Following the shocking news of 𝙿𝚜𝚢𝚌𝚑𝚎’s existence, the proceedings in the After rapidly begin to change as a myriad grymm join in on the hunt. However, even with thousands of eyes on the search, the aberration has been difficult to to pin down. The flock has now collectively turned its gaze towards თბილისი, საქართველო (Tbilisi, Georgia) after evidence of a credible sighting has made its way back to the D.O.A.A. Due to the validity of the information, all grymm who have enlisted in 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙼𝚊𝚐𝚒𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚎’s challenge are to report to Tbilisi as soon as possible.

𒀭  ─── STORY BEAT — 𝐶𝐻𝐴𝑃𝑇𝐸𝑅 𝑂𝑁𝐸: 𝐹𝐿𝐸𝑊 𝑇𝐻𝐸 𝐶𝑂𝑂𝑃

Basking on the last vestiges of the golden hour, the Kura River shimmers, gilded in copper as light glitters off rippling waves. A troupe of demoiselle cranes glide across the surface of the water; delicate necks feathered in black plumes dip low as they bounce up and down, their large, silvery wings open wide and curled inward, pairs of birds fully engaged in their primigenial dance. At the shoreline, throngs of tourists huddle together, their cellphones raised, and their jaws dropped in rapt attention as the locals walk on by, the spectacle a common sight on the Mtkvari. However, all the living souls present are oblivious to the circus going on overhead as colorful cacophony blots out the amber sky. Wings of every shape and size circle in the sunset sky as a handful of grymm land among the color roofs while others fly on by after shooting a cursory glance at Tbilisi’s population. Though the memo from the Department of Afterlife Affairs had been marked as urgent, the majority of 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙼𝚊𝚐𝚒𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚎’s grymm seem to be unconvinced that 𝙿𝚜𝚢𝚌𝚑𝚎 is still in the area. The mood among those who stand guard in Tbilisi is apparent in the miserable. Slouched lines of shoulders and grim expressions. And though the passage of time is near insignificant for grymm, the futility of the hunt thus far has been a major hit to morale. The lack of success has not been for lack of trying. If anything, the D.O.A.A. is currently working in double-time as potential sightings of 𝙿𝚜𝚢𝚌𝚑𝚎 have been frequent, the aberration somehow managing to evade every single grymm who claims to have seen her. Due to this unprecedented anomaly, there has been dissent among the ranks, with some grymm turning spiteful towards any flock mates who report a sighting, accusations of subterfuge and false reports dripping like venom behind gritted teeth. Caught up in the center of the frenzy, the Collections Office, is almost constantly near max capacity, with bodies constantly coming and leaving through their personal signature doors. The lobby has become a madcap rush to the desks, as any grymm who spots 𝙿𝚜𝚢𝚌𝚑𝚎 and cannot apprehend the soul must report the location; and anyone on serious about the hunt for 𝙿𝚜𝚢𝚌𝚑𝚎 know that the clerks are the first to receive any notices from spectral messengers. In order to fill in the gap left by the grymm currently hunting 𝙿𝚜𝚢𝚌𝚑𝚎, the rate of Lustrations has also reached a fever pitch. And though 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙼𝚊𝚐𝚒𝚜𝚝𝚛𝚊𝚝𝚎’s intent may be benevolent, the stampede of new bodies in the Assignment Lobby has only increased the workload of the clerks assigned to the sector. The meager group of about a hundred grymm entrusted with the monumental task of supporting the entity of the D.O.A.A. And though under normal conditions, grymm should not feel fatigue of any kind, quota breaks have not been enforced. In the Before as well as in the After, a snowball is slowly gathering mass atop the highest peak on Earth. Back in the sun-kissed ground of Tbilisi, a figure clad in a dark hooded jacket stands at the feet of ქართვლის დედა, Kartlis Deda (Mother of Kartvel). Their head tilted skyward towards the face of the Mother. Lifting their right hand, the individual aims their cellphone up, and the mechanical click of the camera is heard. Shifting her gaze back to the phone’s screen, the soul, known as 𝙿𝚜𝚢𝚌𝚑𝚎, lets out a sigh as she gazes down at the image she captured. Shaking her head, 𝙿𝚜𝚢𝚌𝚑𝚎 turns her back to the Mother only to shift back to sit heavily on the bench at the base of the statue. She pulls up her photo gallery and slowly scrolls through a series of blurry shots of roof tops and seemingly random, extremely zoomed in shots of the sky. Leaning further back on her seat, 𝙿𝚜𝚢𝚌𝚑𝚎 lifts her phone again to take a picture of the skyline, the elevation on the top of Sololaki Hill, allowing her to get a wide shot of the capital. Her gaze flicks back and forth from the phones screen to the sky in front of her, dark eyes trailing unseen movement in the heavens as the sun continues its slow descent towards the horizon.

And so, it comes as no surprise that the giddiness of first love is as effervescent as the spumante carbonation of champagne leaving intoxicating barely perceptible kisses upon flushed faces. In life, Pinar had long given up on ever finding love—her perception of romance forever marred by the bitter divorce of her parents—but life, or rather the afterlife, has a funny way of working out. But like many that have come before her, she is unwilling to give up this blossoming romance now that she has finally found it.
