There is no planet b
By Tyler Neff
Throughout the winters that I have lived I have
seen it snow a couple feet and I have also seen no snow fall at all, however when I listen to my grandparents stories they talk of snow that engulfs the entire house and to get out they have to escape through the upstairs windows. To me that is unheard of.
And as much as I love summer and warm weather, we just keep seeing less and less snow every year. This is because of climate change. We emit so much CO2 in the air that we can actually see changes in our environment and sooner or later if something doesn’t
happen then we will see changes in our weather patterns.
To begin, the purpose of the research
I have been doing is to continue to bring up the precautions of emitting CO2 into our atmosphere and what it is actually doing. I believe if we do not act and put up regulations and make people aware of the repercussions of manmade climate change then things
will only spiral into things we cannot fix. I think it would be very beneficial to produce and promote more economically safe cars and even promote more electric cars. I believe if we revise our pollution regulations and restrict corporation’s ability to pollute
and what they can pollute then we can have a much safer healthy environment for our future. I’m hoping this subject gets brought to the attention of all of the young adults in the world because they are our future. I am sure that many young adults do not know
enough facts to get them on board with this plan. I believe making climate change appeal to a teenager would benefit the cause immensely because we are the ones who are going to have to live on this planet. We always hear all of this hype about looking for
new planets to immigrate to and all of this money being spent to try to make an immigration possible but instead of spending millions on a space exploration why not direct that to healing our own planet to make it more sustainable for future generations.
Secondly in my CPAA I have examined
a politically debated topic regarding climate change and if it was man made or a natural accordance. Through my CPAA I have looked at many debates and scholarly along with unreliable sources to determine if climate change is mainly caused by human interactions
and carelessness. While viewing my first source John Oliver did a great job by using pathos to crush the opposing view. He basically peer pressured you into thinking humans were the main source of climate change. In his program called
Last Week Tonight
he
did not even include any reliable rebuttals and had very little credibility. After viewing another website, (‪debate.org‬)
I could see both sides of the argument played out. It was very effective to persuade me one way over the other with multiple sources implemented to back up their hypothesis’. After viewing both the video with John Oliver and ‪Debate.org‬ I had come to the conclusion
in my CPAA that climate change is affected by humans.
I
believe that in order to stress the importance of climate change greenpeace would do the best job on distributing that information. Greenpeace’s goal is to make a greener healthier earth by doing several renewable energy projects. Greenpeace started by a group
of activists who joined together in 1971 and sailed to alaska to protect from nuclear testing. From there it grew into a bigger organization that is now covering several projects including climate change. I chose this organization because greenpeace is a reliable
well known organization that people will listen too. I believe that producing a commercial that will exploit some of the ways we are polluting and view them in negative ways it will create a positive effect on the economy. We would use pathos in the video
to change the author's view on how we produce things. From this commercial i hope to spark ideas inside of people's heads to start inventing things to create a cleaner environment
For
starters i would post it on Youtube in hopes that the commercial would trend. To expand it further i would pitch this idea of a commercial to Greenpeace where we could put at the bottom of the ad to donate to the cause at Greenpeace. If greenpeace takes my
idea then we could set up fundraiser and ask for donations. Our first target would be national televisions stations that is aired all across the country, for example national geographic. That way we spend the least amount of money to broadcast it in as many
places as possible
Finally if we act now then we can prevent more
harmful effects occurring in the near future however if we wait the possibilities for disasters are unimaginable. By creating this video we might be able to show some people what is happening to our environment and it might help persuade these people to get
involved and making it more aware to people. Along with that it will help greenpeace on their current goal to solve the global warming crisis. In retrospect publicising this video will create a positive controversy and make the world more aware of the negative
effects of climate change.

Vocalizing Sexual Assault Survivors & Supporters
In late 2017, we’ve learned about many sexual abusers in Hollywood and their victims. Alyssa Milano was the woman who came up with the “Me Too Movement.” Many people retweeted and posted on Facebook with the simple hashtag “Me too” to symbolize that they have been victims of sexual assault. These admissions gave no story while some had explained their incidents. It was shocking to see how many people had written “Me too” on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The Me Too Movement was a surprisingly success in showing the victims, but this was also highlighting the issue of sexual assault and who does and doesn’t report it.
The Me Too Movement was brought into the light after Harvey Weinstein was outed as a sexual predator in Hollywood. Alyssa Milano had started the movement over Twitter on October 15th, which was a little over a week after Weinstein was outed. The purpose was the shine light on the issue of sexual assault and who it has affected. With this is place, people can seek out help if they wish to proceed in some manner whether that is legal action, psychological help, or just even want someone to lend an ear. RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) are here to help these people find the help that they need.
Before Harvey Weinstein, America was looking at Brock Turner. An American college student who was charged with the rape of a woman, who remains unidentified by choice, at a party. He was caught pants down, behind a dumpster raping said woman (now called Emily Doe). He was labeled as misguided, and a star athlete for the swim team at Stanford University. His defense had blamed Emily Doe for going out and getting too drunk to remember anything. Turner was sentenced to six months in jail for three felonies all related to sexually assaulting Emily Doe. He was released from prison after 3 months. The media had sparked outrage for the lack of proper justice for Emily Doe, but people were still blaming her for ruining Brock Turner’s swim career. Many stating that he could’ve gone on to swim for the USA in the Olympics. This narrative still shows that people are still willing to place blame on the victim instead of the offender. With that in mind, many people don’t report their sexual assault due to the stigma of it, and whether anyone will believe them. Emily Doe was only fortunate enough for a slight amount to have been found by two men on their bikes.
The media I plan to use for this project is by simple decals that state “#MeToo”. These decals can be purchased for $3.00 with $1.50 of the purchase going as a donation to RAINN. The decals can be stuck on car windows, bumped, laptops, backpacks, windows, etc. Car decals are a great moving billboard for your own personal agenda. Many people have them on their cars showcasing popular tourist attracts, favorite bands, political affiliation, or simply the outline of their state. The other $1.50 of the money made from creating the decals will be put towards purchasing the vinyl to create decals in a variety of different colors. With how big of an impact the Me Too Movement was this can help shed the light on helping survivors or simply being a supportive of victims of sexual assault.
The one area where I’m having difficulty is with the look for the decals. Having the decals look a certain way with a fancier font markets towards a more feminine approach. This may hinder a man, who is also a victim, from making the purchase to show support. Finding the correct font that can be both appealing and gender neutral has proven to be difficult for this project. It’s not my goal to exclude victims of sexual assault, or their families looking to support the project.
Social media has been proven to be an effective tool to help spread the word on combating sexual assault. I plan on sharing my idea on Facebook and Instagram to show case the “Me Too” decal along with mentioning that proceeds will go towards RAINN. I have a good friend who has a large following on Instagram from her Etsy page who could help boost the sales of the decals.
With this project, I’m hoping to encourage others to reach out and fight the stigma that is sexual assault. The purpose to help bring attention to the issue along with supporting the victims. Showing people that victims will not be silenced.

Equity is Not Equality: RIA Final
Allison Haubenstricker

RIA
Every 26 seconds, a child drops out of school in the United States. Every child and their situation is different, but if children are dropping out that steadily, could there be a pattern as to why? From financial situations, struggling with bad grades, or even just a rough home life can lead a child to second guess their educational future. As a first-year college student that plans to major in an area that will take me almost eight years to complete, it’s hard to focus on anything but the long road to my degree. However, many children don’t get to earn their degree, and many people have concluded that it is due to unfair educational practices. If educational equity was put into practice, students all over the United States would be able to reach their full potential instead of giving up on themselves before they’ve even started.
A topic that is in dire need of attention throughout our country is whether or not the education system practices equality. After doing more research on my topic through my CPAA, I have come across different sources that clarify the entire situation. These sources highlighted the difference between equity and equality, which can make all the difference in the public school system. Through the process of my campaign, I would like to raise awareness to how neglectful the education system acts towards certain people. In their efforts to practice equality, they are only enforcing privilege upon everyone who can afford it, and ignoring those who can’t. Everyone goes through the education system in the United States, starting at roughly 5 years old, and for the next 15-20 years they continue to progress through it. When they’re that young, they don’t really have much of a say in their education. Instead, their parents and teachers get to decide what is best for them. But as they grow closer to being adults, they in turn begin to think more critically for themselves and others. I also hope to reach high schoolers and college students who have a large impact on what they say and do. Whatever they say, many other people begin to repeat and form their own opinions on. All that I’m hoping to do is to get the conversation started and then let people think for themselves.
The media’s attention is oftentimes drawn in different directions instead of focusing on something as complex as educational equity. Majority of the population has almost no opinion on the subject because they don’t understand it or how it affects the youth. However, those who do understand the idea are very willing to express their opinion on the subject. Oftentimes entire organizations are more willing to voice their opinion on the subject of educational equity compared to single individuals. These organizations, such as the National Civil Rights Museum and The Leadership Conference, usually dedicate much of their time to expressing their thoughts, trying to teach the public more about the subject, and working to bring about a change in classrooms across the United States.
Nowadays we live in the technology era. I’m trying to reach younger generations, and I thought that a good media outlet for the information that I’m trying to convey would be Facebook. It’s a page entitled “Education Equity,” where I am filling it with interesting videos, links, and posts that will give others an opportunity to understand the dilemma in our public school system. An outlet like Instagram would provide more pictures, wouldn’t easily help the public understand the message, and it wouldn’t let those interested in the program connect with others with the same interest. Twitter, with it’s character limit, seemed to be another unlikely choice because it would limit the information. So I chose Facebook because many people have an account and therefore more people can see the page, it’s very easy for people to spread posts and such, and it provides the public with a way to connect and contact the organization.
The program that I have been designing this Facebook Page for is called LEE, which stands for Leadership for Educational Equity. They are a group that reaches out to teachers and other educators across the U.S. to help them apply whatever equity they can to their classrooms. While the group has been working on their outreach, there is much to be done to effectively reach their target audience of older students, concerned parents, and even teachers that are willing to do what they believe will help their students. I made sure to include different posts such as videos, texts, and links that provide the public with different ways to comprehend the equity crisis.
If LEE can help affect all of the teachers in one public school, how much would that affect the dropout rate? The organization is nationwide, but if it can be enforced and practiced throughout the nation’s schools, then students will be enrolling instead of giving up on their futures. Teachers need to understand that not all students learn in the same way and must be able to work around that. Once equity is finally applied to classrooms, many more students will be able to reach their full potential, and more than only 26 seconds will go by without a child giving up on their future.

How Public Is Education?: CPAA Final Analysis
Allison Haubenstricker
Joe Lewis
English 111
13 November, 2017
In a society where advancements are being made across all cultures and topics, a few topics remain a bit more controversial than others. Education is constantly being questioned about whether or not it is fairly distributed to students across the United States. Over the course of this paper I will be analyzing different sources that try to answer that question. I find this topic very interesting and important because I am pursuing a degree that requires me to go to college for eight years and I have two young siblings that will be going through public school education for the next four years.
Nowadays, people all across the world use the internet as their main news outlet. One source on the topic of education is a video by the National Civil Rights Museum, in their video entitled “Education Equity: Education is a Civil Right.” This is a stance formed by an entire organization, and not just by one individual like most pieces of writing are which helps it seem far more organized and concrete. The National Civil Rights Museum created this video in order to help others learn from history, like all museums do. However, in this instance they are trying to actively bring about a change to the education system, by asking people from struggling areas to act as mentors to students who have the ability to do better. The group references multiple facts, and focuses on the low-income families and schools that can’t provide for their students as well as other public schools. Despite the fact that there is no narration over the video, it is still effective because the reader is forced to read the captions across the screen which makes them more connected to what they are reading rather than just someone lecturing to them about the same subject. The video draws the audience in with a hook by asking their reader to place themselves in a situation, which intrigues the reader in the conversation before it begins to get more in depth. It then begins to appeal to the audience’s logos, or logic, by supplying them with multiple facts that show how truly unfair the education system is. The facts that they are supplying soon turn somber and provide an appeal to pathos, influencing the audience to feel bad about the large amount of people that are affected by these statistics. This video provides multiple examples of how the education system in the United States is really lacking when it comes to supplying fair education to those that can’t afford more. It focuses in on how the wage gap is also creating an education gap, and how people from these high-poverty neighborhoods really need to step up in order to boost the importance of education.
An article with a similar stance attributes different reasons for this phenomenon in schools. Titled “Equity and Equality Are Not Equal,” writer Blair Mann explains that despite the fact that the education system is, in fact, very close to equal, it does not work to help those who need more in order to get the same education. The author worked for this blog called “The Education Trust” before retiring. She has a degree in political science from Philadelphia University and a master’s degree from George Washington University in public policy. After graduating, she worked in Washington D.C. for a U.S. Representative. In this article she addresses not only people who believe that education is equal, but also those that believe that it isn’t. Instead of actively trying to seek her reader’s support, Ms. Mann tries to get her reader to understand the flaw in many people’s thoughts on the education system. The majority of her paper is an appeal to logos, explaining how the education system is not applying basic principles that would be better for those that are struggling. To end the article she uses appeal to ethos by supplying her professional information at the bottom of the page, making it rather easy for the reader to see what an expert she is. Instead of trying to get the reader to see things her way, the writer focuses on trying to level the playing field and simply explaining the difference between two concepts. The writer is able to help the audience understand that because these different parties cannot communicate well, they are fighting for rather useless reasons. Many people debate between whether or not the education system is equal mainly because they don’t view the term ‘equal’ the same way. Ms. Mann introduces a different idea, 'equity,’ which really means that different amounts of help are given to people so that in the end, they are all on the same level. She also clarifies that equality is simply putting in the same amount of effort for everyone while ignoring their circumstances.
Another video that explored the situation of continuous divide regarding education is entitled “Ensuring Educational Equity for All Students” by The Leadership Conference. The Leadership Conference is a group that focuses on civil rights for all. As a political group that seeks action, they are trying to get their readers to be active in the civil rights process. Their video and their entire organization is aimed to bring change, so their audience is anyone who is willing to help change the education standards. Throughout the video, a narrator explains their ideas on how the education system is unfair while animations describing what she’s speaking about play on the screen. In the video, she mainly focuses on appeal to logos by listing fact after fact about the state of public education, such as how often people drop out, how much education students are actually being provided with, and more. Much of this video is an appeal to logos, or logic, because it is using fact after fact to convince the audience that there is a problem. This video mainly focused on how different children have different educational struggles, such as those with disabilities and unfair educational disadvantages like poor school systems. Much like the article written by Blair Mann, this video also mentions the fact that instead of applying equality to students, we should be using equity so that it is much easier for them to reach the same level of education.
Out of my three sources, two of them, despite being from different medias, touched on the same idea of applying equity instead of equality. All of them agreed that the education system is not being fairly distributed to children across the United States, and request a call to action to the audience. These arguments have really helped me realize that the argument of education equality is much deeper than I originally thought. However, the problem is that much of the population still does not want to hear the argument. Many continue to point fingers at other causes for this education gap, and others simply argue that there is no problem in the education system because it is equal. There are so many different areas to blame and really, education is equal. However, these articles have made me realize that education has no equity, and the only place we can point the blame to is at ourselves.

Final Draft CPAA
We didn’t start the fire: is climate change man made or a natural occurrence
Tyler Neff
Joe Lewis
English 111
11/19/17
As a early child my grandparents would tell me stories about snow and what it used to be. When my grandparents were in their prime, they used to recite that it used to snow so much that it blocked them into their homes and to get out they would have to leave through their attic windows. Nowadays we are lucky to find more than a foot of snow outdoors and this is partially due to climate change. Climate change has been a popular debate recently because we are starting to see effects of climate change on us right now. Consequently temperatures are on the rise, sea levels are rising and sea ice is melting. Some argue the fact that climate change is mainly due to human influences, but others argue that climate change is just a natural occurrence that happens.
My first source was a clip of a popular show called Last Week Tonight which is kinda like a saturday night live show where it persuades its audience by making fun of the opposing side. In this case John Oliver, who is the host of the show, is for man made climate change. He tries to persuade his viewers with ethos by bringing on a guest to the show whose name is Bill Nye. even though John Oliver has won a peabody award, nine primetime awards, and three writers guild awards he does not have any real qualifications to win the hearts of his viewers. In this situation John brought Bill Nye on the show who is a little more qualified to fight this fight. Bill is a american science communicator, a very popular television presenter on his show “Bill Nye the Science Guy” and a mechanical engineer.
In this clip John Oliver starts by stating that it is crazy that their is still a debate on whether or not climate change is man made. He then led into saying if there was still a debate there are enough facts to prove human made climate change many times over. John explains his argument by backing it up with facts on global temperatures rising, sea levels rising, and sea ice melting. He then used logos again to further back his argument by including a quote from IOPscience “97% endorsed the... position that humans are causing global warming” if 97% of the population agrees that the rapid climate change we see is mainly caused by humans why are we still debating it. John concludes the clip by bringing another, more credible person into his argument. By bringing Bill Nye into his argument it appealed to the viewers ethos. Even though he brought Bill into the video Bill did not get to bring any arguments or facts to the table.
After viewing this video on youtube it left me wondering what were some of the arguments of the opposing side i tried viewing some scholarly articles to get some better info on the opposing side other than www.debate.org .
This source was two authors who debated the topic one was for one was against the topic. In this article they would go through 5 rounds and the public would vote on which side had the more convincing argument. On the pro side a man with the username vicordr was for human caused climate change. Victordr had never won a debate and had no other qualifications to the subject which made his opinion almost useless. However victordr had used multiple sources and intense research using big credible names such as new york times. The person disputing victordr’s claims was a man named Roy Latham who has a little more credibility(but not much . Roy had a career in aircraft navigation. He is also the founder of computer graph system development corp. Which is a engineering company. To top it off on w ww.debate.org Roy has won 93% of his debates (222/241) but overall neither person has any credibility to the subject.
The website is set up as a debate, there are five rounds the first round is the opening statement followed by three rebuttals and ending with a closing statement. Victordr opened his debate by appealing to pathos by creating a picture in your head of polar bears dying because of sea ice melting. He brings up the point that greenhouse emissions have been rapidly increasing since the industrial revolution Roy counters victordr’s argument by bringing up the roman warm period. He furthers his rebuttal by restating that yeah, polar bears are dying right now because of sea ice melting but the earth cools or warms about .19 degrees per year for example the medieval warm period. To rebuttal that, victordr continues on with the argument and tries to take the lead by bringing up the fact that the increased amount of CO2 caused by humans is causing acid rain. Acid rain could bring a slur of problems from things to crop contamination to things like thousands of dollars in property damage (erosion) Roy did not have a way to counter that he did bring up the fact that sea ice comes and goes in a sixty year cycle further backing up the fact that humans cannot cause this big of an impact on climate change.
After looking through their disagreements and polite insults with clever rebuttals for a couple hours i found their arguments getting repetitive and found that no new information was being added to the table so i looked for another author, someone who had more credibility, since my last two sources did not have much, and thought maybe they would bring a better argument to both sides of the argument.
While scavenging for well known scholarly articles i came across an article that made me want to invest my time in it. www.Insideclimatenews.org had an interesting layout of information and an author that went by the name John H. Cushman who kinda reminded me of a mix of my grandpa and santa claus. Cushman has been an editor for New york times for thirty-five years until he became an editor for insideclimate.org. He also has extensive backgrounds on energy, environment, and military affairs. He served on the board of governors on national press club and was president of that club in 2000.
The article John wrote was laid out in a normal fashion. He read two papers, one that was for man made climate change. It examined how sensitive is the earth to CO2 emissions where the second article was against man made climate change. The second article examined satellite images and determined whether or not if our global carbon emissions were affected by mankind. After studying the two opposing papers John concluded his evaluation by saying the two papers he studied had no effect on his opinion on if climate change is man made he concluded his paper by explaining that he would need more information to properly determine if climate change was influenced by man
I have learned a lot about my findings on climate change. The last source i found really gave me no good information on the subject at all. Even though Cushman was the most qualified to make arguments on the case did not. However john oliver used ethos logos and pathos the best to persuade his audience as well to give factual evidence on the subject. Lastly victordr and Roy did a great job disputing one another's arguments. From what i have uncovered if climate change is man made and we don't do anything to prevent climate change,
things are only going to get worse but if we do try something to stop climate change then we might be able to prevent greater catastrophe in the future.

Rough Draft CPAA
By Tyler Neff
Ever since i was a little kid i have heard stories and seen tv shows of snow covering houses and blocking people in. After these past couple winters i've noticed less and less snow to the point where it barely covers the ground. This brought me to the point where If climate change is not resolved then we will start to see mild changes at first such as temperature changes and increase to things as bad as immense droughts and brutal storms that can cost millions of dollars in property damages and food shortages. After i did some digging around some i came across arguments about wondering if climate change was caused by man or if it is a natural process by our mother earth.
Ever since the industrial revolution global warming has been an increasingly devastating problem. CBS states that the US alone emits 2.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and it is rising each year. All of these greenhouse gasses that are being put into our atmosphere is causing them to trap more heat which warms up the earth. In return Procon.org insures that the earth has always heated up and cooled down, this is merely just another fluctuation and that this is just earths cycle. Additionally, procons.org also builds onto their argument by citing the chinese science bulletin. They said that this is just a part of a 21 year cycle. So we have been experiencing global heating and cooling for centuries and that a new cooler period will be seen in 2030s. Although Richard Houghton and George Woodwell who is a winner of the heinz award, and the volvo enterprise award, argues that it's way bigger than a 21 year cycle. George and Richard begin by saying our global temperatures have been on the rise since the 19th century and getting worse since we started deforestation and burning coal. By doing so it is damaging the carbon cycle increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. However Stacy D. Stinson, who is a part of the Climate Change - an open discussion group on facebook disagrees with Richard and Georges article she posted “Let's consider this carefully. Water Vapor is also a very powerful greenhouse gas. And because there's so much of it, it is actually in a sense the strongest of all the greenhouse gasses. But it's controlled by the natural system. It doesn't matter how much we add into it. The level is not going to change for that reason.” (climate Change - an open discussion).
In retrospect both sides agree that the earth is heating rapidly but some people believe that humans do not emit nearly enough see any difference and that this is just part of a cycle that changes every 21 years. The other side has tracked even further back and came to the conclusion that humans are the main cause of this dramatic shift in temperatures. I was persuaded more by the people who believe that climate change is being affected by humans because they have provided more noteworthy facts by credible authors. As well with more persuasive logos, i have encountered personal connections to the subjects from George and Richard and they were more logical and organized than the accusations against human caused climate change. I feel like this opens up new areas to explore such as how much are industries really putting into the atmosphere and new arguments on regulations that need to be implemented.

Rough Draft CPAA
Colby Peruski
English 111
 Illegal Immigration: The Unidentified Cost
Illegal immigration from the border of Mexico has produced just over 5.5 million undocumented immigrants that have entered the United States. That is a staggering amount which is over half of all illegal immigrants in the entire U.S., should be a wake-up call to this crisis. Overall the main point of this cultural issue is how we deal with these people coming to the U.S. and what we have done about it. Too many people are coming in undocumented and this poses to a problem on economy on multiple levels, along with national security. My personal connection for wanting to talk about this issue is on an interpersonal basis when people talk about this issue as well as social media sites.
When looking through online articles the reason for wanting to explore more about illegal immigration I wanted to focus more on how DACA affects us in more ways than one, and various other ways for how we can find solutions or what to do with illegal immigration systems.
Using online search engines and the school’s library EBSCO database I’ve found a website called the American Thinker, and was struck by an article called “DACA Was a Bad Dream” by Daniel John Sobieski. The situation in this article is if president Trump should end DACA or not and how we should look at the background to give us an idea on if we need it. The author is giving his ethos beliefs about the subject because he believes this is a nation of immigrants but legal immigrants, and that it is a country of law so we need to take care of the “illegal” in this issue. Throughout this piece Daniel brings out strong and credible things that help us understand why DACA is a troubled system, but he fails to make the point that besides his beliefs he doesn’t have facts. Facts would help us not rely on his passion against DACA and give us a reason why we should want to abolish this program.
Next, is an article by Adam Davison called “Do Illegal Immigrants Actually Hurt the U.S.?” which I believe has done a little more homework than the previous article. Davison throughout keeps Pathos emotions out of the question and gives us credibility based on statistics given. As he states, and points out how immigrants that are here illegally aren’t actually a big problem on our economy, it is in areas where there are tons of illegals in one area. This provoked questions on if illegal immigration is actually hurting the economy.
Lastly, is an article called “Weighing the Pros and Cons of U.S. Mexico Border Barrier” written by Jennifer Mcfadyen of the ThoughtCo. Writing group. She tries to persuade us that the border is needed because she uses an emotion appeal by saying it costs us so much money and tries to snag your mind with giant amounts of numbers. It helps her persuade us with what tugs at our pathos emotions. Additionally, she gives us less statistics on what could help us learn on this topic, along with other forms illegal immigration effects. Her credibility is also diminished to me because she’s so broad with her topics and how she explains them. The purpose of this article from what I could understand was to persuade us on why we need the border wall, not so much weighing the pros and cons.
All of these articles that I’ve analyzed has given me an understanding on how bias, purpose, and even the audiences of these authors change people’s perception of various forms of illegal immigration debates. I believe since people are tugging at the heart strings of pathos, ethos, and logos and it’s taken our realization that certain things could be beneficial and some are not beneficial. People like the authors I’ve provided are instigating issues that have been discussed over and over, and people need to look at FACTS and statistics not just remarks of those they look up to.

Sexual Assault in the Entertainment Industry - Proposal
This cultural problem facing America right now is sexual assault, and why victims stay quiet when they shouldn’t be. Victims are often branded as lying and trying to get something for free. Not to mention the stigma behind it all. In some cases, friends and family refuse to believe the victim. You’re questioned about whether you’re sure it’s actually happened. Whether you’re certain the other person just didn’t realize what was going on. Then there is the chance that your case does go to court, do they have enough evidence to prove your claim? Many cases are dismissed due to lack of physical evidence to support their claim. This can also lead to the victim being branded a liar after the trial.  We’ve seen this in case of Emily Doe, the victim in the Brock Turner case, where she was constantly under pressure about whether she conseted or not. The excuse that maybe she shouldn’t have gone out to a party. If she would’ve just stayed home Brock wouldn’t be in trouble. While this is a case for young adults in a party setting, things like this are happening at a professional level. Women and men at work are being sexual assaulted every day. In the American entertainment industry, it’s been a rumor for many years that there has been sexual assault going on behind closed doors. No one has come out for fear of their career and life being ruined. In the beginning of October 2017 the entertainment industry was shaken by multiple sexual assault allegations.
Harvey Weinstein is just an example of abusers with power in the entertainment industry. Powerful companies like the Weinstein Company have a grasp on who makes it and who doesn’t in Hollywood. For years we’ve heard rumors about this behavior, but no one has really pushed for justice. For several months Ronan Farrow has been investigating these claims of sexual assault at the hands of Harvey Weinstein. Ashley Judd had mentioned back in 2015 that she was sexually harassed by a studio mogul when she was working on a film in the 1990’s. This studio mogul was recently announced by Judd herself that it was Harvey Weinstein. Her statement along with the women Ronan Farrow has interview has created a snowball effect. More and more victims are speaking out against Weinstein. One of them was Rose McGowan who was pressured by Weinstein to keep things quiet. He threatened her career and making sure she wasn’t hired by studios.
Ronan Farrow published an article on The New Yorker titled “From Aggressive Overtures to Sexual Assault: Harvey Weinstein’s Accusers Tell Their Stories.” Over the course of 10 months, Farrow interviews 13 women who were brave enough to come forward with their encounters. Five days before his article was published, an article written by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey was published on The New York Times titled “Harvey Weinstein Paid Off Sexual Harassment Accusers for Decades.” Many of the stories by the women that Farrow interviewed cross hairs with Kantor and Twohey’s article. Farrow gives a voice to those who need it, and offer further insight to what’s really happening in the entertainment industry.

How Public Is Education? RD
The group references multiple facts, and focuses on the low-income families and schools that can't provide for their students as well as other public schools. This video provides multiple examples of how the education system in the United States is really lacking when it comes to supplying fair education to those that can't afford more. It focuses in on how the wage gap is also creating an education gap, and how people from these high-poverty neighborhoods really need to step up in order to boost the importance of education.
In an article titled “Equity and Equality Are Not Equal,” writer Blair Mann explains that despite the fact that the education system is, in fact, very close to equal, it does not work to help those who need more in order to get the same education. The author worked for this blog called “The Education Trust” before retiring. She has a degree in political science from Philadelphia University and a master’s degree from George Washington University in public policy. After graduating, she worked in Washington D.C. for a U.S. Representative. In this article she addresses not only people who believe that education is equal, but also those that believe that it isn't. Instead of actively trying to seek her reader's support, Ms. Mann tries to get her reader to understand the flaw in many people's thoughts on the education system. Many people debate between whether or not the education system is equal mainly because they don't view the term 'equal' the same way. Ms. Mann introduces a different idea, 'equity,' which really means that different amounts of help are given to people so that in the end, they are all on the same level.
Throughout the video, a narrator explains their ideas on how the education system is unfair while animations describing what she's speaking about play on the screen.

America Needs Feminism
Women make up 50% of the population on Earth. We’re strong, smart, and capable of many things. Marie Curie was a scientist who made the very important discovery of Radium in the early 1900’s. This major discovery paved the way for medical devices like x-ray machines. While this was monumental, the barriers to Madame Curie were even greater. Women didn’t have jobs outside of the home. Their jobs were to take care of their husbands and children. They were denied access to voting, jobs, and even their most basic human rights. Marie Curie is an excellent example of why we need feminism. This isn’t about demeaning men, it’s about being equal as a man. Even though it’s 2017, we’ve come so close but we keep getting pushed back. Let’s take a look into why we need feminism in the 21st century.
It’s a man’s world. As much as we like to make this joke in movies and TV it’s the truth in reality. While women are able to vote, work, and make other decisions based on what they believe it, we’re still being pushed around. Many women of color are restricted by voting due to gerrymandering and ID laws. Women may work hard, but our pay is still less compared to our male counterpart. It may seem like women have control over their own being, but this is far from the truth. Politically, the United States government is led by the male majority. (105 women in Congress, 21 women in Senate, 84 women in House of Representatives, and 5 delegates for American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, District of Columbia, and the Virgin Islands.) These numbers count for a small amount of each Chamber being served. This lack of women in each Chamber leads to a small portion of decisions regarding women’s health in the control of men.
Our healthcare has always been under scrutiny. Under Obama the United States passed the Affordable Care Act. It was a big step for universal healthcare for all in America. While it may not have been the best to begin with, it was a way for us to start. It’s estimated that 20 million people had signed up for healthcare with the Affordable Care Act. The ACA was a trailblazer for health care for many who couldn’t obtain it. It allowed children to stay on their parent’s plans until they were 26, and made insurance companies cover people with pre-existing conditions. Another health care perk from  the ACA was that  women were granted free birth control. A staple for many women across the country let alone the globe. This doesn’t just prevent unwanted pregnancy it’s an actual medication for millions of women facing issues related to their bodies. It’s frowned upon by some religions to even use contraceptives leading to the debate on whether your provider has the right to refuse birth control coverage. It’s a war, and it’s getting ugly. This issue had died down for a bit, but now with a new administration in town it’s back on the table. The Supreme Court never reached a decision on where employers should stand. There are 9 Supreme Court Justices, and out of them 3 are women. So here we have 6 men making that decision on what an employer can do when it comes to allowing birth control. That hardly seems like it would be fair. A man should not dictate what a woman can and cannot do with herself. If a woman needs birth control, then she should have access to it without any issues. Keeping it free will help women from not only unwanted pregnancies, but to help keep major diseases from becoming worse. An example would be Endometriosis. A disease that I unfortunately suffer from. I know firsthand the horror of having this and the constant pain it causes me. The treatment for Endometriosis is birth control. I’m not using it to be promiscuous, I’m simply using it so I can be a functioning adult. Without it I’ve had to endure horrible days and nights of pain where I can’t move, can’t eat, and can’t sleep. I depend on birth control for the rest of my life. Men cannot have Endometriosis, nor can they get pregnant, so why must a group of men make this decision for women?
It’s more than just the birth control debate. It’s our lives at stake here. Women are sexualized to no end. Movies, music, and TV have become worse over the years. Our bodies are under constant scrutiny. Kim Kardashian was made famous for her sex tape. A sex tape. She’s worth millions of dollars, but she’s constantly being picked on by the male, and female, population for what she looks like or what she talks about. No one stops and thinks about who she is as a person. It all comes back to her sex tape from over ten years ago. She’s a mother, a sister, an aunt, and a friend. People are criticizing her for her every little move. We have to stop and think about how we treat men. James Deen is one of the leading male adult film stars in the business. He’s got the looks, and he’s got the stamina to be an adult film star. He’s cool, he’s hot, he’s trendy, and no one bats an eye if he does something wrong. In fact, in recent years Deen has been accused of raping women and degrading them along with being physically, mentally, and emotionally abusive. Not just to one women but multiple; women he’s been in long term relationships with, and women on set. This came out in later 2015, and it’s now coming close to two years later. No one talks about it. There was to be a documentary regarding the allegations, but Deen allegedly took the signed release forms for the documentary. It was set to premiere on Showtime in July 2016 with an update regarding more allegations. The documentary is currently in limbo due to a lawsuit involving Deen. People are so quick to assume that these women are lying about these allegations. They are just looking for easy money. Like Kim Kardashian, which many people she married Kanye West simply due to his wealth. Women are constantly second guessed for what they say and do. Kardashian could come out and say she was sexually abused by a man, but many would say she deserved it. Why? Because it’s Kim Kardashian and she made a sex tape once so she is automatically lumped into the category of being “slutty”.
This behavior isn’t just limited to celebrities. Even on a local level we’re constantly blaming the victim for what’s happened to them. In the documentary “Audrie and Daisy” we see two teenage girls that are in high school in different parts of the United States. Both girls we’re raped at parties, with pictures of them being distributed around their school. The girls we’re labeled as “sluts” and harassed continuously. Due to the harsh treatment by her classmates Audrie Pott committed suicide by hanging. She was 15 years old. The juveniles in Audrie’s case were charged and sent to juvenile hall for their actions. But Audrie would not be able to return to life and live. The behavior conducted by the boys we’re the direct reason that Audrie Pott is not alive anymore. Simply because she was drunk and she wanted it, right? Daisy Coleman was 14 years old when she was sexually assaulted at a party with her 13-year-old friend Paige. Daisy was sexually assaulted by her older brother’s 17-year-old friend at the party while being unconscious after consuming too much alcohol. People stood by and watched, some filmed the event. When it was over, they took Daisy and Paige back to Daisy’s house. Paige made it inside, but Daisy was still passed out from all the alcohol consumption. She laid in the cold wet lawn until morning when her mother found her. Due to the town being close nit, and the 17-year-old being a star athlete, students and adults we’re quick to say that the girls we’re lying. The video of the sexual assault we’re never turned into the police as they believed they had been deleted. Daisy left school after continuous harassment at school and over social media. Her mother lost her job, and their house was set on fire. The accused student pleaded guilty to a less counter of misdemeanor count of child endangerment. It’s believed that his grandfather, a former state representative, was the reason for the lack of reasonable punishment. He received two years of probation with a delayed sentence of four months if he violated his probation terms. Daisy and her family moved shortly after their house was set on fire. She now travels around the country to help educate others about the dangers of sexual assault and cyber bullying.
With the stories of sexual assault, along with the health care debate, we need feminism to help put women first. A woman's ability to make her own decisions without the judgment of a man is important for the world. We’re humans, we bleed like men do, and we can work just as hard as men. Our voices are strong, and we’re more than just a sexual object to keep men happy. We deserve better than what we’ve been given.

Judgement Day: Has the Greed of Fortune 500 Companies Led Us to Our Doom
Blog post #2 By; Tyler Neff At first glance we think of climate change as a worldwide problem starting from our Carbon Footprint. Although we have regulations on how much we can put into the air, the United States is still the second largest contributor to carbon emissions in the world. But if we take a deeper look into Climate change we can find other contributing factors such as the ecological footprint. This brings up the question why haven't corporations acknowledged the ecological footprint. Equally important, the ecological footprint can possibly reduce the U.S. carbon emissions. So why have corporations ignored this subject entirely? To clarify CEO’s are like hustlers, they do not care about what happens to the environment, they only care about how they can benefit their company. At this moment we are overusing our materials which leads consumers to try more radical ways to extract the resources. For example in recent years fracking has been a increasingly popular choice for consumers. Not only does this increase our carbon emissions in the united states but it also destroys our earth by polluting our water and soil. While searching online i found a source called Human Impact on the Environment & Environmental Impact on Humans by Madison Powers. A well credible source Madison powers is a professor of philosophy, he writes many journal articles and books that have been published. His primary focus is Climate Change. He also researches topics that consist of justice in public health and social philosophy. I stumbled upon Madison Powers on google while trying to deepen my research on the ecological footprint. I have learned that his primary audience is philosophers and scientists. I hope as i continue that i learn new, useful information that i can use to persuade my audience as effectively and efficiently as Madison powers persuaded his.

Who Are We Educating?
The incoming financial cuts run deep, especially in the public school system. As a result of these cuts, multiple news sources have spoken out to inform more people about what is coming. One of these articles is “President Trump’s Education Budget” by Elizabeth Mann. She attends Brown University and studies governance policies, while also being the Center on Education Policy for the Brookings website. In an effort to inform parents of children who will be affected by the cuts and all adults that work in the education system about the state of the public school system, she states her facts very plainly while also being non biased so people can decide about the issue at hand for themselves.
President Trump plans to cut 13.5% of the education budget, which is already underfunded. They are cutting all of that money from the federal budget, and expecting states to pay for more of their public school systems. However, these states and low-income areas are already struggling to keep up with the demands of their students in their public schools. As a result, more and more students from inner city public schools are going to be pushed through the system, instead of actually be instructed and taught. The fact that these kids from areas with high poverty rates are going to continue to decrease in their level of education compared to other areas, means that the education gap will become larger.
The fact that the gaps between our children are growing larger is really disappointing. We are supposed to be accepting to these people who are attempting to work past their circumstances, but instead we are excluding them and making it far more difficult to work towards something that everyone deserves: an education. When the same group of people are continually getting an inferior education compared to others, there is a problem. A system like education is supposed to be provided to all people no matter their situations. ‘Public’ means ‘concerning people as a whole,’ but when a large group of people are not getting fair educations in the public school system, it cannot fairly be called that. Not everyone in our country is able to get the education that they deserve, simply because they do not have the same access that others have.

Education Cuts Deep Revised
It is quite obvious that the United States is having financial issues. The United States is now over $20 trillion in national debt and we are no closer to lowering than number than it was before it reached it. In an attempt to lower that number as much as possible, the federal government has been making cuts from various areas but by far, the deepest budget cuts have been towards education. The budget cuts to education will affect all types of people across the country, and make it harder for people to get fair access to education.
The right to have an education is a universal human right, meaning that no matter the circumstances, one should be allowed the opportunity to learn. In the United States, children are even required to go to school. But simply because they have the opportunity to go to school, doesn’t mean that it is fairly offered towards all people. Sadly, the quality of one’s education still depends on where one lives and how much wealth their family has, leaving poor families to only continue to be poor while rich families continue to be rich simply because one cannot afford further education and another can.
There is a growing divide between first and middle class families across the country. This affects the state of our children’s education because taxes for public schools are taken in by the local government, not the federal government. Neighborhoods where more people are in the middle and lower classes are unable to pay high taxes whereas first class citizens are taxed higher, and therefore more money goes toward their public schools. This only furthers the divide between not only our classes, but our generation’s educations. More people are beginning to realize the growing problem in the public school system and are trying to tell people about what’s going on, like in the LA Times’ article, “Seven Things You Need to Know About How Trump’s Budget Would Affect Schools Nationwide.” Finally the federal government has been urged to step in, but not in the way that everyone was hoping for.
Education seems to be the only tool that helps us land careers, but when it continues to grow more expensive and harder to get a good version of, it seems like a rather impossible situation. As a first year college student that plans to go into a field that requires eight years of college in total, I am appalled at how the education system is evolving. The government is sadly using students for their money and when it does offer help to students, it does so unfairly. Our education system is failing us, but we have become too dependent to do be able to do anything about it. Throughout the next few weeks, I will make sure to research more flaws in the education system and work to produce alternatives that will further education for everyone while also being a good middle ground for all parties.

For the Love of Mother Earth (revised) by Tyler Neff
For many years now we have abused the way we use fossil fuels, and how burning these fossil fuels change our global temperatures. Right now we are at the beginning stages of Climate change which is the fluctuation of temperatures. As it continues to get worse sea ice will melt making sea levels rise, changes in climate, and droughts. For example in the united states we contribute to this climate change by driving cars or heating our homes. Corporations in the United States constantly emit carbon dioxide. What is even worse is the amount of materials being used up. Although corporations made some attempts to make climate change aware, they have only scratched the surface. Brand name businesses such as Speedway and Chevrolet only promote themselves to alter the carbon footprint. Nevertheless the carbon footprint is the lead supporting cause of climate change. However there is more than just one contributing factor to climate change. Therefore, why are big businesses keeping the ecological footprint out of the public's reach and only focusing on our carbon footprint? While digging up research about climate change I found a lot of articles conversing about our carbon footprint. Most of the articles brought up the fact that carbon footprint was the burning of fossil fuels and their emissions into our atmosphere. Other websites went on to inform the reader that when these fossil fuels are burned and emitted they trap heat in our atmosphere and absorb more of the sun's rays. However I came across a source that brought up a new contributing factor to climate change called our ecological footprint. To clarify the ecological footprint is how much materials people use vs how much the earth can produce. More particularly how much fossil fuels we use vs how fast the earth can produce them. This got me thinking about why are there no arguments over the ecological footprint. Experts explore the amount of resources used and they have came back with data saying we use our fossil fuels faster than our earth can produce them. I believe that in addition to the carbon footprint the ecological footprint is of equal importance. I believe that the ecological footprint is not brought up in culture today because because bringing up our ecological footprint into a political debate would mean people would buy less. I inquire that i've only begun to scratch the surface of why businesses avoid the ecological footprint.  I also think that the only reason we see articles and ad campaigns on carbon footprints is because this topic has been receiving a lot of attention. Therefore i believe corporations are trying to avoid the ecological footprint idea from hitting the spot light. I plan on researching further into my hypothesis to find out why the ecological footprint is being left out of conversation, what it would mean if we brought the ecological footprint into perspective. As well as looking further into the ecological footprint i am going to explore the carbon footprint more. I want to try to find how the carbon footprint might affect climate change and how these restrictions affect corporations

Education Cuts Deep
It is quite obvious that the United States is having financial issues. We are now over $20 trillion in national debt and we are no closer to lowering that number than we were before we reached it. The Federal government, in an attempt to lower that number as much as possible, has been making cuts from various areas but the deepest cuts have, by far, been to our country's education program. The budget cuts to education will affect the lower class, college students, and students in special agencies and organizations by making it much harder for them all to get equal educations.
The right to have an education is a universal human right, meaning that no matter your circumstances, you should be allowed the opportunity to learn. In the United States, our children are even required to go to school. But simply because we have the opportunity to go to school, doesn’t mean that it is fairly offered towards all people. Sadly, the quality of your education still depends on where you live and how much wealth your family has, leaving poor families to only continue to be poor while rich families continue to be rich simply because one can afford further education and another cannot.
More people are beginning to realize the growing problem in the public school system and are trying to alert people about the situation, like in the LA Times’ article, “Seven Things You Need to Know About How Trump’s Budget Would Affect Schools Nationwide.” Finally the federal government has been urged to step in, but not in the way that everyone was hoping for.
As the federal government continues to cut more and more money from the country’s public school system, a larger portion of the population is being left out of the equality that education is supposed to have. Pending legislation could pull money from Indian Reservation and Military base schools, leaving the youths that study there without the fair help that they need to further their education. Military base families sacrifice their lives for their country and Native Americans have already had their lives torn apart by the actions of this country, so to further disrespect them and not treat them as equals is unbelievable.
Now that they are applying their budget cuts, they are threatening to cut valuable programs that public schools are actively using to keep kids in school and out of trouble. Programs such as these are literacy programs, Special Olympics education programs, and Community Learning Center programs among others. All of these groups focus on people that are struggling with school and they then work to encourage all types of people to get involved. But with the government breathing down their neck that they are going to cut their funding, they are forced to wonder how much of a difference they will make anymore.
Even those that are working to further their education are being punished for that decision. The incoming education cuts will affect college students and their ability to pay back their student loans. The cost of college is only rising, and this bill will force students to pay their student loans and interest while still in college. As someone who is going to be going to college for the next eight years, I think it is preposterous that they expect for me to make my student loans my first priority, when in reality I should be focusing on the education that I am obtaining with the help of those loans.
Education seems to be the only tool that helps us land careers, but when it continues to grow more expensive and demanding, it seems like a rather impossible situation. The government is exploiting students for their money and when it does offer help to students, it does so unfairly. Our education system is failing us, but we have become too dependent to be able to do anything about it.

Political Party fight
By Brody lewis
In America there is a problem that has been happening for years now. That problem has been the fight between political parties. I understand that these party's have there own views and the way they see some things but when they go against each other just because that party idea isn't there's, now that's wrong. To make change for the better you need to compromise with each other and for years now that has been being screwed up by each party. They want to make America amazing again but that isn't possible with some support from the opposing party.
And with the straight up hate for party to party that is not only messing us it's is also showing the world that we are divided. America is supposed to be a hole and united but how much separation can happen before something will happen. People who are part of a party won't even listen to what the other party has to say sometime so there output isn't educated. They just pick there side even tho the other person may have a lot of good idea.
If you think about it the past 241 years that this amazing country has been around there has been presidents from both parties who have done amazing things for the country. So don't judge a book by its cover give things a chance at least get some info from the other side of what your usual perspective is

Climate Change; Man Made or a Continuous Cycle
Over many years, our earth has undergone many changes, and most of these changes has to do with heating and cooling of our earth. Today, one of the biggest cultural issues debated is climate change. As today's temperatures fluctuate, our world is once again changing leaving us with droughts, severe tropical storms, and changing currents. In previous years temperatures have been reaching all time highs. This sparks the debate for scientists across the globe, with questions like are we the ones causing this increase in temperatures,or other ones like is this a normal process for mother earth. I personally have been affected by this through media hearing about sea levels rising because of sea ice melting. Scientists studies show that burning fossil fuels in significant amounts causes global warming, increasing sea levels, and a plethora of other things that can damage our society. Experts say if we don't act on it now it can cause a slippery slope starting with global warming. On the other hand many scientists believe that global warming is just a myth. Through their research says that “global warming research” is invalid and misleading. That the earth can absorb these emotions and restore our atmosphere. Researchers continue to say the real reason is primarily due to alterations in the sun's heat and ocean currents. Either way if we want to prevent the negative effects of climate change there is a couple of solutions we could do as a united group of people. One way is to use renewable energy rather than fossil fuels. Renewable energy consists of solar, wind, and hydro energy. Along with using new technology for renewable energy we can also apply this to past inventions that we use day to day such as gas cars to electric cars. By using Geoengineering we could take part in another, more radical , approach. This process consists of of spraying a mixture of chemicals in the air  to reflect more sunlight back into space rather than absorbing it. With many contradictions on the subject, I believe it would be best to implement each ideas into society. To solve the problem at hand and to preserve our culture our culture as we know it
