The #MilkyStork is classified as endangered. When I first spotted them in #SungeiBuloh Wetland Reserve, I noted not more than 10 and in fact, probably less. There's so much to learn about nature. So actually, it's not an Albino Collared Kingfisher. It's a Leucistic Collared Kingfisher. Otherwise normally blue, it is white with pale beak and feet. Albinism is a condition in which there is an absence of melanin, which gives color to the skin, feathers, hair and eyes. Vertebrates with albinism are not only white (or sometimes pale yellowish) in color but they also have very pale eyes, often pink or red in color as the blood vessels show through. Leucism, on the other hand, is a partial loss of pigmentation, which can make the animal have white or patchily colored skin, hair, feathers and so on, but the pigment cells in the eyes are not affected by the condition. The Albino Collared Kingfisher. So the observation I've made and some understanding I've got is that it doesn't have very good eyesight. Often mistaking other birds like Swifts or whatever flying by as it's parents. Probably bad depth-perception as well as it keeps knocking into things and though it can fly, it basically crash lands almost every time.
