steps, Oikawa would’ve realized that there was a rec center just beyond the park gates. But for now, he was stuck with a little patch of sand and a torn net. He pouted. Beach volleyball was so lame! 

     Oikawa was already up in the air and released a quick jump toss before realizing someone had dared to venture into his shot’s danger zone. The captain flinched upon hearing the loud thwang, and was even more reluctant to approach his victim. “Oopsie~! My bad! Must’ve lost a little control on that serve.” He blamed it on the sand. “Are you alright, mister? You took quite the fall.” Oikawa trudged over to the other side of the net, squatting down to pick up a pair of what looked to be designer-brand glasses before handing them back. 

    “Ah, you’re in luck! No cracks!”

           As if one headache wasn’t enough. Perhaps it was his fault for not paying as much attention as he should’ve been, but there was something strange about a young teen hitting around a volleyball in the park. A sport which he thought was mean’t for inside was clearly misjudged as it came flying towards him. The ball hit Ignis square on the back of his head, causing his head to jerk forward and his glasses to fly off. “What the bloody hell –” It took him by surprise as words muttered lowly from his lips, feeling the sting of the hit, as the ball rolled beside him and next to his glasses.

“Huh…” He didn’t really know it was normal; him and his family got some, but he figured that was just because they were pretty famous back home. “You share them? That sounds like what I do at home!” It was true, he’d share with said family in the past–but that gets pushed out of mind at the questions, and he shifts around a bit uncomfortable. “Well, I mean–no, it’s–i-it’s a really complicated situation.” That wasn’t a lie.But…charm point? “Um, I… can sing? Does that count?”

    Ah, so he actually had gotten gifts before? Surprising. And he could sing? Doubly surprising. Oikawa’s brows narrowed in confusion. “At...home? So you share your gifts with your parents?” He stifled a laugh then. “Aw, no need to be so shy with me~ You can tell me anything!” He wrapped an arm around the other’s shoulder, bridging the gap between them. “Besides, I have lots of time! Tell me how you two met, what went wrong, and maybe I’ll be able to give you some advice. Maybe your singing scared her away~”

      Seeing a volleyball jock under strobe lights and color-coated crystal pieces was bound to draw attention; rather, he stuck out like a sore thumb. And unbeknownst to him, Oikawa had become the hunted. Stocking had muttered it so matter-of-factly before grabbing a handful of candy from their place at a table, but Oikawa had taken the compliment to heart. Way. To heart. 

     His eyes wandered over to the girl who was waving at him to come join her table of equally attractive gal pals, who were all clad in something tight, shiny, low cut, high cut, heck, he couldn’t even tell. Oikawa quickly averted his gaze and he gulped before turning a concerned face to the lolita. Then, he kinda just let it all out.

     “B-But I’ve never dated older girls before! What do I do!?”

                                       So young, so pure…

       When someone outperforms him ( cough, Kageyama Tobio, cough ). Most of Oikawa’s identity revolves around being the best setter who can bring the best out of any team’s potential. He realizes that his talent has its limits, and someone is bound to overthrow him; but that, in turn, threatens his identity at the same time. That feeling when you’ve hit a roadblock and are frantically trying to solve it before someone overtakes you…it’s a hard thing to swallow!

      Seeing the cool jobs some of my friends have! I try not to compare, but man, a few of them get to travel around the world and they IG some of the greatest shots, so it’s kinda hard not to be a little bit jelly, right? I’m happy that we’re all getting to do what we want to do, though ;-)

“This is your fault for getting so uppity about a little water in the first place!!” what, was this guy made of paper?!  

“That could’ve been sewer water for all I know!” he retorted. “But of course someone like you wouldn’t care! You look like you came straight from a garbage can.” Oikawa even dared to take a whiff -- and instantly regretted it.

“Ugh, and reek of it, too!” That’s probably where he’s been hanging out, anyway. Gross!

     “Desperate times call for desperate measures, Tachibana-kun~! Sometimes you just have to play dirty.” Aoba Johsai’s team captain was all smiles, triumphantly humming as the two walked side by side. They had just left what seemed to be an impromptu double date at a cafe – but Oikawa preferred to call it an ‘opportunity.’ A couple compliments and a dash of suave smiles was enough to leave the two girls in a frantic tizzy, and they had treated both athlete’s to a gourmet lunch.

    “C’mon, look on the bright side: we scored free lunches because of me!” Oikawa offered a cheeky smile, poking his face with his fingers. “Ah, but you’re too nice to do this kind of stuff, huh? Leave it to me, then!”

      Was he really going to ask that question? Oikawa swung a soaked head to look at his perpetrator, drilling holes into red getup.  “Maybe if some creepy cosplayer hadn’t taken their character so seriously, I wouldn’t be wet!” The vehemence in his voice dripped from his lips like the droplets that coursed down the lines of his face. Honestly, what kind of person descends from the top of a building and survives? This city was getting weirder by the day. 

     Oikawa glanced back down at the giant puddle the other had landed on – and the one he had unfortunately been standing next to upon impact. “Maybe if you keep in-character, you’ll dry yourself like a dog, too!”

🗺 = Where would the mun and muse like to travel to most? Have they ever traveled away from their home city/state/country?

       Other than traveling to volleyball games across the Miyagi prefecture and going to Tokyo Disneyland once for a middle school field trip, Oikawa hasn’t really left home! He definitely wants to go to Tokyo and study there – and to visit Okinawa would be the icing on the cake! He hasn’t really thought about traveling abroad, but has always dreamed of making the Olympic team to duke it out with Western countries. Ball is life, after all !

      I’ve been very lucky to have the opportunity to travel most of my life! I’ve lived mostly in Hong Kong/Beijing and America on and off, but also managed to study abroad in Scotland during uni. Some favorite places I’ve visited include Japan, Australia, and Sweden! I really want to go to South Korea, if I ever get the chance. :-3
