Poll time!

Hello all! Thinking on what I want to do with my free wolf ref base some more... consider this an interest check! ^^

I'm considering making a pack of colourable, realistic wolf markings that folks could optionally use to help colour the base. Wolf markings are complex and honestly pretty difficult to get right, but I've drawn a lot of wolves in my time and have a bit of experience there. xD

Hence... THE POLL

I would begin making the markings after I've finished the next planned base expansions (arctic and desert wolf bases).

I figure this would be helpful for non-artists and beginners to create the designs they want to! I would really love to give folks who aren't ~digital artists~ a way to create meaningfully accurate refs for their wolf identities, fursonas and OCs. A more personal alternative to things like AI. ^^

The markings would be in their own folder, not included in the base by default. You'd just add the specific marking images to the base as you like! So it wouldn't affect the size of the base file for folks who aren't interested. c:

This would be a lot of work, but I don't mind doing it as long as I know folks will find it useful! (Also, I would definitely find it fun ahaha)!

Free-To-Use Wolf Base!

WAH THIS WAS SO MUCH WORK BUT IT'S READY!

I put together this pic to showcase some of the different features available. Most of them are quite subtle, so you'll have to see for yourself!

The file currently includes a summer and winter coat base, four ear variants, four snout variants, and a variety of facial expression options. All head features are available on the headshot as well as the fullbody, and all features are compatible with both the summer and winter bases, so you can mix and match!

There's also two sets of text boxes, two palette options, and some public domain photograph backgrounds to pick from.

I'd like to expand it further in future, but I'll be taking a breather first. It's been a lot of work making this! Worth it though, I think. ^^

Rules of use

This base is free to use for any non-commercial purposes which don’t involve the use of generative AI. You may not use this base for profit, advertisement, or commissions without my clear, written permission. You may not use any generative AI tools at all in relation to this base. Doing either of these is a violation of my legal ownership of this work.

If you want to share the base, you can – however, you must do so by sharing a link to this tumblr post. You may not post a link to the file directly, or reupload it to share online under any circumstances.

You must keep my signature clearly visible. By alpha locking the layer, you can recolour it dark or light to be visible on your background of choice. It can be in any location and colour, as long as it is visible and the text is legible without effort. You may not claim the base as your own, but any designs made with it are entirely yours of course!

If you post work using this base anywhere online (including on discord or art apps), you must include a link to my tumblr account as credit for the base – preferably a link to this post specifically.

Making really good progress on this, and had some new ideas which may or may not pan out - we'll see!

Here's the winter version!

All the variants of base, ears, tail, and snout are on their own layers and interchangeable! So you could make, for example, a summer base wolf with the winter fluffy tail.

Added some more ear variants in as well! Here's the current set! In order: summer, winter, arctic, and mexican wolf. ^^

Next up for expansion is the snout options!

Current plan is to add some more snouts, and then start working on a front view of the face (with all the different facial features available, ofc)!

Once that's done, I'll publish version 1! I'd still like to build on this beyond that though. First follow-up addition I'd like to add is body variants based on the Indian wolf and arctic wolf.

One last thing you might notice: the eyes are finished! I even made some expression variations for the eye, pupil and mouth. You can create some fun combos!

In order: long snouf ref'd from plains wolf, blocky snout ref'd from northwestern wolf, arctic wolf snout, and tapered snout ref'd from Italian wolf!

Might end up tweaking the new ones further, but they're okay for now. ^u^

Back again! Here's an update on the wolf base. This is the summer coat finished; winter is in the works, and I'd like to add more varieties in as well, both for bases and for ears, snouts and tails. ^^

(This base will be free-to-use for non-commercial purposes, and I hope to continue adding to it for a little while. I've got some fun ideas for it!)

Also some blog things: changed the blog name to reflect some plural figurings out, ahah! Turns out I'm two people and only one of them is called Tephra.

I recently was finally prescribed some ADHD meds and they've been a game changer, so hopefully I can work on my art more consistently now!

Two projects in the works atm, this one and a pixel animation. The latter is too early in the planning stages to feel worth sharing, but I'm hoping to come back later and share a WIP!

Ahhh whoops, haven't posted here in ages! I was working on a big art piece for a friend and they asked me not to share it online. But since that's finished, I've been trying to figure out where to focus myself next!

I was originally gonna finish the werewolf base, buuuut there's been some internal identity reshuffling and I feel far more connected to my feral wolf-self again, so making a ref for that is my priority now!

That said, I'll probably share the base for others to use too, when it's done. I'm going to be drawing a summer and winter coat version (this is summer!) and I might add some other alt features as well. I have some ideas I'd like to play around with, but we'll see how long my attention holds out!

ANYWAY I'm here to say I'd finally like to take an art request or two!

THEME IS DRAGONS. I WANNA DRAW DRAGONS.

And more specifically I would LOVE to draw some dragon kintypes, linktypes, kinsonas, hearttypes, and/or system members who are dragons! Or anything along those lines! I know you folks are out there, let me draw yous!

Yes, this is completely free. No, I'm not taking commissions, sorry!

Will probably be in my usual clean lined digital style. May be shaded or unshaded, depending on what I feel like doing. Generally I find fullbodies more fun so that's what you can expect by default!

You can specify ideas for pose, expression, etc., or if you want art for a specific purpose, such as an avatar or ref sheet.

I'm happy to work from a text description if you're happy to exchange messages with me to make sure I get it right!

Not first-come, first-serve. More like I'll draw whatever sparks my inspiration and do as many as I feel like doing. My levels of energy and motivation are unpredictable so I can't really give any idea of how many I'll end up drawing.

I'm more likely to be inspired if you tell me a bit about the subject and why you'd like art of them!

Art received is for personal, non-commercial use only and cannot be modified or distributed without my permission. That means no feeding it to AI, no selling prints of it, no tracing, etc.

Been in a big of an art drought lately. I dunno why really, just not been in a digital art mood I guess. '^^ But today I was possessed by the need to draw a t-rex so that's what I did! I don't draw enough dinosaurs. (I love dinosaurs. And other prehistoric things).

I tried to make this as accurate as I could, but I'm no paleoartist askdhkasjhdjksa!! Mainly I shoot for accuracy cause it's a fun challenge. Plus I just like my dinos to look like real animals, and the best way to do that is staring at rex skeletons for hours!

If I ever get round to finishing this then I'll probably make it a free-to-use OC base. The world needs more tyrannosaur OCs! (I don't have any dino OCs but drawing this made me tempted to correct that!)
