I'm wondering if, as a society who cares about vulnerable people, we could stop saying "traumatize" when we truly mean "upset"?

I am sick of hearing sad books or movies "traumatize" their readers. I simply do not believe that happens. A traumatic experience might be adjacent to books (I have vivid memories of books I was reading around certain experiences and even how the contents of those books affected my processing of the experiences). But it's not caused by the book. And, y'know. The weather is Christofascist Censorship Attempts outside.

Meanwhile from the other side I continue to be surprised at just how badly people fail to understand trauma and traumatic experiences in general. Watering down the term isn't helping. Find other hyperbole to express that The Bridge to Terebithia gutted you, chewed on your heartstrings, and made you cry your first pair of contact lenses right out of your preteen eyes.

Sunday, September 7th: Hello, everyone. I’m Gem, a bi, mentally ill, and disabled woman in desperate need of help as I'm struggling to pay my late bills and keep my utilities on!!

I apologise for asking for help again. As most of you know from my previous posts, I have been struggling to make ends meet while on welfare, as my Dad was diagnosed with throat cancer last month and I had to make an emergency trip to London to visit him before his cancer surgery, which happened at the beginning of this month.

However, in doing so, I used what little funds I had to take care of him, myself and my sister. As a result, my bills are now overdue, and my electricity is relying on emergency credit. These past few weeks have been absolute hell, and with no other income, I've been relying on the kindness of others to get by.

I desperately need that kindness again. I've tried my best to handle my late bills and utilities on my own, but the situation is becoming overwhelming. My electricity is at risk of being shut off, and I won’t receive my welfare until the 30th.

Again, I know this is a lot to ask, but if anyone could spare any amount to help me, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would save my life, and sharing helps just as much.

Homeless LGBT family needs help!

Hey again. So we're coming into September and my family is still struggling with being homeless and unemployed. I've had little bits of correspondence here and there in terms of looking for work but aside from a few aptitude tests I've been asked to complete, it's been slow-going. We've been having excessive heatwaves lately and it's been exacerbating body pain while we've both been sick. I'm having trouble keeping things together and keeping myself together with all the depression and stress and fear, and I could really use some support from our community. I am asking where I can for help covering food, shelter, bills, and toiletries to keep us going while I continue the job search. I know I can get us shelter once we can find work but it feels like there is some invisible wall we keep bumping up against that is keeping us from progressing. We are getting lots of notes but I feel like my posts aren't reaching the right blogs in order to get us the help we need lately, so please share this if you see it. My friend charlotte is getting evicted in ONE WEEK and has nowhere to go! She has a social worker but all housing options are waitlisted and she is too disabled to work.
