day 17: hunting party

i really love writing parallels between the Goldy Pond crew and Gracefield. Emma's survival was guaranteed because she was higher quality while Zack's was ensured due to being considered damaged.
Isabella is referred to as one of the greatest mothers in history throughout the series and I think that's because she genuinely loves the kids by giving them the best lives she can
I think it sets her apart from most other caretakers who might have lashed out at the kids due to their situations (which is unfortunately the case for Zack here)
Since Isabella doesn't face any consequences for breaking Emma's leg I wanted to explore how other farms could get away with that

"There was a future we wanted. There was a destiny we couldn't change. We fought back. And fought back. We grasped something. We lost something. So what? Screw Destiny. Let's live together!"
Happy fifth anniversary of you ending, The Promised Neverland, the series you are 🌅

I feel like a lot of people don’t quite get what a butler is. The role tends to get rounded off to ‘male servant’ pretty regularly in some media, whereas actually butlers are typically not just servants but chief servants. The butler was generally in charge of either all male servants or just all servants, period, in the household of an aristocrat or other very wealthy person. This meant that butlers have often been fairly powerful and influential people, and sometimes even had a manservant or two of their own.
(Also, fun fact: Mary Roberts Rinehart, the early 20th century mystery writer who is widely credited with popularizing the whole ‘the butler did it’ trope was nearly murdered by one of her own servants, a chef whom she had passed over for promotion to butler. He came at her with a pistol, but it jammed, allowing her chauffeur time to wrestle it away and restrain him.)

FMA Hot Take: Al’s identity crisis is not poorly written. “It comes out of nowhere”, “Why would Al not trust Ed?”, etc can all easily be explained by the fact that Al is like 14??? With a ton of trauma??? He’s trapped in a literal suit of armor and people think it’s unrealistic that he would doubt his memories. I think the decision to have it be really random was intentional, you can even tell Ed and Winry are really taken aback and confused by it. It’s something that only really makes sense in Al’s confused mind.
