A lot of programming, designing and meetings lately. However, sometimes you just have to stop and enjoy the view!

11 companies that were left for dead and survived By Kim Peterson Remember when Polaroid was expected to die? The company filed for bankruptcy in 2001, and while it had been a household name for decades, few thought the brand could make it in the age of digital photography. Polaroid was written off as a relic whose technology was soon to be eclipsed by phone cameras and premium SLRs.

Apple Officially Discontinues the iPod Classic The original iPod music player debuted 13 years ago, in October 2001. It remained one of Apple’s core product categories over the years, despite declining sales and a world of listeners increasingly more reliant on streaming subscription services. Now, as Apple moves into larger-screen smartphones and wearable devices for our wrists with the unveiling of the iPhone 6 and the Apple Watch on Tuesday, a standalone MP3 player has become too antiquated to keep alive.

iGotThis: The iPhone 6 Might Work as a Virtual Wallet New reports claim that a new virtual wallet is almost certainly going to be one of the iPhone’s biggest new features. According to Re/code, “Apple has reached an agreement with American Express to work together on its new iPhone payments system,” and the new feature will enable owners to make digital payments in physical stores without a credit or debit card. Apple CEO Tim Cook has made no secret of his desire to do something innovative or creative with the 500 million+ iTunes accounts with connected credit cards at his company’s disposal, and the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 5s — the company’s current flagship smartphone, launched 12 months ago — was seen by many as the first step toward Apple moving into mobile payments, allowing consumers to use their handsets in lieu of a physical wallet, cash, or a credit card. In July, The Information reported that Apple had been in negotiations for some time with a host of credit card companies and retailers about bringing a virtual wallet service to the next iPhone, and in recent weeks reports have also surfaced claiming that the next iPhone will be the first to incorporate near field technology (NFC), a form of secure wireless connectivity that is already used in a host of European debit and credit cards for making contactless, PIN-free, swipe-free, signature-free payments for smaller amounts.

Scientists Make Cheap, Fast Self-Assembling Robots In what may be the birth of cheap, easy-to-make robots, researchers have created complex machines that transform themselves from little more than a sheet of paper and plastic into walking automatons. Borrowing from the ancient Japanese art of origami, children’s toys, and even a touch of the Transformers movies, scientists and engineers at Harvard and MIT created self-assembling paper robots.

Sixth Street in March during the ROT rally. Just snapping photos. Looked at them later in black and white and there seems to be more of a story in each photo. Sometimes black and white can make the difference.
