🎮 - tomura isn’t actually that good at handling kids if they’re too young so he approaches all age ranges as being roughly teenage, regardless of how young someone actually regresses. it usually isn’t too bad, but it does lead to him giving a baby their bottle while it’s full of energy drink or him giving a toddler an unplugged controller to fiddle with while he’s playing games. tbh he’s more babysitter than caregiver— like an older brother being told to handle their younger sibling while they have no interest in doing that at all. he’ll keep the kid alive and he’ll do it with love, but he will complain and he will do it in the worst (yet still well meaning!) way possible.

👾 - really can’t handle crying, screaming, or any emotional fits. he cant even regulate himself most days and someone else’s meltdown is only ever going to trigger his own. most of the time, it’s all he can do to just shut the regressor away and try to make things as quiet for himself as possible, even if it means outright abandoning them. that said, he leans on the league a lot to help him and if he’s not handling things alone, he’s much better at interacting with a high stress situation. instead of hurting the regressor by leaving them alone to deal with things, he usually gets a more “adult” caregiver to come help— meaning compress, magne, or kurogiri. while they calm things down, he hangs in the back and waits until things are less upsetting to come help comfort everyone.

🎮 - extremely competitive, he refuses to let someone win just because they’re a baby. he believes that they should just get good and figure it out because he’s not going to make himself look foolish by letting a kid win against him— or, at least, that’s what he says until he’s face to face with puppy eyes that are brimming with tears. the amount of times he’s given the win to someone else on a game he really likes, all while grumbling about it being unfair, could win him an award. he’ll never admit that he let someone else win out of the kindness of his heart, but if he does genuinely lose to someone then he’ll make that argument a thousand times over. it is somewhat worth it when his sib smiles at him and celebrates their win against the greatest gamer alive— their words, not his ofc.

👾 - names are a bit complicated for him. he never really connected with tomura for obvious reasons, but he still prefers it because he isn’t exactly tenko either and he doesn’t like it when people use that name for him. it’s especially triggering to have someone young use it, tugging at his shirt like hana used to do. he doesn’t mind being called brother, or any variation of that, so it’s not all bad. you can’t call him mom/dad, though, because he basically responds like that “do I look??” vine and will bully you for being parentless. the singular perk in being an orphan is that he won’t feel bad about it. I personally give him the nickname tora regardless of agere context because it’s a play on (to)mu(ra) and means tiger, which is just really cute to me.

🎮 - it’s hard being a caregiver when he has so many issues of his own. tomura has ocd and a lot of his ruminating spirals surround the people he cares about, including his regressor. when holding them, he compulsively thinks about decaying them. when he sees their smile, he thinks about hana and what he did to his family. when he’s just existing, he thinks about all the things he could do and it freaks him out. more often than not, it ends with him isolating away from them and trying to make it stop because he doesn’t like imagining that and he doesn’t know what he would do if he lost the league— if he lost his family again. the only way to really make it through these episodes is to force himself not to compulsively isolate and, instead, just exist near his regressor/family and see that he’s not hurting them. baby cuddles fix everything, really.

👾 - is actually pretty quiet most of the time and that extends to playtime. he thrives best in a dynamic with a yapper regressor who doesn’t mind him only being there to listen. he’ll throw in snarky remarks or actual ideas for what they can do, but he tends to let the regressor take the lead because he doesn’t actually know how to play. he doesn’t really remember what it was like as a kid and it’s hard to extend that to now. that’s why he likes video games so much— there are clear objectives to follow while being able to play like a kid again. if there are rules, like card games or board games, then he can easily follow them; he’s followed rules disguised as freedom his entire life. more imaginative things, however, aren’t his thing. half the time he gets too frustrated and has to do something else, and the other half ends with him foggy with memories. it’s healing in its own way, though. he likes being able to do kid things again 🥺🫶

🏴‍☠️ - hotch is really good at clocking when his regressor is feeling small, regardless of how hard they try to hide it. that man is the father of all fathers and similarly how he can easily recognize what a kid is trying to draw when it just looks like scribbles, he knows the tells enough to see when someone is feeling too little. for the most part, he’s pretty direct in the confrontation, asking if they’re small and accepting if they say no. he doesn’t believe it, but he does respect the boundary and watches from a distance until he’s needed. he’ll usually do things to make them feel more safe to openly regress, taking care of them without naming it what it is. it’s small things like offering bigger clothes, cutting up their food, ect (basically things that aren’t imposing).

☂️ - the best person to get in trouble with because, despite how scary he seems, he really approaches misbehavior and tantrums with compassion and straightforwardness. he’s big on talking things out other doing any kind of punishment and he’s a wall of love and respect when someone is throwing a tantrum, always helping coregulate with an insane amount of patience. he was a lawyer for years, though, and it really shows in how he handles these discussions. yk those john mulaney skits about his lawyer father and how he does confrontations? I see hotch as a more playful version of that, serious when he has to be but otherwise keeping the conversation as lighthearted as possible because he doesn’t like being the mean dad or making a child cry. when he does lose his temper because he’s human and it happens (especially if the behavior was dangerous and scared him), he always apologizes and makes sure it’s known that he didn’t mean to yell or scare anyone.

🏴‍☠️ - loves playtime but is really, really bad at it. a lot of child’s play is creative improv and hotch is only good at it in the singular context of profiling so a lot of his characters have dumb voices and characterizations that go make the regressor giggle from how silly it is— dinosaurs that are pizza delivery drivers and werewolves that struggle to do their taxes because they’re always due on a full moon. he loves spending time with his regressor, though, and he really appreciates any forms of playtime that aren’t the more “stereotypical” kinds because it feels like he can keep up a little easier. he always goes above and beyond, though, listening to what his kid likes and the stories they tell. he’s just a fatherTM and that means he’s super lame like 90% of the time /pos

☂️ - he doesn’t like video games and is extremely bad at them. he can backseat puzzle games and that’s it. anything sandbox is out because he’s more goal oriented than creative, anything that requires multiple buttons is out because it’s hard for him to keep up, and even most arcade games are out because he’s literally only somewhat okay at the classics (pac-man and space invaders specifically). he’s just generally not a game person. he can do simple racing games and he can do board/card games and that’s it. if it’s something his regressor likes, though, then he’ll try just to spend time with them and he doesn’t mind if his horrible skill gets him made fun of because he likes hearing his kid laughing.

🏴‍☠️ - so gentle about any fears of the dark his regressor may have, or any mention of monsters under the bed or closet. he goes out of his way to check and he gets nightlights and glow in the dark stars to decorate every inch of his house. there’s a universal rule that if they have a nightmare, they’re allowed to just crawl into bed with him for a cuddle or call him if they aren’t spending the night regardless of how late it is. if he’s at a job and can’t come to the phone, he’ll always call back as soon as he can to check on them. a lot of his caregiver dynamic hinges on being more long distance too— digital sticker charts, scheduled texts to remind the regressor to eat and take care of themself, ect. and a lot of it is stuff that he has garcia helping with because she’s the least judgmental person he knows and also, like, the only one on the team who knows how to do half the stuff he needs and knows/can find out the more internet culture aspect of agere if that’s something his regressor is apart of.

☂️ - gets gifts/merch from every new place he goes to. it’s usually like a plushie or an oversized tourist shirt (the more tacky the better) but he’ll get really anything that he can find that he thinks his regressor will like. keychains of their favorite cartoon character, sippy cups with some kind of slogan on them, mugs or postcards with wild sayings on them. imagine the most serious dude you know, dressed in a full fed suit, rolling up to a gimmick shop and grabbing the most absurd (or cute!) thing he can find in between trying to solve murders and thats hotch LMAO there comes a point where sometimes other members of the team will just pick something up in the style of things they’ve seen him grab (or things they know about the regressor if it’s something shared because he’s very private and wouldn’t tell anyone without the person’s say so) and offer it up to him.

struggles as an autistic age regressor

all *my own experiences* that i’ve been thinking about recently!! remember that everyone experiences their regression differently (^з^)-♡

✿ crying for an hour because you ran out of your favourite toothpaste

✿ deciding that going hungry is better than eating an unsafe food

✿ getting overwhelmed by your own regression space becoming messy but not being able to clean it up without help

✿ needing someone to baby you while regressed but also needing them to give you space so you don’t get overwhelmed

✿ using your stuffies for comfort on a normal basis but hiding them before you have a meltdown so they don’t see it

✿ using your favourite chewelry every day so much that it starts to rip/break when you use it.

✿ having a hard time with the bathroom but getting scared of using/needing diaps

✿ having trouble separating internalized ableism from your real needs

✿ feeling like you have to hide your regression because people already think you're “too childish”
